Quake World Championships North America Duel Qualifier #1 (88 comments)

The

North America Qualifiers for the Quake World Championships start today, June 30 at 19:00 CDT. The duel portion of the Championships will have $340 000 up for grabs. You can register for the Online Qualifiers at the ESL page.

The Qualifier will be played in Single Elimination format, with the 394 and counting players competing until the top 16 players have been identified. On Sunday, 2nd of July, starting 14:00 CST, each Ro16 match will be played and live streamed. Each of the 8 winners advances to the Quake World Championship Regional Finals.

Not sure, but brazilian server wasnt pinging nice the last month to the other countries, also the rushed beta coped with a subpar brazilian connection/cpu server made the experience even worse and activity nearly died one month ago.

Flesh1 is kind of picky, im sure he wont play with >200ms to NA. At least not with his real name.

A proper SA server and qualy would surely had a lot more activity, but looks like id doesnt cares much about the third region in activity in the world (acording to qlstats).

Anyone else think rangers passive is stupid? He has the orb so i barely see the mofo rocketjumping around.

I think they should give him the passive of 'silent running' and give the rocket jumping passive to sarge or doom

There are four qualifiers, it's not a problem for anyone strong to get through eventually.

There was apparently no seeding, and it's sort of understandable, because with a new game there is no fair way to seed the players. But having four qualifiers should compensate enough for bad brackets.

I think it's mostly the result of eu beeing much more competitive and stacked than NA. We're going to miss big names from EU while in the US all the known names will make it with some newer ones as a bonus. Eu is so stakced the only surprises you'll see is who doesn't make it :P

They should've atleast let 16 players qualify from eu, then 12 from NA, then the last 4 through their byoc.

Because their BYOC unless some people from eu or even aus go through the trouble of flying there and get a byoc seat to qualify, it's gonna be mostly americans.

Technically its 20 NA players for 12 EU players... :P

Just watched some matches. Jesus Christ this is ~~shameful~~ painful to watch, how low skill these American people are. You can see by the way they move and position themselves that they don't think about game tactics more than timing items, it's all about see your opponent and shoot. Basically this means that some NA noob is taking place for some good European player just because he's American. These qualifiers in the future need to be organized differently, so that good players attend from all over the world, and not organize equal qualifiers everywhere, it just doesn't make sense.

You are correct, I edited original post. Tournament organizers shouldn't be ashamed, but righteous. This is not the first QuakeCon, and they have statistics from previous tournaments that is so obvious about skill difference between USA and rest of the world. Organizing equal qualifications is just not fair and doesn't bring the best players to tournament.
Perhaps a tiny bit little shame for players because they don't devote more brain power into game, instead of just playing like total newbies on qualifiers for the whole CONTINENT.

Some were pretty good good (clamp, griffin, chance etc can all play), but I agree there's a lot of Euros and russians who would have beaten all but the top 2-3 Americans and maybe even then.

But I think the winners of the big money will be the usual suspects.

P.S.

I was watching Rapha's stream, and saw his sense was like 2.9 or something with no accel option, but I heard rapha has like sub 15cm per 360, so the only way I can see how he's doing that is by using a high dpi, or possibly high native windows.

Unless its something in his mouse drivers.

Any ideas?

If Bethesda doesn't care for South America, please, just remove the Server, but nobody is believing that just "allowing" the SA players to subscribe is fair, playing and losing to mid-skilled players with 10 times ping difference.
