I'm not fond of this 'buffing other champs' idea that players are advocating. With the crapfest that they call netcode it just becomes a lottery AND timesink to reduce the huge stacks players can get.

I feel most other characters are quite balanced to be honest. Sorlag needs her spit ability reduced slightly in damage, not able to spit and shoot at the same time, have a slight decrease in max. stack and fix the leaning animations. In addition Anarki needs a better lean animation, doomguy needs his hitboxes fixed and slash needs a hitbox fix as well when crouchsliding. If they manage to do that they might actually fix a lot of player frustrations without touching or buffing the other champs.

Not sure why anyone would buff Anarki - the guy can speed around the maps like a tazmanian devil, is pretty hard to hit due to his and has a good ability. It should come at a price ffs ...

Anarki's hitbox is getting increased in the new update, or so I have heard. Some people think this will make him unviable, so he might need a buff then - I'd say either increasing his max health to 100 or something, or making his injection increase HP by 5 each time would be a nice balance, but I guess it depends to what degree his hitbox has been altered.

+1 to your Sorlag idea btw.

the most logical nerf would be that the 'direct spit hits' don't do 25 damage a piece. As that is the main reason why smaller champs can't ever get close.

For me the worse mistake was including including promode type mechanics, when vanilla quake was already a big jump up for a lot of the potential new players.

Nearly 20 years on, the meta of quake 3 is STILL too much for most FPS players, most of whom have been spoon fed shit due to joypads on consoles, and the popularity of games like CS/COD.

Most of those using slash, anarki, sorlag are vets, they would have bought and played the game regardless, even if not, they accounted for a small percentage of sales in relation to the big numbers who look at the game and get put off by the sheer pace and maneuverability of what these characters do, who are now on every game mode and add a lot of spice to an already spicy game.

To me bringing champs to the masses was like getting a friend who always orders mild curries, to try something like a jalfrezi or balti, you finally get him to go there after years (decent gaphics/abilties etc), to make that change, and then your idiot mate comes along and switches his order to a madras, korma guy ends up burning his mouth, his eyes water and never tries another curry again because in that moment where you had a chance, you burned him.

Lol, aircontrol is not even close to be relevant in all that curry thing.

Counter Strike = Korma.
Quake = Balti
Promode/Reflex/Painkiller = Madras.

Way more people like Korma, Balti's, Jalfrezi than Madras.
PROMODE/PK/WARSOW/REFLEX=madras, vindaloo, phaal variations.

Someone who likes madras can still eat a Balti and enjoy. Even a Korma, but they will moan its for babies.

Nobody can eat a madras and enjoy if their limit is Korma, Balti's, Jalfrezi.

I think QC's biggest problem is its trying to appeal to two types of gamer all in one package and not really appealing to either.

The vets don't like it because its too different to the old quakes. They're mostly playing it because its new and the most active quake at the moment.

The new players don't like it because its still "quake enough" for them to dislike it. Even if it was only Q3 physics I think it would still be this way.

Seems like the core game is not going to change though. I think the following things could help it a lot:

A single player campaign, where you have to use the champions and all their abilities and movement to get through the game. Then at least you'd know how to do everything. Kind of like Q3's SP but more extensive and imaginative.

There should also be a practice mode, like warmup mode but lasts 10 mins per map, and doesn't keep score. Yeah, its stupid as a game mode but it lets people practice things and learn the maps without feeling like they got owned.

For the vets I think they will get used to it, if the game has a lot of new players coming in, I think thats the main thing. But a classic duel mode would probably be appreciated a lot. However if new players aren't coming in, and tournaments aren't being played, then why would the vets stick around? Might as well go back to the old quakes or just accept fast paced FPS is dead and move on.

600ms to 1 second seems good, but +other 2 is too much. they must remove the one of the other 2 imo

I don't play him, but since I rarely see him played, I feel like it is a good move. It's also very fitting to clutch, since he is a tank.

hope they don't fuck Sorlag up. It is the most fun champ to play against for me, the best designed and probably the easiest to frag (to me again). I have even fragged her vs pro players. But I see many ppl whine about her and it is a fact that she is very popular. Maybe, she is very fitting to my style, I am not an aimer and always try to outsmart my opponents. I had big problems with her only at the start and was also pissed, then I started respecting her, kept some distance, being aware of her ability and traps and she started to grow on me, becoming my fav champ to play against. Since she is a big target, it feels very nice pilling 7s with lg vs her and hitting rails from distance.

The only characters that are a bit annoying to me, are anarki and slash, but after last update their hit detection improved and aren't extremely annoying. I still feel anarki is a bit lame and playing him doesn't reward any imagination. U r just hard to hit. U get out fast when u might die and some times u leave and return back. That is all that all good anarki players do. The not good ones, are just easy to frag, except maybe from ffa, where even weak players can produce good results with him. nyx, galena and ranger have very creative plays and scalebearer, sorlag and clutch to a lesser extent.

edit: I also think that anarki backfired for some players, like fazz (and even maybe rapha). He makes u get used to lamely easy play and when u play the other champs u fail (harder to move, easier to hit). Unless u r a CPM star, like voo, choosing anarki as ur main champ, can easily backfire.
