i think it's a mix between honesty and trollblood.

How about two people who purposely take so much piss that people like yourself write columns about them and they gain a sense of worth by knowing that they are in your thought values and they get a reaction out of most people.
Even if your thoughts of them are negative, to them I suspect it's better than nothing.

It's much like the jackass and viva la bam crew, who largely suffer from ADD.
So what seems like a negative perception to you and i (i.e. this guys a jackass) is actually a good thing for them.
