People who got it during QuakeCon get to keep it. Pretty cool to think clawz used it to win QWC, it'll be a prized item. Imagine if you could trade or sell items.

what irks me the most is the bullshit PR spin, they can't say anything explicitly, it's all coated in marketing/PR talk more than anything I ever read. It's hard to find a clear indicator of what they're saying often, they're that vague.

It's been almost half a year and we are still downloading the whole game (at least that's what it seems) for a a few cosmetic changes.
How about fixing that?

The update was few MB download, literally 1 second.

Functionally it's 100% but FPS is even worse than on Windows and all the microstutters are big chokes.

1/10 not recommended for actually playing, but fine for opening Twitch crates.

If so yes, but it also shows great amateurism and a severe lack of technical understanding. Something which I can hardly believe would take place at any game studio.

Those things are hardly connected...
One is for promotion/commercial purposes while the other is for technical structure.

Besides, the real costs during development are still human labor.

(Although tbh resending 12GB per update to each client seems seriously retarded and not worth it. Especially because there are just update programs for that (which see which files are needed to be updated and which are not etc.))

In general though for each 20k you put into human labor (programmer) you should only need up to a max of 200$ of hosting to host whatever the guy made for any duration it is needed.
(where some things are relatively simple to make but demand extremely high quality due to them being hosted for an extended period (servers) while other things are complex to make but are downloaded only once (graphical stuff))

Github offered to host notepad++'s 200GB a month plugin list (50k, 4 million times) for $80 a month (source), I'm going to assume that was a very competitive as it was a bail out offer, now Quake Champions updates aren't going out to 4 million users, but they're not likely to be just 50k during development even if they stop encrypting the pak files so they diff a little better

Bethesda will have a really good deal somewhere as well... but 80$ a month for 200GB of sending information is more than I expected (I'm not really into hosting of stuff, I do occasionally pay for hosting some stuff which is not downloaded too often).
If they have a similar deal then each time someone downloads the game will cost bethesda 4.8$... I can see a bankruptcy coming if they release it f2p and patch it a few times.

huh, really? that's not what they said, and sometimes it downloads the 10+GB way too fast to be a real download.

It doesn't. It checks (slowly) and stop to download where needed.
