FPS problem?! With 120zh samsung tft (16 comments)

I'm getting an occasional jittering on my monitor screen when I play quake. It appears every 2 or 3 seconds for about a second. Its annoying as hell, it goes from solid smooth to laggy jittery for every few seconds. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running samsung 2233rz at 120hz res 800X600 4:3 ratio (black lines down the sides). Graphics cards an ATI 4600.
I've recently added an external usb sound card, could this have something to do with the problem? Also, I noticed when i play high quality youtube vids (HD) they run at a terribley low frame rate as well despite my internet connection being well over capable of streaming the clips. Any help much appreciated.

I use an abyssus with the switch at 1000hz. I used to use a 1.1a with the usb hack though. Maybe it's still active. Is this the problem?

try using 100hz for 640x480 800x600 1024x768, and 120hz for widescreen stuff, test it dude :D update gpu drivers etc

I've just set cg_drawfps 1 and it's actualy my frames per second that's dropping. I updated the graphics card drivers recently to accomodate my new 2233rz samsung screen. I have the screen on max res for windows at 120hz, maybe I should drop the res and/or graphics settings? My computer isnt the latest thing out but I thought it would hammer the Quake engine easily.... I remember my older computers making 3-4-500FPS average in time demos of quake.

DO you use Dvi cable or standard VGA cable.
If so you will have problems as 120hz needs more data to pass. A quality DVI cable will prob solve your problem.

2nd Install new gfx card drivers. If you install something new uninstall it and check again and reinstall new one.

3rd Mouse hzs as above someone said.

4th Nvidia > Ati :P

check your fans, check temperature, check ati card temps and if everything is fine get a antivirus with adware spyware removal because you got worms on your pc =p

the problem is ati drivers. one thing that helped fix it for me was to unlock and then disable overdrive.

I've done this and also dropped the windows res (not sure if this will make any difference?) and it seems to have cured the quakelive jittering. The graphics card temp is at 40-41 degrees.
Tried to run a HD youtube clip and it still runs at very poorly. It downloads perfectly fine/streams more quickly than it plays but appears to run at very low FPS :/

One thing I will mention is that I never had this problem with my old 24inch Sony CRT monitor. I ran that with exectly the same settings apart from r_displayrefresh 160 and windows res was alot lower. I'm running max res in windows because I was told I had to to achieve 120hz. Then Quake at either 640 X 480 or 800 X 600 depending (at 120hz).
