The lack of QC interest i here is really disturbing. I mean yeah not a great game but its still quake tournaments with all the oldschool players and Id like to follow the scene. To this day the QC forum doesnt even have a quake logo and the last 3 major events didnt even have a thread. I am coming here less and less

it's a community-made site. If there isn't any content here it's because nobody is really interested in QC here, yourself and myself included.

i love the esr frontend but the backend is a different story. the site is not easy to mentain, its not possible for admins to just change/add a forum logo for example

Same... I also agree QC is not great as QL (or all the quakes except maybe vanilla q4), but QC got tournaments and all the old school players plays it + 2vs2 is not that bad at all. Even major tournaments didn't get a thread, coverage or any discussion even if a lot of great old school legends played it.

I kinda understand the boycott, but this will just lead to a shrink of the site, it's already 1/4 (assumption) or less than what it was 2 years ago.

I miss so much the community, discussions, coverage and threads here... but from a year and more, it's literally a dead place without anything to read or comment on every time I open it.. and before I was here all day long and have what to comment on + what to read.

Once upon a time, most forums and sites had good, slick designs. Easy to read, easy to browse.

But it's an unwritten rule of corporations that no matter how perfect your actual site/forum/internal organization/whatever currently is, you MUST change it sooner or later, just for the sake to say "see? we're changing!"

Esr would have been glad to follow the trend, and would have already changed the desing 10 years ago.... if it had the resources.

Esr browses good because it's a relic from the past and nobody has the resources/time to ruin it.

I've been coming here for 14½ years, and I don't think I've ever seen the top news item being a week old.

Well, there are no news, quake is dead. I think a news post that is 7 days old is gold for being a quake-related site, i wouldn't be surprised if the latest news post was 2 months old

There is no reason to still come here if not for the occasional handful of banter and internal jokes that nobody outside here would understand.

- The perfect design. Thats like the Grimrock game series - its hardcore ultra old-school classic, which is so well done that doesnt look ridicilous nowadays.

- The power of inertia - if you spent a 5-7 (or the whole 10) years somewhere and wrote a N thousands of replies, you just cannot let it go until sujoy forgets to pay for the domain and 404.

- Everybody here is as old as you. Or, fuck, even older. Not the other way around. Therefore you get a more or less decent meaningful written speech instead of some random teens spamming each other with zillions of emoticons and abbreviations and supposed-to-be-funny-pics.

- I just like (d) the esr type of humour. Black, hopeless and mature. Excluding a few hysterical retards, its a not bad company to spent time into. I would go and hang-up with esr dudes in some cyber bar to play and have a couple of drinks later. And to exchange a couple of blackeyes over some videogames bullshit.

The real businesses have taken over. Now there is nothing to achieve anymore. If you want to create something which can compete you need a high amount if energy today. When the internet was young there was so much to invent and the excitement about it was endless. Everybody could feel that there was something huge was going on and everybody wanted to be a part of it. Now most of the things are already done by the real businesses and if not there will be a company doing it. If there will be none then its not worth doing it. What is left are the things that are only of low benefit.

That's why there are only trolls left. There is no such thing as we create exciting stuff anymore. What to talk about then?

Still the thing here is about Quake, i mean sbout real Quake. Some here swallow the QC pill but i am sure deep down at their heart they know that it is not what there should be. We are here because there is nowhere else to go. Where else is it about real Quake? But in the face if competing with real businesses all we have left to do is ro argue about the right taste. Waiting for someone to fullfill our wet dreams.

And if they are getting fullfilled than this place is not needed abymore too.

why not simply create esr discord group and delete this website altogether

There is an ESR discord (there's a link on every page, check the top of the side bar) and why delete the site? If you don't like it, no one forces you to come here.

i don't want to come here, but quake community badly needs a better platform to host people who actually want to grow quake community and not complain about everything on their mind. we need to fix esr so that people don't waste their time on stuff that won't make the community any better.

There's always Reddit, maybe that's a best place for you?

Well you are bad at guessing what people are to be honest. I dont like reddit and my IQ is above 120, I don't enjoy arguing on esr, because I know it's pointless to argue with idiots who think Quake is a sport to begin with, which what this site is trying to promote.

This site basically promotes toxicity and pointless arguing, and people who get plussed usually make childish arguments that promote toxicity toward every single person who doesn't agree that Quake is a lifestyle worthy to be proud about, it's just a game played by some nerds in their parents basement, get over it.

QC was Tillits' million dollar idea to kill ESR and get rid of ArenaFPS elitist, thus effectively ridding and scattering the Quake community which consists of a bunch of most cynical and critiquing gamers to ever touch the surface of the planet.

Sadly, when q4 failed it was kinda easy to get back to Q3 (still a lot of players interested in quake). Then QL was released with a rough start, but pick up some traction and then sadly they removed the site and so on... so QL was fading and losing players. Then QC came, it sadly didn't turn out great even if there were some good ideas in it.. but QL was already fading and QC release killed it. There is no coming back to QL anymore, we had low players numbers before QC.. now there are 1/20 of those. The only chance for some QL revive would be id to get back to it and that would never happen.

ESR is mostly a quake site, latest quake game is basically dead so that will reflect in the community sites based around that game.

ESR has been "dead" before but always came back to life when there's something worth talking about.

Probably get busier again when DB, or the next id shooter is out.
A real relationship is one which doesn't need constant stimulation to stay alive. As long as the site is online, it will tick over.

Rather it be that way that get taken over with ads and kids talking about 100 million fortnite skins.
