Latest drivers are 368.69, released on July 6th.
Most games use DirectX, so that's what nVidia cares most about. Quake uses OpenGL and NV might have tested that a bit less thoroughly.

Why? Windows 10 is a lot better than 8.1 and a little better than 7. For the data collecting? They released updates to enable that on 7/8/8.1 looong time ago + you can turn off updates in 10.

- Those kind of glitches are mostly memory related.

Record it. If it's in the video, then upload it to YT and report it on their forum. If it's a driver error then they will probably fix it because they will care about Pascal for a few months (and perhaps QL might get some love from NV in the process, well, they will need to install and start it once at least)

From my experience with graphic cards, especialy high end cards (and i had a lot), if you have geometry artifacts = the card will fail soon. Any artifacts generaly means the card already has some physical damage, be it temporary due to high voltage or not temporary which it seems to be the case with yours.

Generaly NVIDIA do a good job when they do an architecture shrink which Pascal is, its not a new archi, just a shrink.

But this time its quite bad. GTX 1080 stock is less powerful than a good GTX 980Ti oc'ed. And they are raising their high end product prices every years. Quite the opposite from what they did with GTX 680 which was an archi shrink and was 500euros max. Its also the most relaible card they ever made so far.

PS : From a technical standpoint we can see that the 10xx serie in terms of perf is just a 980 with higher clocks thanks to lower transistor size. And even their, there is room to improve. There is also the problem that their marketing is totaly bullshit this year, their official launch was just a paper launch. better wait for everything to be fixed with newer batches + prices will drop 15% in 4 months.

Im gonna take that 1070 too if they fix everything, otherwise ill wait a bit more.

Update your driver to the latest one. I was getting flickering before and haven't had it since. If it's actual polygons artifacting its probably a hardware issue though.

It doesn't help much but with a 750ti and those drivers (368.69) I have zero problems, so it seems it's card or system specific.

If it's any of the pascal issues mentioned in links above, I really hope they can sort all of that out because that's terrible, and I really wanted a pascal card :/

Thanks for the info.. I'll try new drivers out. I doubt this would be hardware related as QL is the only game this happens with. I haven't tried Q3A though, I might give that a shot.

edit:

I noticed on that Nvidia forum some users fixed it by setting the power option to 'max performance' in the driver. I did this and the problem went away. I am assuming that QL's low GPU usage was making the card underclock too much, or something like that.

Underclocking never result in artifacts. Fixing it this way means only that the power management is at fault.

Just got the flickering again with new drivers, so it didn't fix it. the maximum performance setting doesn't fix it for me but setting the monitor to 120hz and back to 144hz fixes it.

Just for an update: I still get these glitches.. they just randomly came back. I run at 120hz. Latest drivers.

if it's only in one game, delete and reinstall that game

if it doesnt occur on gpu heavy games, then the gpu wont be broken lol.
quake takes like 1-2% gpu load, other games might use it 100%.

reinstalling of quake doesnt help either, why should it?

- try different settings

Okay I added my response, alias 'mzry'. I have to say the issue seems to be far less frequent these days, definitely use the max performance option because it helps. But still, sometimes it happens.

I have a little bit different issue, but may be someone knows the solution. I also switched to 1070 and win10. My problem is when QL's resolution doesn't match with my desktop resolution, and I want to switch to fullscreen from window mode it waits a few seconds with a black screen, then displayrefresh doesn't switch to 120hz, only after I vid_restart it...

Obviously refresh rate is set to 120 hz both in win and game...

That should only happen if your r_displayrefresh doesn't match your desktop refresh rate, or your colour depth is different between the two, or just randomly sometimes unfortunately and you have to just alt-enter a couple of times again.
