Hows this compare to Annihilation, Badge 2/3 and the more recent Lyon Connection?

Blows Lyon out of the water, superior editing, superior frags, superior mood.

It has as clean editing as Badge 3, but with more of the type of content that AnnihilatioN offers. Personally, I found it to be just as good as AnnihilatioN, but with updated quality and some extreme syncing at some parts.

The tricking part at the end is very Badge-y and could have been dropped if you ask me, but rounds off the movie quite nicely.

Excellent all around, slots into my top 10 movies of all time, and judging from the number of 10's it's got on own-age, a lot of other peoples' lists as well. =)

Imho the content isn't that 'superior' to Lyon Connection.
It's at least 50% of average frag.
Btw the editing and quality are awesome, and the sync is perfect.

Totally agree with your comment. The middle part of the movie with "we will rock you" and the 100% synched railshots was brilliant. Lyon also didn't work on any of the 3 players i tried (not mplayer) and this one played flawless. you don't need 45 fps to make a great movie. i enjoyed this alot and that comes from someone who usually complains and nitpicks about everything :)

A very good movie. Some intense frag action in it :D And no overuse of effects. Just as much as is needed to get the message across. The intro (after the Vecchi logo, sorry) is very very nice :) Reminds me of the Quake 3 Rulezz 2 intro which also kicks ass. IMO it rivals Annihilation in being a good fragmovie :)

Although unknown, many players in that movie are greatly skilled.

As one may have already noticed, some (most) frags aren't that high-skilled and are just average good frags. That's because the main purpose of this video is to gather frags from a larger variety of brazilian players and not gather top-notch frags from few ones.

Vecchi was very kind and worked hard (mostly on his own, some helped a bit, me included, but he did EVERYTHING) to make this video as good as possible covering as many players as possible. The editing is excellent, the sync is perfect, it couldn't be better than this.

Clearly the great stength of this movie lies in the clean and professional looking editing. The special FX are there but Vecchi doesn't overuse them so as to hinder the action of the movie. The final result is a Badge3 looking movie with many camera angles.

What you get is a lot of frags. Most of them, I'd say about 60% are not impressive or 'wow' frags though, it's normal stuff that happens in every game. There is a rail section which is way too simple (for example there's a scene where somebody rails an opponent out of the cpm3a RA room... just that, a single rail).

My first though was that they could keep the trully good frags and make a shorter movie but as the post above me will confirm, they tried to include most of the players from the Brazilian community to whome this movie is a tribute. I'm fine with that.

IMO, this applies to 99% of all movies, be it frag or trickjumping :O

frags and editing is very good, but not as good as in annihilation or the badge.

nevertheless i enjoyed watching this movie more than any other quake3 movie.

The Badge movies aren't fragmovies though ;) so one can't really compare them.

i guess it's already said but i'd just like to add that it was good until the rammstein-part and the quality in-game was utter crap.
otherwise it was kinda cool, that queen-part gave me some goosebumps.

Fantastic editing, music was pretty good, allthough I think I heard all of them before, but it fit good into the movie. Frags were good, but not eye-opening.

Overall an 8 i'd say, keep it up guys, was really fun seeing some brazilian fragging, and I enjoyed the movie alot.

Expected a lot more after reading the comments and lyon connection, badge or annihilation are alot better then this imo.
Lot's of average frags and the editing wasn't anything spectacular or groundbreaking.
Marylin Manson, Ramstein and Queen wth? Doesn't get more cliché than that. To top it off he also stole the clipquake song :(
The syncing wasn't anything hard to do nor was it fun to look at because of the boring rails (might be cause I hate that song though)

The reason I asked for your own movies is because I wanted to see your syncing sound, own music and how well you have pulled it off yourself, after all you claimed it was easy.

since when is syncing sound hard to 'pull off'? how many movies have you done?

I never said it was easy, nor did I say it was hard though it looked as if I did.

I have never finished a movie, mainly due to lack of interest but I have and still mess around with all the typical gaming movie conventions and various 'effects'.

Synching sound to a good extent like in this case is not easy, it may not be an overly difficult task but it is very time consuming and can be of great annoyance. Finding good sync-able music, good movie content and nifty effects that combine the music and footage is no easy task. After all, if it was that easy as a lot claim everyone would be doing it exceptionally well.

Annihilation isn't that good. The frags are not great mostly cheap stuff pulled of on public servers playing q3dm17 vs newbie players and some 'pro frags' thrown it. It really lacks good content, and a lot of the conventions used in the movie are overused and take the feeling right out of it. It was still extremely good and very inspiring when it first came out.

Annihilation was good at first and an awesome break through movie but it just doesn’t have a good re-watch factor.

As a frag movie I believe this tops annihilation, it's clean and fresh and doesn't include loads and loads of air rockets which I am happy about since that's all movies are doing now days. It was good to see loads of clutch shots and the likes again.

The images quality in this is a lot better, one of the best for dvix I have seen (considering most now use xvid thanks to jrb and IT2).

People whining about rail shots should wake up and start whining about constant air rockets in movies. They are just as boring after a while and that's all it has been lately.

It would be better if movies like this wouldn't be classed as frag movies, but in a way be called 'Community Movies'. The author doesn't want to show amazing jaw dropping frags (which is very rare now unless you can somehow showcase tactics in the same way) but rather highlight the Brazilian community and create a good enjoyable movie.

He has done just that.

I love this movie, ranks as one of my all-time top 10. I really don't think content is all there is to a movie: maybe if you're a long-term player of the game, that's all you'll see. What Vecchi has done in this movie is both showcase his community and show his skills as a movie maker, which are considerable.

And although these particular bands have been used before, I don't think I've ever seen these songs used. They just work, no matter what you think of the pieces used. I've watched hundreds of movies with techno music, although I'd never, ever listen to techno outside of a frag movie - all I look for is that it works in the context of the movie.

AnnihilatioN is a great movie, don't get me wrong, and the feeling in it is absolutely fantastic, it's still my top movie ever, but I think this movie comes very close to topping it, and does in some ways.

However, anyone claiming that the moviemaker is unskilled is a retard. There was a scene where he had zoomed in on a guy before a rail - it's not new or anything, but the how he had done it was completely unique. Most people just use Premiere to zoom in, but he had started a zoom sequence, then cut to the same sequence recaptured in a lower FOV and then done it a third time, just to preserve the quality and not cause it to become blurry.

That just shows dedication to the quest - most people just capture the same scene once and leave it at that, but that sort of dedication to quality is something I admire a lot.

Couldn't agree more, people are just too unappreciative at times especially when things are for free.

True about people calling this movie maker bad are just retards. A lot of it is down to people spending hours a time downloading a movie and then always trying to compare it to something thus spoiling it. They should just accept it for what it is first and enjoy it without trying to slant it using other videos.

As for the music, one song was reused and that was the Craig Armstrong track which is from one of the original Quake 3 movies (Clip Quake). Again true about the music, it fits the action and content just fine, why have a rant because the tracks are done by certain bands? As long as the tracks suit the music and haven't been used 101 times before then I see no problem at all.

hmm actually not many editors i know use premiere to zoom at all.. most people bind +zoom to one of the keys that can be pressed during the demo and that should do it. i dont see why you need to recapture stuff. zooming with the software sux because like you said, things get blurry and pixelated but pressing a zoom key works fine and is much easier than capturing a second time with a lower fov.

in games other than q3 where you may not have a zoom function in a demo (ex: cs ) and have to rely on the software to zoom, capturing at a high resolution and not resizing it down helps.

Aye. Zooming and slowmotion with the editor usually makes for very bad quality.

Hm, to be honest I didn't enjoy this as much as the Lyon Connection. Don't get me wrong, its a great vid, its got alot going for it. The only thing I would pull it down on is that 90% of the kills are fairly regular kills.

Loved it.

I'm a big fan of frag/trick/whatever movies and I try to download as many as possible - especialy if they're highly rated.
So far I would say that Tricking it 2 was by far the best put together movie out there. The best frag movies are The Badge 2, the Badge 3 and Annihilation. The movie with the best frags IMO would probably be FDE 2 (the QW movie).
These recent attempts are very good and I enjoyed watching them. The syncing in this one is especialy good but as I mentioned above, I prefered Lyon Connection as a whole.
If the Badge 2 and 3 and Annihilation are 9/10 (nothings perfect) then I would rate this movie 7/10 (ignore my previously posted 7.5) and Lyon Connection would be 7.5/10.
Great movie, well played but the movie content isn't quite as good as Lyon Connection. If I was in a bad mood It would be easy to pull this movie down on being a little dark, having a not so good sound track and the frags being repetative, but I'm not in a bad mood so I won't mention those ;)

Quakers always seem to concentrate on content. A frag movie is in most cases not only there to show off great content - usually it's made with an artistic ambition, not because you've got a million ÜBER-L33T0R FRAGZZZ that you want to show off.

There's a hell of a lot of effort put into this, and the mood and professionality of this movie far exceeds that put into Lyon Connection as far as I'm concerned.

LOL! of course we do.. Id much rather see 5 mins of amazing frags thrown together, simply cutting from 1 to another with a bit of music in the background, then 10 mins of shite wrapped in nice visual effects and the like...

I hate, hate, hate movies that are just made in Windows Movie Maker with shite quality and no syncing. It just makes my blood boil - just send the demos - it's smaller and it's at better quality AND you can pick your own music to be in the background.

Movies are supposed to be creative and artistical (at best), not just clips of good frags that I've gotten over the years... And I think a lot of people will agree with me on this - average content with great presentation makes for a better experience than awesome content with shite presentation (there is no average presentation - there's only good and kill-me-now).

exceelenet contentt needs very little presesntatation imo, but shit everyday pissflap frags nneed to be coked up to the max to be sorted out.

You could go to town on a load of average kills and make them all sparkle and flash and in sync and flow and look totaly amazing... but it will never be as good as plain, raw demonstration of skill. In any movie of this type, content is by far and away the most important single aspect. Look at Frag Addict, there are awsome special effects featured in that movie - the effects on the rockets are the best I've seen. The movies got alot going for it - except content, I think there are probably only 2 or 3 highlights, the rest's just average. Annihilation on the other hand is almost the opposite - it does include some nice syncing and editing but overall its got the awsome content.
Its like an extreme sports video - you don't pick the one with the nicest music and editing.
IMO anyway :p

It's a combination. I'd rather watch the well-made movie with average frags than a shit movie with awesome frags. But that's because I don't play the game, I guess. For someone who does, the constant feeling of "WTF, I've done that" might overpower the enjoyment of the movie on its technical merits.

AnnihilatioN is a classic because it combines the two - it has awesome frags while at the same time syncing them excellently and introducing whole new ideas to editing - like the polygon-by-polygon highlight & draw sequence, etc.

The feeling is more like that of "oh god not the same thing that is so rutine to me, I actually try to do it diffrently every game" that most frags in that movie give =p

PanaceA, you think exactly like me. Fragaddict was nothing special in content, but everyone was going on about it like it was amazing. Same with this forever 2.

A fine mix is the best IMO. Good frags are of course very nice, but so is nice editing. Really good frags are best when I see the demos they are captured from.

Seriously, get Lyon instead...it blows this one away. THe guy that said it was the other way around should have his balls teared off. Cant believe i wasted 400 to dl this =/

i agree with DvO, this is better than lyon imo. Average frags but great moviemaking makes this what it is. The syncing was absolutely superb, more impressed with that than by great frags really.

This is a great movie, gives me goosebumps in places.

Although the frags aren't that special, this is my new "Why I love Q3" movie.

Everybody I've shown it to has been impressed, including my sister-in-law who knows jack about gaming.

Great movie. It got a little dull near the middle, but picked up pace again with the queen soundtrack and the timed railshots.
Good music choice, good editing.

Well, i thought this movie was going to be awesome but it was only average for me. The frags were not insane enough and i didn't like the music at all.
