Then disable steam cloud for ql in game properties - UPDATE tab within steam., move repconfig and qzconfig and autoexec out of baseq3, that brings everything to default.

Just switched to the steam QL a couple of days ago and I get random crashes aswell. Sometimes I'll make it through a game and sometimes I won't.

Most game crashes seem to happen during FFA matches on EU servers.

I recommend that you don't write "OMG ql crashes WTF?!" but something like "ql crashed with this error during a ffa game on this map. I run windows 8.1, I had these programs open, my pc specs are...". Maybe we can find a solution.

QL crashes with "StackHash_0a9e" error during all types of game (ffa/clan arena/race etc.) on any maps.
Only NOD32 antivirus is on, no programs are opened.

I suffer from random crashes - however I've just played CA online in warmup mode for about 20 minutes with no trouble. Previous to this I played a CA game for about 5 minutes with a crash. Windows 7 64 switched to steam last week. I don't manage to get through most games, I think I've only completed 4 games in total due to crashing.

Been playing on steam since the official 27 oktober release, but this error just started to happen like 2 days ago. And today it just happened again.

No new programs have been installed or any new system changes.

Only updated the video card driver when my first crash appeared approximately 2 days ago.

Sadly, the new drivers did not help.

I also tried to uninstall steam with quake live and install everything fresh again, but even that did not help.

So to quote QWIH kinda: is this bug known @ id? And will this be fixed in a new update shortly?

Incidentally you have r_simpleMipMaps 0, set it to 1 if you don't want garbage looking steam avatars in game.

Tried everything. Game still crashes from time to time.

So it's not about porting to steam. It's about last update.

/players show their steam id and some sort of hierarchy but i not sure if it any use.

\players to get playerid (you never have to worry about the steamID unless you're trying to manually add people to mod/banlists as a server owner tbh, or just hunting for aliases)

the most un-fucking-bearable thing is that you connect to a server, wait up for your turn to play, start playing after 10 mins, crash midmap, go back to the server, somebody now has your spot so you wait 10 mins. Repeat.

Aside from actual hardware, maybe OS (fully updated, clean, win 10 x64 pro here), only thing I have that might be different is I am opted into the Steam client beta channel

Steam -> Settings -> Accounts, drop down option near the bottom. Do try that if you haven't already. The crashes for most do seem to be from within steamclient.dll

For the most part it's a case of, (abysmal analogy time!) :


Customer : I have a copy of your gigantic haystack (of code), mine is bugged as there is this pin in it that keeps stabbing me, this is your fault, fix it, but you can't look at my haystack, you have to find the pin in your own copy, fix it, and then send the fix to me.

id : There is no evidence of any pin in any of our copies, no one is being stabbed, even passing over it with magnets is showing no sign of any pin.


The one person who posted a full minidump for a crash revealed it to come from steamclient.dll which id have no access to source code for or even symbols so they can't debug it even if they COULD replicate the crash themselves, that's entirely in Valve's hands.

I did what little I could with n00kie to try and work out anything that could be changed on the client to mitigate the issue but I don't think anything helped, there's one guy going round saying that upgrading to win10 solved it for him though if you wanted to take a stab in the dark yourself, at least the upgrade is still free at the moment.

It's free but then you lose your copy of your original OS no?

e: and the OS (win10) become OEM also which means it is hardware bound.

config its damiah cfg with personal binds and cl_timenudge -30 thats all i ve changed and resolution
runing QL and Steam from SSD set to ahci (crucial mx200) in wich windows its also installed

What more... standard clock cpu speed and memory, default settings in bios, taskbar running app are:
Intel management and Security status, skype, windows essensials av, nvidia geforce experience, sony pc companion, oracle vm, poweriso, windows wifi network, realtek sound app.

Its really fustrating, i ve purchased ql few months ago, in the last month i start having this error every 3-30 mins max, once i even had 3 errors in only one CA game. I think its a pity that such a big comunity and such an big games&entertaining firm like Valve (steam) and id software or any name they have these days dont offer an solution for this problem. Go to your network settings and disable every adapter you don't need (including adapters for virtual machines and whatnot) and also disable everything in the used adapter's settings too except IPv4. So you should have a single adapter you are using and in that single adapter only IPv4, nothing esle (no client for microsoft networks, QoS, LLDP, IPv6... etc), and even the IPv4's advanced settings, disable the NETBIOS over TCPIP stuff too... Does it still crash like that?

I don't have that BEX crash, instead i have a annoying glitch that simple crash everything on the game into a polygonal mess. I have pics and everything, i simple don't know why this happen.

The graphic card i have is a Radeon 9600 pro, a bit older radeon card but runs the game pretty okay with a low-cfg i made for it.

Firstly If you haven't already, download the latest AMD Catalyst drivers and see if that fixes things. Most issues are caused from simply using older drivers.

The image looks like it's showing messed up vertex array buffers to me so you could try changing this in your config from:

seta r_ext_compiled_vertex_array "1"

to

seta r_ext_compiled_vertex_array "0"

That should turn off the batching and use the old slower but less memory consuming way of drawing triangles.

I checked the drivers, they are on the last compatible version (10.2)
i change my cfg and change the value of that line. It fix the bug but now i dropped a lot of fps (before i was hitting 125 ~ 100 fps in almost every map) but right now i was only hitting 45 ~ 82 and is really annoying that bouncy fps.

Anyways, thanks, you really fixed it. Just my pc is shitty and really need to buy a new thing. But if you can give me some tips / cfg commands to have a little boost. I really appreciate it.

I still get the steam authentication crash every time I play. sometimes I can't finish 1 duel w/o crashing. Shits like a disease, game hangs and 999s for a couple seconds letting u know next time it happens, you're getting asefukd. People say it's a config issue but I deleted my old one, and re-created new one from scratch and no difference?

I don't play csgo, but no I haven't noticed. It happens when I play other nonsteam games... which makes me think it's pc related, but the hitch could also be that b/c I'm connected to steam, but it usually doesn't crash other games, only quake

I think it's either r_primitives or s_mixahead, set them both to default and test if it crashes again. Say how it went.

Scratch that, It's Resolution Related. Switching to a 4:3 resolution was a bad idea for me. Switching to 16:9 fixed it. I started Getting this BEX crash after I recently connected a second monitor, i also changed a few settings and updated my GPU drivers. Then it started crashing, so i retraced my steps and so far after switich to 16:9 (old resolution) there has been no crashes. I'll let you know if i get crash or not over the next days.

News from the front. So changing resolution didn't help. But has anyone tried turning off DEP by using cmd as admin:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff and reboot. ?

So tired of these crashes. Someone said it might have something to do with the awesomnium process. Qwih and Bogo, help me do some research here. After you've connected to a game/server kill the awesomnium process in task manager. Ingame browser will stop working so you'll have to restart the game to change server. If this makes the game crash no more atleast we know what's causing the crashes... Also, are we all on 4:3 crt monitors?

Nope i have a random 60hz monitor. Dont know if i still crash when i kill the process although i think it happens to me anyway. I'll take mental note from now on.

I use wine on linux and have the crashes since steam. Using a 16:9 window was a workaround, but inconvenient.
For me sending the STOP signal (19) to the awesomium process seems to be enough. I have STOP and CONT bound using xbindkeys: that way I don't have to restart ql.

Mkay so I started getting sporadic crashes between matches right when the "awaiting gamestate" screen shows and it boots me out of the game (quake live has stopped working), then every map switch, and now it crashes at every first attempt to join, a.k.a. I can't RUN A FUCKING GAME. the only time i was able to join was when i vid restarted and the gamma goes super dark, then -not- fix it with r gamma 1. when the awaiting game shows, gamma has reset to normal and i join. but guess what. next map - crash. or even during the match. win 8.1 x32. what the fucking fuck is going on

Do you still have problems? Did they start suddenly? Do you if you updated any software/drivers prior to problems first occure, perhaps Steam updated? Have made you made any dhanges to your cfg? Win8.1 yiu say, but what hardware? I doubt it's got anything to do with the Awesomium process but did you try that fix (see above)

then restart steam and any workshop things you have actually subscribed to will be re-downloaded, run extraQL now if you use that and set it up again.

For many this solves crashes for weeks to months before they start happening again from things being auto-downloaded because of the servers you've visited.

This didn't work for me. Started having crashes every now and then a month ago. Now they happen pretty much all the time. Usually during the loading screen of a map. "Quake Live has stopped working".

Then if you've eliminated cleaning your copy of QL by validating game files, wiping workshop, even deleting completely and reinstalling, wiping the game cfg completely with steam cloud disabled. Keeping threaded optimization off in nvidia cpl. You would have to start debugging your gpu drivers and hardware as frequent crashes are not that common if the game install is clean.

Finally uninstalled steam itself, reinstalled steam and problem solved. Dont ask me how or why that worked but it did. I just blame steam with their endless updates :)

Try to turn off antivirus? Also make sure steam and QL is run with "run as admin". Maybe also update drivers.

Not an easy solution but reinstalling Windows would probably help, or if you have restore points, go back to one before the issue started. Access restore point via control panel.
