Check out that you DONT have in your autoexec or/and .cfg
seta g_skipViewEffects "1"
seta g_skipFX "1"
Those cvars should be "0" and are locked on servers.. so there is no idea to have them setted on "1"

Hah. it's "unlagged" to a certain extent. if you aim dead on with rail with as much as 80ping it still hits, unlike q3 where you'd most likely miss by a mile.
I don't feel like going any more in depth than that right now, kind of drinking cider atm.

you have no idea what you're babbling about, q4 HPB is worse than q3. although q3 netcode sucked too. Only in Quake2 was 50-90 ping OK.

well, its just lag compensation code, the server keeps a snapshot of the gamestate for each server tick, like a history buffer sort of thing, when it gets a shoot command from the client, it looks at the clients ping and then checks the gamestate from the snapshot that was taken at <now>-<client ping> millseconds ago to see if you hit anything, so it looks back in time.

so you can get rid of the ping/lag problem but your right in that you can't hide it completey - you can get weird side effects like being shot after you have ducked for cover

this is more noticeable in CSS, ive not played Q4 much recently but I suspect the fact that CSS is all hitscan means that the side effects are more noticeable than in a game with projectile weapons like Q4

it was vs spook/bloodshot vs fox/gopher. fox/gopher pinged roughly 125 throughout the game (vs 35 pings) which finished 47-26, ic winning.

though i wonder how a 2v2 team involving czm/chance/cl0ck at the time would have fared against a comparably mediocre EU team on an EU server.

If Cooller really wouldn't care about online games, then why did he agree to play in the EC in the first place? And what's with the swedish server when he knows that Ztrider would outping him easily? And why whine after the 2nd map about ping when he already lost the 1st one?

Ztrider was the better player that day, if Cooller can't accept that maybe he should stop playing Q4 and go back to Kindergarden and learn the basics of human interaction in the world he lives in.

It a nice pshyche-out towards ztrider, cooller is very strong in that sense. Making your "expected" lan match "bigger" than it is, puts more pressure on the the opponent -- they both know this. And although he might have been a bit angry, i think coollers main purpose was to pshyche-out ztrider; he might even have done it automaticly ;)

On a sidenote I also loved how Z4muZ handled the freezelag-situation vs cooller in the "NOT MY TROUBLE" game, despite how the comment was perceived (or meant, which we'll never know). No whine in-game, no whine on ESR in demo comments.

Very nice to see there are players like this and they deserve all respect.

it would be like if u go to a fair ground and theres one of those contests where u kick the ball through the hole. you could slip and hit the ball on accident and they would most likely let you take it again, you wouldnt expect them to say 'not my trouble' and not let you retake it

if it was just a spike then shouldnt really replay the match from a time coz then you lose whatever weapons/armour you had but you dont have to reply in game and not something as gay as 'not my trouble'

I think Cooller can't stand losing against players when he knows it is just a ping question. He wants to make sure they realize that it is just not a real win. Fox managed to beat cooller with 30-5 or so on ztn online in a tournament once, and after that game fox actually tried saying that maybe it wasn't just ping...
Jamerio stated that cooller knew that this was over the internet, but that is a terrible approach: this is not a question of internet but a question of swedish server. Ztrider pings 0-6 and cooller 40-65. Against such a good player, that is just not possible. Ztrider is really good, but saying he outplayed him and that it is not ping when playing this game with 0 vs 50 ping on this very high level is about as smart of Jamerio as the assumption that fox maybe was better than cooller on ztn after that online blowout.

The big question is this, and it is open for debate: why would cooller play under these circumstances in a Clanbase 1v1 Eurocup that involves pretty good money? They could, and SHOULD play on a moscow server equally. With cooller playing on a swedish server against a very good swedish player, he basically gives the game away as a present before it is even played, so for some reason he is probably not caring about winning it, even if he needs to make clear that the win isn't deserved.

Why is he not making swedes play in Moscow? It would be ping 50 vs 5 there as well, and those would be serious smackdowns of another sort than when he plays in Sweden.
Is Cooller not really wanting to win these EC games? I find that strange as there is a rather big prizepool.

He picked the server, knowing he was giving up ping advantage and didnt look like he was playing safe/campy/to win, but just playing. Maybe he wants an excuse to lose online? Isn't it obvious Cooller underestimated the consequences of his ping handicap? He probably should ensure he has a stable ping to the server before agreeing to the conditions.

You people whining about his comments appear to be ignoring the fact that Cooller tried his best regardless of the ping handicap and he was quite often playing very close to Ztrider's level of play.

I suspected he would eventually vent his frustration about the playing conditions regardless that he put himself in that position but no he's not allowed to do that according to some of you on here.

He whined and now some of you whiners feel the need to start a hate campaign. Pfffft! :)

This all started with the ping-whine incidents against Toxic, it was however amusing watching Toxic beat down cooller on dm6 @ eswc ;).

I always liked Coollers play style, but yes there is a point where arrogance does get old. However, online games are frustrating, and if you have never played important games on a bad conn you can't really imagine it. But as it's been said, he did realise this so it's quite silly really.

Oh yeah and the whole point is this: There's a tourney of which most is online, and that's the way it is. And then someone really good like cooller loses because of ping, says [random cooller pingwhine here] and all of a sudden the whole tournament is worth fuck all and it's useless (except prize-wise) to win it. He just needs to separate online tourneys from LAN ones, not talk about the latter when unsuccessful in the first (stuff that people already know but he still says all the time, insecure?).

THOUGH! I do agree with that the servers should be as fair as possible, preferrably no advantage to anyone and if it has to be unfair pings then it has to be played over multiple servers. I myself absolutely despise the rest of my countrymen for, and I would do the exact quote here but I don't find it so I'll give the bottomline; "I don't play with ping >15". Example...

[00:13:02] [LPB] jag har 11-40 ping
[00:13:05] [LPB] LIKSOM HEJ

Can only say that my normal ping is shit then and the best ping I've ever experienced on any server is about twice as high as what he pings lowest on the server that "sucks". I got a good connection but simply live so far away so 40 vs 0 ping is absolute standard, and the only lower is the one server I'll have 20 vs 0.

So, uhm... The world needs Q4 servers at more different locations and perhaps also both better. And rules for fair ping play.

THOSE ARE QUAKE 3 SERVERS.
The admin of those asked me "does anyone even play on them?" and i told him that the pings go from 10 to 40 ALL THE TIME. In quake 3 that is TOTALLY unacceptable. if it was 40 all the time then OK, it can be playable if you are from south africa, but when THE REST of the servers are 7-14, it is NOT.

So, in conclusion; FUCK YOU.

Yes, those were Q3 servers but as it's the same thing now being Q4 servers I'd assume it's the same. Also that's all you said so it was kind of hard to know it was swinging so bad it was unplayable; normally I'd rather have pings ranging from 11 to 40 instead of 40 only but hey what do I know, I apparently live in South Africa ;)

The other quote about not playing with pings above 15 was not even you or you solely, it was to show some swedes refuse to play players from other countries if they have to leave their <15 ping area which is a bit depressing. Understandable that people want as good ping as possible of course, but so do the opponents and it'd be quite boring if people from different countries didn't play eachother at all :)

I am sorry for having your name in the quote as it appears you weren't too happy about that, and wish you'd have imsg'ed or pm'ed me asking for an edit which I'd gladly have done before coming to that harsh conclusion :) I reckon it'd be better people playing the same game try to "stick together" instead of randomly bashing eachother, not least because it'd be more fun if we conversate on IRC, meet in a tourney later or even at lan :)

However, in retrospect it appears that most only fought because if they had refused, Stalin would have them too executed. But hey, since red army eventually got to raid Berlin, it's nothing but natural that they write in their own history books to their kids and say that they were fighting for freedom, and happily forget about the fact that Stalin had a grand master plan with Hitler to divide the whole Europe, and thus make it pretty much the exact opposite of "freedom".

I don't know if he only takes online games (and smaller russian tournaments) as a practice for new strategies or to train regaining control without letting others adapting to his playstyle.

Many people were surprised to see his real level at CPL winter.

Why is everybody overlooking the obvious point? Cooller's connection is not that bad, it is the fact that he plays against swedish players on swedish servers that creates this situation. That is basically giving away the game before it has started, because a match with 50 ping against 0-5 is really like a boxing match where one boxer only can use one hand.

Why doesn't Cooller insist on playing on a Moscow server where the ping situation is reversed? Why does he "give" away the games against good swedes online by playing them on swedish servers?
It's a question only Cooller himself can answer.

I'll say only one thing... Cooler can whine about his ping, people can whine about sweden connections... I used to play with 50/70ms on .euro like #q4pickup servers and i rape a lot... So don't whine so much about ping, it's a lot psychological... I agree that it's completely different on LAN but remember good player like St Germain, he always use to play with 60ms so stfu :(

Like VoO says you can't compare it. With high ping in Q4 your movement starts to get fucked, you suddenly fall down in mid air and precise and smooth movement becomes impossible. Obviously your aim turns to crap as well, especially against close up opponents who know how to strafe. It's as bad as the CS netcode if not worse.

Didn't you whiners see how difficult it was for Cooller to play even remotely up to his standards whereas it was oh so simple for Ztrider?

Maybe Cooller set himself up by agreeing to the lag conditions but regardless of that why shouldn't he be allowed to whine when games end like they did in this match?

Do some of you hate it when a player whines after a loss because you see the whine as a personal insult or is the hate a means of defending the whiners opponent because his accomplishment is seemingly nullified in your eyes?

How about his ADSL connect is crap and his "best" ping is on swedish servers but that "best" ping is absolutely dire because it is an "unstable" ping. You can occasionally see the "unstable ping" in his demos.

What can Cooller do about it when he has to play uber-lpb Ztrider?

Suffer it while also reminding himself and occasionally others that on LAN it's a very different story?

It's probably a fact that owning someone who has a crap ping is a very enjoyable experience and also it's probably a fact that being owned by a uber-lpb while playing on a crap ping is a very frustrating experience! :D

It's just so pointless of a player of his level to act like that every time, every player already knows what he's done on lan but it's not and like you mentioned earlier, thus nobody cares :) It's like he can't decide wether he wants to separate lan and online or not, in one moment he signs up to an online cup fully knowing all it means, agrees on server with Ztrider carefully making sure it's alright - and in the other (when losing) online games don't mean anything and he starts talking lan. He wants to eat the cake but also keep it.

Bottom line, I'd say "both sides" are right, it's horrible conditions for cooller but also his choise to participate and not his opponents trouble ( ;) ), so in the end I just think it'd be more morally right if cooller acted big by accepting defeat while everyone can see the circumstances themselves and already know what he can do on lan, and don't try to take anything away from the victory Ztrider didn't exactly get all for free anyway and not talk like that to him when Ztrider can't help the situation. And also (big plus) isn't trying to get every possible advantage but atleast makes sure it's ok for cooller, which it was until he lost.

The problem is that his "best" server would be a local server and even then it's probably crap for him too but no doubt much more playable compared to a non-local server yet noone gives a fuck about that because they aren't clued up about it or even if they are they don't care because the scoreboard pings are what most players look at for fairness but anyone that knows a bit about it will admit the scoreboard ping is a worthless measurement when it comes to an unstable ping.

I probably should have broken that up into sentences but I won't! :)

I'll try to translate. Lamur suggests:

swedish ping 30 is better than russian ping 30
swedish ping 50 is better than russian ping 30 (I'm guessing he typo'd)
swedish ping <= 80 would be good enough for a russian player to own all players
russian ping 30 is not good enough for russian players to own all players

You can find evidence of the above by looking at russian player pings in online tournaments over the past 5 years

I suspect Lamur is telling it like it is but noone cares so he probably wasted his time.

russians real ping is 10 but randomly spiking up to 100 resulting in an average of 30 (most games average the ping over a number of frames so we don't know how big the spikes are by looking at the scoreboard ping)

swedish real ping of 80 spiking to errr 80 and averaging 80

Which is better? :)

We can even take it a bit further:

Someone mentioned they saw Cooller's ping at ~40 and someone else mentioned they saw it at ~65.

Now lets also assume he's quite close to sweden (ping wise) his minimum real ping to the swedish server is probably somewhere around 25.

With a minimum real ping of 25 showing as high as 65 on the Q4 scoreboard we are looking at a spiking range way beyond 100 so I'll hazard a guess at around 200.

So hypothetically speaking we probably saw Cooller playing on a ping randomly spiking from 25ms to 200ms and we saw Ztrider probably playing on a rock solid stable ping of around 3ms or perhaps as high as around 10ms.

Now consider the above is reasonably accurate and also consider how well Cooller managed to play on his favourite map under those circumstances and you'll have some idea of how much of a handicap he was suffering on his "best" non-local server.

Also try to imagine just how much effort would be required to even remotely compete with Ztrider under such circumstances.

Well my ping on like any server(uk/nl etc) is anything between like 0-150 and changes like every second. Whereas in Q3 on the "same" servers I would get 20-30 pretty constant.

Just a small note: As you're talking about the past 5 years you're probably refering to Q3, where in the past few years people started to play with maxpackets 125 instead of 60. Even with 60 it's not really accurate, but with mp 125 the scoreboard (and that's everything you can see as spectator/on screenshots) only shows a few funny numbers which more or less have jack shit to do with the real ping the playes have. The difference between scoreboard ping and real ping can be anywhere between 0-60ms, maybe even more.

Well they probably like the fact that he wins the LAN tournaments which are the ones that really matter. He also did a fine job and nice interviews at the last big LAN event....doubt the sponsors give a toss about online as its costing them nothing.

I also dont think cooller would have any trouble finding another sponsor, being as he is arguably the best q4 player around currently, and most likely will remain that way.

Wish people would give the guy a break. If he tried to get the match played on a ru server he would be crucified for trying to take advantage of unfair pings. He's cursed by being born in country with shit connectivity.

Ppl need to understand the russian people (and any other country) talk and express themselves is subtly different from native english speakers. its not his talks that people are on about, and not even the whining. because that, is actually fun to see and it expands the game way beyong the match itself due to rivalries. The people here are on about the leaving ingame. And yes indeed, it makes the organisors of tournaments look foolish, and the sponsors too.

imo there should be some rules made about this on cpl, cb etc. but on the other hand, those value's should just come from being raised.

There is a rule at the CPL. Also people will be less likely to leave when you can't hold your spawns for more than 2 seconds, and in Q4 you have to wait 3 seconds before you can even spawn. There needs to be some incentive to actually play on.

Well there is a rule (Mainly because people like LeXeR kept callvoting maps after 5minutes or something :D). You may have noticed that he tried to get up and walk away but he was told to keep playing.

exactly :) that was the moment i was talking about, and im stunned a player can mock the organisation of the CPL who just made him ~10.000$ richer aswell as his clan which he represents like that by not having the decency to play for 2 more minutes to give the people a show.

It is because the Q3 community etc are all used to being able to do that. Before CPL Summer (I think) a lot of the PK players would callvote/quit before the match was over and it happened in Q3 too (And probably in UT). Just a bad habit.

well i guess it hurts less when it happens behind the scenes and away from the camera's and coverage. And thats how players got used to it. If nobody knows it wont matter much either. But when you are on that stage/in that final you know its more than a match, its supposed to be a show for a lot more people than the 2 people actually playing :)
and the players should keep that in mind. They are ofcourse playing for themselves and the moneyprize, but also for the show, the community the spectators and the sponsors.

i think it should never happen either way, said it before, want to be a pro-gamer then act proffesional :)

People talk about cooller's sportmanship, but what about Ztrider? He proposed a Swedish server and cooller accepted yes, but didn't he realise that almost 0 ping against 50+ isn't fair? Not that he must propose another one, but that's not very sportmanship like either, is it?

it means you have a good connection, right? ;x wp ztrider but i did see a lot of fights where cooller would miss a long shaft streak that you normally don't see pro players miss. i wish i could ping under 30 to servers here in the states. even to servers in my city i ping ~30. can't wait to nothink on the lan.

Gl and gg have their place. As one person put it, "It's like bowing in karate.". But people and personalities like cooller also have their place. And as far as i'm concerned, the more players who have interesting, diverse personalities, the better. I have no interest in watching nazi's, or robots, fight. Nazi's and robots can be programmed to have blonde hair and blue eyes and only say gg and gl. But personally, I prefer diversity.

One of the things that I've always liked about Cooler is that when he talks shit for the most part he always backs up his claims. That's what seperates him from most of the shittalkers/bad manner lamers.

That and his playing style is really fun to watch.
