Everyone living in the past with this WMO bs.

Well there aren't a load of options moving away from one. Right now I'm looking for a new mouse. I've discounted the DM1-Pro due to some apparent clicking issues. The mouse I'll probably get will be the ZA12, if it ever comes back in stock in local shops. The g303 seems like a risky shape, and the Rival 100 is a candidate but nobody speaks as highly of it as the others.

If you like bigger ergonomic mice there are a plenty of good choices.

edit: Which is why I think it's weird asking for a new IME3 rather than a WMO ;) They'd mess it up anyway - see the Rival 700 for what people think gamerz want.

There is a good reason wmo/ie3.0 are *still* considered special mice. They always were dirt cheap and the MLT04 optical sensor is near perfect, with amazing 1:1 resolving of movement, almost no prediction, perfect lift-off distance on almost any surface.
After it came sensors that excelled in dpi (lulz), max. tracking and lots and lots of bullshit marketing blabber, but could not match the raw precision of MLT04
Also the shapes are just amazing, nice mouse clicks, good mouse feet and feet shape.
Just an amazing piece of engineering by Microsoft. I'd call it the best thing microsoft ever created :p

Limiting factors of WMO are 1) low dpi (actually 420 to 440) and 2) low malfunction speed, compared to more modern mice.

1) is a non-issue, simply set win speed 2 notches higher, almost any game that's worth something uses raw input, not win input, so no precision will be lost.

2) for low sens players this is the problem factor. While many quake players and some CS players used light amounts of accel to compensate, others just got used to not going above the perfect tracking speed of 1.55 m/s (with USB is set to 500 Hz). It is not hard, just takes some time to learn

Same specs with 1000dpi (4K ready) and 4m/sec max. tracking would be the pinnacle of mousing. The end of optical mouse development. The Singularity.

I can agree with some of those points

Technically, 400dpi is kind of dodgy in 1080p if your sens is too high ( and by that I mean less than 20cm/360 ). It doesn't actually effect your ability to aim as the game still receives more than enough inputs to do its calculations but the translation to the renderer won't be perfectly accurate and some jitter will show up. A really extreme example would be random ca pubbies who seem to move their crosshair in blocks of 16 pixels at once.

'technically' is right word imo. the hand is only so accurate. 400 dpi is 157 steps per one centimeter of mouse movement, or about 16 steps per millimeter.
At some point it is smarter to lower sensitivity then using a hyper sensible mouse setup and missing because of muscle jitter :D

regarding resolution, it only matters for 2D applications. 3D engines calculate in degree instead of pixels, any 'skipping' is independent of ingame resolution, the resolution is projected onto the view angle so to say.

Yeah the projection doesn't get visibly fucky unless your sens is stupidly high but paranoia's a bitch :D

I don't understand this argument about IE 3.0 being old. I feel like I had mine for about 5 years at most dunno. I still have the box and everything and there hasn't been a day that I haven't used it. Just a simple decent 400dpi mouse. I don't understand why people get worked up when somebody asks for support or getting the 1000hz overclock in Win10 working. Which it finally does by the way, I'm using it as we speak and it's glorious. Forgot how big a of a difference it makes.
I'm not saying hey let's bring Razer Boomslang over again but I don't feel like IE 3.0 is that old. It's almost like when I was hooking up my old 8800GT on a spare pc and somebody said OMG these are so old now. Dafuq? Sure I don't use that one, I have a newer GPU but people always make it out like you are using Riva TNT or something
