The last time Gamebattles ran a QL tournament with PRIZES (but it had an entrance fee), everyone whined like babies and the tournament was cancelled.

I hope people are a bit more open next time.

Just trying to see how people feel about MLG and Gamebattles.com for QL competition.

I know people who work for MLG, and I'd love to see QL in MLG. As of right now, ESL is one of the only places I know of that has ladders, and the website isn't near as good as Gamebattles is.

I know this esreality, and I know where QL forums are. To say this website is for...other things is immature. This is the QL section of esreality, so I figured this is the appropriate place to post this.

If you are not interested, then fine, no one is forcing you to.

Of course we are interested, the QL community has been pushing for competitive ladders since forever.

Surely the lackey that sent you here must have mentioned the general attitude of ESR and that you really wont get any productive responses unless the thread is about map pools, mice, or coolleR.

Frankly I've heard more than enough about MLG dancing around with QL for me to stop caring altogether, either pick it up or don't. Yes you would have the community's support, yes people are interested. What else did you need again?

The real issue is getting people to participate in the free ladder at Gamebattles.com.

If they brought one back, would people actually participate in it? I know QL community doesn't actively post a lot or visit MLG/GB, but in the hypothetical sense that MLG/GB had a free ladder with potential cash tournaments, would there be a community to back it up?

I doubt anyone "sent" him. According to his post, he's just "a member at the Major League Gaming forums" - kinda like he's a member of the ESR gaming forums.

ESReality is a bit of an anarchy but it has it's charms. Which is why I visit this over QuakeLive forums.

ESR - fun trolling playing around with each other with great info on events and interviews
QLforums - People asskissing moderators and general stupidity.

I will say though that MLG has Starcraft 2 on their game roster right? The IEM5 Kiev Quake games were very well received on Teamliquid.net so I'm sure there would be support from people that don't just watch Quake. Either way, QL would easily fit into MLG's format and hey, if you were to do QuakeLive and Starcraft 2 events at the same time, you'd have the added benefit of saving money on shoutcasters by getting the awesome DJ Wheat to do both games (okay, maybe not saving money, but it'd still be awesome)

There'd be more if there was more money. CPM was always a better gameplay just never had the money like QW/Q2/Q3/Q4 had.

not sure if ladder is the right format btw, cant remember any quake 3 / ql ladder in any league that was both active and competitive

A league like the german one. Cups to determine approximately the skill level of each player and to get a spot in the highest league. I don't think that a ladder would work.

premiere league (pros like dahang, czm, zero4, rapha etc.)
with lan finals

2nd league maybe splitted in conferences I don't really know much about your routings/pings.

3rd league and so on

Stream every week a few games ( also from the lower divs), get decent casters and a small prize for the lower div players.
But as I don't have any clue about the american market I just can guess what might work.

well its a really tough choice tbh cause there are so many factors that should be thought of. what kind of palyers do you want to target (pro, competitive, casual, ...), what kind of audience/coverage do you want (none, regular streams, ...) how many signups you expect/get (16, 256, ...), prices, ....

personally im a huge fan of the system used by the esl for the german speaking league "bundesliga"
you have different divisions with ~12 players each (in the actual league its something like #1, #2, #3a #3b, #4a #4b #4c #4d. first two divisions have prices and require ql prem. below that you can also participate without prem), one match per week. a new season every ~3 month and in between you have some kind of relegation so people can advance/drop to higher/lower divisions
