Yeah, will have fun, since the game is vastly superior in every imaginable aspect and most of that 20 players are at least decent (+ there's also RU pickup and I have playable pings to their servers) and we are doing ACTUAL TDM, not pretending during an FFA shitfest infested with warping noobs.

A suggestion about weapon respawn times being increased in TDM in QC could be made for it to be changed.

There's also a ranking system and competitive system about to be released allowing to play against players your skill in a competitive environment directly from the game (just like in CS and OW), something we never had in quake and was definitely missing IMO.

I still love QL don't get me wrong, but I'm also having a lot of fun playing sacrifice pugs team vs. team at the moment :)

You can also do TDM pugs on QC atm and there will be the competitive/ranked feature available soon for you to test yourself with other players your level, avoiding the "FFA shitfest infested with warping noobs".

i've given up on TDM waaaay before the steam release. back when, you know, TDM was being played, and you could join a server if you wanted to play TDM, and not have to do pickups.

Such times never happened in ql.

Public QLTDM was rofl even when it existed. No proTDM ruleset (this is already enough to not take it seriously) and headless struggle with quitters and players who have absolutely zero idea how TDM should be played.


Please, don't compare it to a proper pickup game unless you want the cringe-meter to go berserk.

pub tdm was beyond fucked by design due to lack of matchmaking. the ability to join *any* game at *any* time makes for extremely bad environment unless there is a somewhat self-moderating community, which you can't expect in a completely public place. the fact that weapon resp is 30 means the people who were already prone to quitting can't even get a decent weapon, which makes them almost guaranteed to leave the team.

if there was matchmaking, game starting when enough players are found and quitters got punished, then perhaps it would be playable. you would queue for "casual" ruleset (5 or 15 weapon resp) or "pro" and bam, everyone interested can pew pew with decent weapons and if some of the casuals learn to strafejump one day, they may consider going up a little bit

according to Steve_Asshat_Jobs #pickuptdm is all full of kindergarten children learning to play TDM and ELO sub-1000.

(pre-steam TDM was "pro" by default, if you mean weapon respawn time, MG damage and per-weapon ammo. i'm not talking about LOLTDM introduced by Sync after steam release, with universal ammo and 5 sec weapons).

Steve_Jobs has played #tdmpickup for years, and still plays to this day. He is 1200 elo, and I have never seen anyone, in all this time, be unfriendly or disrespectful to him. The average elo for any #tdmpickup match is 1450. All skill levels are welcome.

again, i played TDM when QL launched early beta, when rail was still 100. in those days TDM had the 4 MG, long respawn ruleset as default. Matches were to 140 points and i've rarely completed one, as people would just quit when it gets to be 50-5.And yes people would rage on you for taking quad or RA or mega, but mostly you wouldn't be let in unless you were 35LG and 50rail. No ELO back in those days, so just votekicks.
i actually quite enjoyed the newTDM rules with 100 scoreboard, fast respawn and generic ammo, but nobody from "pro" TDM wanted to play or even support it.
And these were the same people who wanted people to join #tdmpickup, and by this time i'd already move on to BL:R.
My pre-steam IGN was iSuckz and whenever my clan was in i'd be playing CA anyway.

First of all, I don't recall rail dealing 100 dmg during beta. Im not a 100% sure about the earliest stages, but they went with the cq3 weapon "balance" pretty much right away. Here's a proof. Early beta in 2008 = 80 dmg.

Second, you couldnt votekick or lock teams during beta, which is mostly why tdm died instantly. The tdm was ruined by idiots like detlew, who were nonstop killing their teammates and when the clueless duo came out with a "solution" (being kicked after 5 teamkills), they just jumped into people's rockets or blocked doors/hallways. You couldnt spawn servers back then so any attempt at an organized tdm match was shut down by randoms joining games and blocking spots. And 2v2? Not that great when a 3rd or 4th person can join your team. On a 2v2 server, that is.

Tdm was well alive in q3 but in ql it was dead before they even came up with "pro" servers (with standard settings). So I'm not really sure what times are you describing.

The gametype called "TDM" in QC has little to do with TDM, because with weapons respawing every 5 seconds there is almost nothing that teams can fight for. QCTDM mostly degrades into FFA with only half of players killable.

You forgot to mention that you can go thru other team players, so item grabbing between them is so common that this gametype should be named TFFA.

Have been playing some games, was very fun. Also some 2on2 games due to lack of players. Currently last game was 18 hours ago, average a few games per day but just 1-2 more players per day would make a big difference in getting more games.

Tbh I can see why. They are almost all the time using proper voicecom. I mean EVERYBODY.
(And obviously they have better pings tu RU servers - not to mention they are using their native language.)

i guess you just search for QuakeRussia to join the channel. Then for tdm, 2v2 and ctf pickup it's the text channel ql-pickup. Most players speak English and not only Russian players.
