for the record, the game was awesome. it just took more skill than even quake duel to be excellent at.

What's your opinion on how many players used conc aim cheats? It seems easy to get away with, but I guess most good players had enough experience to do it well anyway. I played TFC for a few years when I was young and enjoyed it, but only pugged it a bit and got some hints of the competitive drama at the time before switching to ns.

In all honesty, I've never had a problem with conc shotty aim, and good HW's could always follow the spare tracer. I'd say more people probably did it than I think did, that's for sure. I never played a top tier player in North America that ever struggled with conc aim though. Much like recoil in CS, I think it became second nature for GOOD players. The 2k elo or higher players, so to speak.

This reminds me that TFC was at CPL one year. Do you know if there's any vids of that?

2 of the top NS teams were supposed to play at cpl one year and one of them didnt show for some reason so theres some funny pic somewhere of just one team with the dev at cpl.

Me and a couple other players actually avi'd the demos and made a mini CPL movie that was supposed to be inside a larger 'documentary' about TFC, tho last I heard the hard drive that all of this was located on was lost. If I got ahold of some people I could probably find the demos. Gotta patch up WON TFC up to the proper patch to play the demos.

most tfc videos were poorly encoded, there was never really a proper movie making software for TFC such as there was for Q3 like q3mme. mirvin_monkey coded mirv_demo_tools back in maybe 2005 or 2006, and it's growth lead to what is now Half Life Advanced Effects, the first legitimate movie making program for capturing out of TFC. Everything prior was CS 1.6 only.

As such, they look like dogshit on youtube. I'd highly suggest downloading the tfc avi's you might be interested in, as there are only probably 4-5 (Last Dionosaur 2, Vaimanika Shastra, myT1nK-TF.. okay only 3 or 4) that are properly encoded.

To my knowledge mirvs demo tools and HLAE are mostly for camera effects. The ability to dump full res bitmaps and audio and recompile it to an avi was always there, but it had more to do with it being the age of shitty computers, internet, and codecs. It was probably mainly just the players at the time making amateur videos. It's no coincidence that most of the vids have crappy numetal soundtracks and poor video quality

No doubt. I never saw a TFC video with in game sound until myT1nk.

But yeah, looking at old tutorials, grabbing scenes with an fps of 25-30 with no blur or any kind of hud cleanup unless you took ALL of the hud off.. definitely amateur days.

for the record, the Catacombs/Ozfortress plays of the week (POTW) were avi compilations of MOSTLY league play (team vs team, not random pickup games) and while ozfortress only made it to 16 or 17, the Catacombs spanned 1-86 and ranging in years from 2004?-2013. Game had a lot of life :)
