Quake's finally dead now that id stopped supporting it. The only thing keeping it alive was the infrastructure around the id software servers and stats database.

If they charged a subscription fee to come here and say it's dead, that would keep it going for a few centuries. Amazes me how many people come to this forum to say that.

I don't defend idSoftware, i gave away my beloved Quake3Arena CD from '99 ...

There was a dedicated .nl server running the xmas maps in ACTF mode a little while ago, I'd hope that was still up.

No holiday-themed servers, no Silent Night, no Winter's Edge? That's sad. And for Halloween, we don't have the Mastermind.

The game has gone to crap since Id abandoned it to Steam and the community. No CTF, just CA. The odd FFA servers are always spamfests with 14+ players. Why doesn't anyone limit the FFA servers to 10 players or less?

Think about it for a minute, why blame id if the community doesn't seem to care about said servers?

Game has gone to crap in which sense? id is still hosting servers and updating it, are you saying it's crap because you load the game via another client?
No CTF? Why is id at fault here? Where is the CTF community? Why aren't CTF players hosting servers? Or joining one for that matter.

You pin many mistakes on id but this things are in the hands of the community now. Think you can do better? go on. Host a 10 slot FFA.

I'm pretty sure they don't host servers anymore... nobody used them anyway. Also if there are more updates they're gonna be minor bugfixes basically.

Well Sponge did update the mappack, but it seems nobody cared ...
