I have an accelero S1 passive cooler on my card with a 12cm Cooling SWiF2 (hydro-dynamic bearing) fan on the top. The card is silent in 2D modes, and about 10-12db when it's fully loaded (FurMark) (I use Speedfan to automatically set the speed for all of the fans in my PC, inc the PSU).

I really like the fact that my PC is complettely silent when I'm in 2D mode, but since I use headphones when I'm playing, the noise under load is not that important. Tbh, I could have saved some money with leaving the stock cooler on my VGA and set the speed for it in 2D mode.

My advice is that if you use headphones, you shouldn't worry about how much DB your card makes under load, save your money on that.
If you buy a card what's too loud in 2D mode, just download MSI-Afterburner and set the speed of the fan to a lower value in the 2D modes.

Yeah the accelero s1 is a great mod, I had one on a 8800 with an Akasa Amber fan on it

buy you need sli/xfire for most games, and you a limited to dual only unless you use water cooling, then you have to choose your motherboard with extra cares, because you have no pcie slots to use your own choice of hardware
