1v1 CA you can play the same person 100 times and you can never beat them. In duel you can start getting spawn frags, get lucky RNG spawns, shoot someone who has no armor and beat them. You also get the benefit of a snowbally gametype.

Duel requires a lot of practice, CA doesn't. Nobody even plays duel on the west coast in the US, so it's impossible to get actual practice. You would not realize that since you're euro.

I'm reasonably good in FFA, almost div2 in TDM (tho I played only like ~300 pickups so far) on better days.

I started dueling like a month ago on another account (still 38-40% lg average and not vs. vegetables), but I don't have delusions like you - I know that there's a long and steep road ahead of me and there are a shitton of people out there who are way better than me in it.
Fighting skills and damage dealing are already there, but metagame is not really sharp yet - but that will come with meticulous practice. Someday I might be somewhat good at it as well - or not. Time will tell.

If you had any logic, you'd realize that you should put your work into a game that isn't dead.
I don't care about your accs, I just bring them up if they are absurdly low. I have an alt with higher accs than that with games in duel.
You can acc whore all you want, it's a pointless metric at anything above 40%.

Also duel isn't a gametype I care about, so no destruction occurred. That's about as much as I care when someone beats me at a moba.

Everything you wrote seemed very good until i checked your profile....................... such an autistic statwhore. Especialy in a cool and noob friendly mode such a FFA, you are just destorying the hobby you supposedly like with this attitude. High-level FFA is not noob friendly, it's unforgiving as hell. It's a calculated race between those who are at roughly at the same level - with a chip of luck involved. I mean between people who actually have good fighting skills, cycling items, timing powerups and know spawns and can control areas.

It was before, at least. And classic servers with skilled people are still are - but those games are just simply rare. Waiting for a pickup game to start was like hours most of the time lately, not mentioning the fact that they were already scarce to begin with.
Most good players didn't want to play because it's unranked (which is ridiculous in itself - I mean "classic" being unranked) or because they had to wait a long time to get into the arena. Some of them migrated to 16 player loadout servers with ubershitty map pools, some of them started to play other modes and some of them even stopped playing completely. Because one "update".

If you are talking about real low skill and people who are incapable of using their mouse & keyboard at the same time - for them, every game mode is all the same if they are playing with each other and all the same if they are playing with better players. In the first case, they are probably having fun, in the latter case, they are getting obliterated, no matter what.

If you consider preferably checking the roster first (after checking the pickup channel for games) and looking for more capable players (and servers that has a map pool not limited only to Thunderstruck-sized maps with 16 players + loadouts), then joining the ones where the opposition seems stronger as "autistic statwhoring", it's your baguette preference.

After the loadouts, it just SEEMED to be noob friendly and besides some lucky vegetable spawns with insta 100 dmg rocket randomly to your back, it became even more easy to utterly destroy lesser players than before. Spawning with weapons, unified ammo packs + their reduced spawn times and item timers just made it helluva walk in the park. This have been discussed enough times already. Then again, thank the donut mongers for this.

I played around 2000 games like that and got fed up with the CoD-like supplements, rofltimers and such - and the absolutely zero challenge + constant whine most of the time, hence why I started dueling, mostly with friends only.

It's been confirmed rapha's aim is about average for an average tier 5 ca player, then he isn't special at all(in terms of aim). I don't care whatsoever about a gametype that revolves around 25+35 and memorizing spawns.

It's really not a hard concept to understand. I sent some videos of Rapha to a few UT players and they were surprised how someone with mediocre aim could become #1.

I finished 1st at some 4v4 CA cup quite long time ago aswell, can't remember the name of the cup, but still i did it. And some really good teams participated. But anyway i don't care much about 4v4 anymore. I prefer 1v1 or 2v2.

I also placed 2nd or 3rd at the weekly little faceit cups. But that was long time ago.

And btw i do not consider myself as the #1 CA player. I'm pretty good at it, but not the best. I play it only for fun cause i like it a lot. I don't care much about tournaments as long as i can have the best LG in practice games against good players :D

also because of my mental issues i just can't go to quakecon, but anyway even if i didn't have these mental issues i wouldn't have gone to quakecon 2013 to participate in the CA tournament because like i said already, i don't like 3v3 much, and roundlimit 7 + crap mappool is a joke really.

there is a 2v2 CA cup this sunday. Managed by URAZ, which means a guy who knows what he's doing. He's a real CA player and very good at it, not like some random russian dude who organized the GOTOP ca cup for example :D.

mappool will be : drunken thunder asy hells and window. So yeah, quite nice mappool actually. I only dislike asylum cause i get fps drops on it and because of the stairs and the limited space to dodge i'm not really good at it :). Also would've been fucking nice if the original hellsgate was replaced by hellsgateredux, which in every aspect is better than the original. I just dislike the void a lot (it's so random and everytime you end up in it cause a random rocket bounce made you fly into it lol, and that even if you try to avoid this kind of situation as much as you can, yeah, it's so random, happens like at least twice out of 10 rounds) and the fact that there's a huge slope at each side of the map making it difficult to get positional advantage for LG, so means that it's based quite a lot on rockets (also because of the huge pillars close to each slope). Also redux isn't symetrical which make it more interesting to play (different tactics etc) and if you want to play +back lg or rail there's more possibilities to do it than at the original hellsgate.

oh and also, roundlimit 10 ofc :).

these past months i've been changing mouse and config a lot, mainly for testing purpose, to see what suits me best. I think i figured out what works best for me only quite recently (some weeks ago), which mean that i won't change a single thing in my setup/config anymore, and that probably forever :)

been testing different crosshairs, different fov, different enemymodel, different mice. But i ended up with fov 90 (zoomfov 40), keel r_lodbias -2 and playerlean 0, crosshair 2 size large, and abyssus 2014 @ 1800dpi 500hz sensitivity 1 (23.5cm/360°, been playing for many months now with this sens, used to play on 32cm + kinzu v1 hardware accel to 29cm with old abyssus). Went back from original abyssus to zowie AM to zowie FK, to razer DA 2k13, to krait 2k13 and then finally to abyssus 2014 (been playing with it for some months now, and i don't feel the need to change mouse anymore, this one is just perfect for me).

so yeah all i can say is that i'm starting to get in shape slowly but surely. But i still feel that i need more practice to be at 100% of my capacities :), yeah yeah i know, it might sound arrogant/pretentious but still :) this is how it works for me actually.

Kicking the "lowest scoring player" only happens when there's an imbalance in the teams, I've never seen a vote to kick someone pass simply because someone sucks.

What I meant by nobody taking CA seriously is that it's one of the more casual modes in quake. There are almost no CA tournaments and there's no "CA pickup" like there is for FFA, TDM and CTF. I only like it because it's a good way to train my combat skills and it allows me to test a new sensitivity or smth in a low-pressure environment.

I've not played CA for a few years, so it must be better now.
I prefer duel and ffa, you can't be moaned at by some tit saying "GO BRIDGE" as his only tactical advice, just insulted, which i favor when warming up or wornout )

I think 90% of cypher's success is his reads. When he's in the flow it looks like he already knows how the next 10 seconds will play out. In control that means he'll catch you in all the bad spots and out of control it means you'll never even find him until he chooses to let you. It probably has something to do with how he processes information and him being confident enough to never doubt his reaction to the information.

Cypher's single main asset is his aim, coming from his outstanding reflexes and eye-hand coordination.

That's it, because he often does mistakes, sometimes big ones, more often things like strolling around hiding when he's in control, not pressing enough, or pressing too much and losing everything. But his aim (which is not only hitscan aim, he's one of the best with projectile weapons) allows him to pull it out most of the times.

Also his mindset, he rarely looks nervous even in the most desperate situations. On lan he isn't intimidated at all, by anybody.

he's successful to a degree that no other player has ever been at regaining control via creative, surprising, and unconventional attacks(probably because he has an excellent sense of somehow knowing his next sequence of shots WILL hit). he's the type of player who essentially will never play a full 10 minutes without control. it doesn't matter who he's playing because he will get control back somehow. other players have to wait carefully for either their opponent to make some kind of mistake or to go aggro after hitting a streak of rails or spam damage. cypher just goes for it and makes it work.

Great aim, great out of control play. Here's the thing though, unless hes been practicing a lot recently, he isn't aggressive. He doesn't go in for the kill when its obvious the opponent is a walking corpse and he knows where he is. Ive seen him lose a lot of matches by just running out of time to make a comeback, and the real problem was 7 minutes ago when he wasn't aggressive.

The other problem is when you're up against a player with great aim and movement, they can get from one side of the map to the other in about 5 seconds. You just cant hide against someone like that. Ever seen Evil or K1llsen when they're really on a tear? No one can hide (well maybe from k1llsen for awhile). But you just get run down and railed to death, or trapped. Being able to hide and evade your opponents is a great asset, but it becomes more of a liability when you're in a game of full speed quake.

Your analyses is pretty accurate. Its just that most people do not care how good a player is when he's not practicing, as was cypher the last 8 months basically. But when he is in shape his aim, execution and confidence will be on par with evil's. At that point you better run from cypher.

Exaclty. His out of control play and defense are awesome. Hs timing is always great to the point where he always is dangerous as far as stealing items and winning fights out of control. His reads on all the other players seem extremely high level as well. His defense rockets are usually great.

It's just when his aim is not on because he isn't playing enough that he starts to look kind of normal. I think that's why he gets so pissed sometimes, because he should be beating people but he just can't quite execute.

He's done plenty of sick shit previously. No question. But he's definitely hitting harder now - noticeably. I've watched him tonnes. He's hitting 40+ LG IN SPITE of his usual spam regularly now. Which means he's often hitting well over 50 in fights currently. His aim is sick at the moment. I'm glad he got a new monitor.
