although the irony in "global" gaming league suggested otherwise, we weren't that bothered about the usa server (we signed up to the league knowing it was usa tourne) and started the game at normal time. 8 mins in, the server crashed, the score something like 35-25 to ds. with 2 of our guys getting up for 6:00 in the morning (it was about 12:20 by now) we were understandably a bit miffed as we had to restart the map.

it turned out that nyc was going to remain "crashed" and we were given the choice of servers; wdc or chi (pings for leto now became around 130 130 140 190). ontop of this we weren't allowed a reschedule either so we just decided to call it a day and let them take default, it was obvious who would win and our guys wanted to go to bed :E

You know, it really isn't that difficult to simply read the rules before signing up for a given ladder or league or tournament, and it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to then assume that said rules will be enforced throughout, so to go on and bitch about it when the above happens is pretty silly, no?

1) Its suppose to be a Global league, yet the rules are obviously usa biased, sure these are the rules but these are bullshit rules, gives the USA teams a HUGE advantage.

2) The team new about this, they signed up, went to the server, and started playing, the server was fucking up, and they all had to be up 6am which was under 6 hrs away, so they needed to go to bed, also the alterntive server was UNplayable pings for leto.
So what do you do? most fair people would let the game be played the next day, but nah Dickhead DonKing had to force the game

I've said it before and ill say it again, GGL is going to recieve a reputation from the Euros theyll never be able to rid

The solution to cross atlantic games:

1) Icelandic fast servers usually serve equal playable pings to both teams. Or around this region

2) 1 map USA server, 1 map Euro server, 3rd map (if it comes to this), is randomly chose between the 2:
1 - USA server
2 - Euro server
/callvote random 2


For a _Global_ league id see those methods alot more fairer then all on USA servers


Then we come to the 2nd problem, the timezone changes.
This is always going to be a problem, unless played on weekends/holidays.
But if a Euro team (leto) agree to play 12am their time, when they got to be up at 6am for work, then i think when the server starts crashing and it raches almost 1am and sitll no game, that itd be fair to let them perspone a match to another date.

Letting something like a ~70ms ping advantage be decided by the flip of a coin is hardly a valid solution.

The tone in which you guys are posting implies that there is some sort of conspiracy to make sure European teams aren't given a fair shot at winning.

The GGL is USA based, that's where their servers are. I'm sure they are perfectly aware of the fact that their presence is less than 'Global'.

I can also understand why it's frustrating for Europeans. I'd be frustrated too. Everyone knows that a lot of the matchups would be a lot different if the Europeans were given equal pings. No one is denying that. But, there really isn't an end all be all solution to the problem. What I don't understand is why complaints about rules that have been posted for months are not being made until all the European teams are out of contention.

DK is an admin who holds to his convictions and follows the rules that are laid out. Making special exceptions for teams is a very quick way to lose any authority you hold over the teams in the league. He doesn't fuck around, and makes sure the competitors don't either. You may not always agree with his decisions but he sticks to his guns.

I just don't think it's fair to trash talk the league. That's the point I'm trying to make.

1) do they want to make american leagues, which will let euros particapate.

2) A Global league, we're all nations can participate in.

The issue here is one of expectations. The difference between the nobles game and the leto one is that nobles fully understood the terms of the league. We were prepared for an unfair game and weren't particularly bothered when we lost.

There is no fair solution for East US vs EU games. Iceland may be geographically middle ground, but IP routing makes geography irrelevant for alot of ISPs. 1 game each side just promotes "rape as hard as you can on home server to get the third map" which is just as farcical.

If the GGL is to become truely global, it would need divisions around the world, perhaps something like a partnership with Clanbase for instance.

It's tough when these decisions go against you, but in a tourney as wide as this, it takes a hard admin like DK to make sure it doesn't run on forever / fail to complete. This was already the latest round 1 game to start, round 2 games are waiting for the outcome, it was the right decision imo. Hard but necessary.

if they forfeited shouldnt it be a draw with money refunded? they didnt lose. per say. the server crashed and they jsut forfeited the 2 maps.

As aggnog and others stated, he knew the match was to be played on a USA server, I agree the pings werent fair but it was decided at the beginning of the ladder that matches were to be played on USA servers and I decided to keep that rule for the playoffs. Gamecloud NYC crashed with 12 minutes remaining and I messaged citizen, he answered 30 seconds later and got the server back up, it crashed again and it was restarted yet again, this lasted no more than 10 minutes. At this point aggnog says one of his members no longer wishes to play and the other must goto sleep and requested the match to be rescheduled, I said no simply because this match not only took a week to get played because of the timezone differences plus this whole server crashing deal only set us back maybe 20 minutes from crash to finding a new server, he said that they would go ahead and forfeit then.

I would never force an EU team to play at CHI, WDC was a possibility and if we had needed another server I would have asked aggnog if WDC were ok, if not, we would have found a something else. I would expect aggnog to agree that the above is true.

I suggest that European Teams join Clanbase so that pings are not as much an issue.

Perhaps GGL could offer an extra life system.
Where each clan/team that enters has one EXTRA LIFE/CHANCE to reschedule a match. Only if both teams agree.
That way the league should still be able to complete all their games and teams will have a lifeline which does not sink GGL's schedule and their faith in GGL.

I have stayed awake for well over 24 hours to play an INTERNET GAME even WITH WORK the next day.
It's not ideal but you grit your teeth and make the most of it.

GGL will prob offer usa/euro/au/jap etc leagues you either play in your local league or play in another continents league but you play on that continents servers
