im trying to connect to this server (the jex server for those of you who know it) but it says i need to download like 3.36 mb to connect. so i start the d/l and it says something like 0.00 kb / 23.70 mb. wtf? anyways i let it d/l to the end and it finally says pak is corrupted. I look in the console and it says:

whats weird is i've downloaded that (from the link) and replaced it in my q4base folder. But it still wants me to download the thing from the server. I really dont know if what i need is 23 mb or 3.
I guess its not that big a deal but i ping really well to that server and its in my time zone. Anyone know what to do?

oh and i dont know if you will be able to comment this.. soo.. just send me a message or something idk

Yeah, I've had this problem before as well. It's because the author of the maps unfortunately released two different versions (beta1 and beta2) under the same name. As you may realize, this may cause issues trying to sync the correct map with the one that the server uses. Really, the fault lies as much in the hands of the author as with the server admin for keeping this problematic map.

I think there's actually like three different versions (2 with the same name, one different) of the map out there. To fix the problem, I would place only one version of the map in your q4base folder at a time, until you get the right one and are able to connect.

Let me know if it doesn't work =P

There are multiple versions of the file map_tj_h0m3.pk4 floating around. It appears that perhaps the version that is at the URL and the version on the server are different - or at least, the version that you have doesnt match the one on the server.

MO, people should remove this map from servers due to this problem.

Grab all the versions you find, and give them different names in your baseq4 folder (like, map_something_a.pk4, map_something_b.pk4 and so on).

That part in bold is the checksum.

When Q4 checks which files you have, it doesn't care much about their names, only the checksums (in short, a little code which is unique to a file) to ensure a file with a given name hasn't been modified.
If you have a file with seemingly the right name, but the wrong checksum, you will not have what it wants.
If it turns out you are missing a file with a particular checksum, the server will ask you to download it - but then it'll tell you the name it knows for it.
For all we care, it could be called map_IcanHasCheezBurger.pk4 and still be that tj home map with the checksum 0x17fb703a.

Once you've got several versions, you can find out which have the same checksums and remove the *real* duplicates ;)

someone should tell the admin of this server that his map download redirection is fucked up ; he should trash out this version of tjhome from his server if he wants more players on it

that's not the problem, and autodownload is on on this server

there are 2 versions of this map with same name but different checksums (see hemosaek's post)
nobody can enter this server without already having the good version of this map, cause autodownload makes you download the other version

I guess he means builtin http download, where it'll download it directly from the gam server. That'd cause other issues tho, so better is for them to reconfigure the autodl to download the same version as is on the server ;)

Better yet, ditch the map.

I didn't think of that indeed ; can you command client-side to bypass autodownload on the redirected ftp and instead download directly from the game server (unfortunately at a slow speed e.g. something like 10KB/s I guess) ?

net_serverDownload 3 (in q4 1.4.x) enables a builtin http server hosted by q4 itself which will always have the right versions of the files, and doesnt require any extra configuration of a separate http server. This transfers at full speed (with server cvars to cap the bw usage if required).

Unfortunately this is a bit buggy - whenever I've enabled it on the fragstore server, we get a crash approx every 24 hours with it enabled.

idd, thats not the correct solution.

But if you have a wrong versoin map.
Can't you just delete it, And download trough autodownload the correct one? (If the place where the map comes from is atleast synced with the server)
