They should have been penalized much more for influencing OEMs into not selling Athlons back then. The billion or so they paid was nothing for them, and they DID manage to prevent AMD from gaining a stronger foothold in the market. To equalize that illegally attained competitive advantage their fine should have rather been along the lines of 50 bn.

I am pretty sure they paid less than 5 billion USD in total fines in US and EU, including damages paid to AMD. At this point AMD was basically ruined due to illegally "influencing OEMs" as you called it. I have a better word: extortion.

We have little interest in buying their products for the foreseeable future. They're dead to me in terms of any personal purchases. At this point I'd rather go ARM then hand over money to the devil.

Typing this on a 3700x. Got another one in a significantly smaller form factor. Coming from a 2500k bought back in March 2011, it was quite an upgrade.

Their video cards could use better Linux drivers, though. Got an RX 5700 but switched my gaming machine back to the old 1070 because it just works better. Took them almost an year to ship working Vulkan :/

Sad to see that Intel market share has only gone down low single digit percent since the Ryzen release and Intel 10nm disaster.

Another Intel fiasco and quasi-criminal behavior is that constant requirement for new motherboards. They recently have basically rebranded their 9000 series to 10000 series (technically it's the same), and yet they AGAIN require a new socket and new boards.
How that is not against the rules of markets and society is beyond me.

Anyway, I love those Ryzens. Fast, efficient, and a long life platform. AMD has recently confirmed that even B450, not just X570 boards will support Zen3. That's why I got the 6 core CPU this time, because I will sell that anyway and upgrade to the 8 core next gen.


AMD could use better gfx card drivers, period :) Ever since that Crimson or what it was called came along a couple of years ago they just added feature over feature, while neglecting basic functionality and stability.
I currently have all driver features disabled and do gaming profiles via a tool called OverdriveN that is able to override clocks.

I definitely do like their CPUs better than their GPUs atm..

AMD has already won the desktop enthusiast market and has built quite a bit of mindshare. They have an edge in all three segments: server, desktop, and mobile.

Problem is sales. They need more sales. They are already selling almost everything TSMC is able to produce. Need more wafers. Need to secure more capacity.

Desktop: looks like Ryzen 4000 is going to be a clear win in every department.
Mobile: Renoir is here but no one has released truly premium hardware with the platform. Got a 2500u for my wife a couple of years ago and it's been great, though I've been waiting for an 8 core laptop without a graphics card (just the APU) in an all metal chassis. All that in a 1.1 - 1.3kg package.

I think Lenovo is the only OEM doing anything significant in the ~1000 euro range. I guess we'll see in a couple of months.

Personally I wouldn't go the B450 way if I were to get a Zen 3 (Ryzen 4000) CPU. PCI-E 4.0 is here after all. Useless for now but things will change in a couple of years. Both Sony and MS have meed a very big deal out of their SSDs, meaning games are about to change.

I've been very happy with my 3700x machines. Not sure if I'd upgrade the main one (570 chipset, the other is B450) to the 4700 or even 4900/4950. I'd rather wait for DDR5 before making another step.

I have the itch but I upgraded about an year ago. I think I'll sell the RX 5700, stick the 1070 in its place, and get an 3080 for the main rig. At least nvidia is quick to bring the performance and features to Linux.

I don't get it.. why would you use 15" monitor for playing fps? Looks like your're pretty far from the monitor, you will put a lot of pressure on your eyes/eyesight. Also your eyesight angle and sitting position seems unhealthy, maybe a laptop stand would correct that.
Overall it doesn't make sense to invest so much money in a setup that will not be optimal for performing and bad for your health.

i'm gonna start my stream in some months, sry for delay again (i feel like diab dev ahah xD) but i actually need a lot of practice considering the fact that i change settings often, am tired often because of work, and because of that i don't have discipline in my practice atm, making me only average++. I do love aim arena 1v1 and diab in general tho. So yeah, basically practice practice practice.

But don't worry, my stream will happen eventually, just don't want to rush it especially considering my current level, I want to start it whenever i feel in nearly perfect conditions ;)

no one will watch you for your skills. why would they do that when they can turn on agents stream or any other pro.
