although it did break my heart watching cooller fuck up so many rocketjumps

i'm a big fan of base and was very glad when he won the 125 cup final but he is somewhat surprising here.

maybe i didnt watched his pov too much, but base always seemed to me as kinda slow and cautious aimer with the lowest fov along all tops, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about base is him taking a peak from of the corner, shooting and immediately stepping back.

I've only seen him play a few times, and that was quite a while ago, but his movement instantly struck me as super fluid and smooth, and executing some unconventional moves quite flawlessly, not unlike fearz, and it stuck with me ever since... maybe he was just having a good day :D

especially when he's on fire vs a very good opponent. Its art. Very enjoyable to watch

ash has sick movement. the fastest. the steadiest. its always like watching supersonic while you spec him. tbh, hes even too fast sometime. twas a time when he had no brakes at all, constantly rushing in to the room right into his opponnents welcoming shaft.

evil moves like no other while shooting. if i remember correct, it was spartie that claimed evil's got the best tracking lg he's ever saw - stated right after evil's sick chasing the shit out of him in some zotacs. like a hungry beast - funny that in that period he even used the model doing these swinish grunts all the time.

and - surprise! - ...agent. inspite of the fact that his overall movement is horrible and he misses cruical items and rocketjumps and falls and hits walls here and there, agent has developed unholy dodge in rocket fights. especially, when there's some obstacle around. in the YA zone in aero, around the RA pillar in ztn, around the MH column in silence - this fucker will win 9 of 10 fights. maybe, because he sees the pillar all round? )

i think ql needs a very clean execution in some cases tho, specially 1v1, in vq3 was even harder. It's just the squarish nature of the movement what makes people perform every trick the same way, you need to be incredibly brilliant to get out of the norm.

evil is definitely the most efficient though, hard to count the number of "how did he get there so fast!" he gets during his games.

Cypher has the most elegant and fluid movement ever witnessed in q3/ql.

Other than that, I enjoyed watching pretty much everyone with a unique style (lexer, unkind, cooller, v3rb...).
This has gone to shit with ql as its nearly impossible to distinguish players based on their movement, with very few exceptions (k1llsen, fearzzz). Everyone seems to be carrying a bag of bricks nowadays, one of the reasons I stopped watching quake.

walter in cpma/vq3 days had by far the best movement i've seen utilized in duel.

zamuz era 2003-06 when he still had high sensitivity.

v3rb in later days of cpma/vq3 and 2011-ish best movement in QL tdm.

sev3n/fazz best movement in current day QL duel scene.

Always thought Rapha's movement was underrated, in a no thrills but very consistent/practical manner, much like his overall play style.

Worst movement for a pro player probably goes to spartie, was awesome watching him in like 2009-10 crushing it in duel while running into walls and shit.

and I agree with puritan's comment above that now a days its much harder to distinguish players by their movement style/mouse movement compared to the old Q3 days. I think that generally you had a wider range of play styles you could utilize in the Q3 days but I associate that more so with the less even weapon balance allowing players to play more lg/rail/etc only and have their style revolve around their weapon choice (and the fact that mg damage was much higher allowing people to play more aggressively off the spawns), why it's harder to differentiate between different players movement style these days is something I can't account as to why that is the case considering you actually have more freedom in terms of movement and trick jumping possibilities.

lolz @ (optically) really nice movement in ql. the game is great, but once u've been into cpm or warsow there is nothing to see, movement whise (expect for the combat and dodge movement by top players ofc, but that's a skill on its own and not to be confused with movement capability I'd say.). hardly possible to do sth spectacular or use the "moment" creatively.

I think i have the most enjoyable movement, spec me in aerowalk or tox you'll see

and on the other end of the spectrum, unk1nd as the master of the characteristic high accel, low sens twitching, yet pleasant to watch style, you could call it russian style since it reminds me of lexer and cooller and the rest of russians, but unk1nd made it look the best imo. I loved how the guy shoot rockets while dodging. He had the sickest flick rails too.
I just wish he didn't turn into a trainwreck and stuck disciplined and healthy to keep training and competing at high level. Apparently after making so much money after winning WCG, he bought a ton of drugs or something. I think he could have been unstoppable if he was more dedicated and constant. Cooller once got asked about unk1nd's WCG performance and said he had luck... imo cooller was a bit mad at unk1nd, I saw tons of demos back in the day and he won most of the duels they played in close matches.

I like to think that someday q5 will be released and it will be as good as q3 and all those players will come back. I mean, if q4 made come back a ton of old school players being a shit game, imagine if the game was actually good. Apparently they did a decent job with the new doom game (at least sp wise), now they only need make q3 with better graphics, keep the duel intact and add new extra stuff to try to attract new players.
Lets not kid ourselves, we know we will all try the next quake if there is ever one. Even those people that have been missing for ages, i know they will at least download it and try it out for nostalgia's sake.

For real, toxjq's cfg anomaly made him have fingers on all 4 strafing directions, which allowed him precise and smooth direction changes at an abnormal speed.

The absolute majority uses 3 fingers for 4 strafing keys.
