The album is relaxing...but I don't want to fall asleep while listening to it...

I was disappointed at first too it doesnt have that kind of uncompromising power of past works. However, it is really good music that suits the theme of the album (too much) and the solo guitar still carries a lot of expression eventho not like in their best pieces. I always loved their instrumental masterpieces like Echoes or atom heart mother and the change from not so harmonic chords to very harmonic. Unfortunately they went pretty much full harmony this time. Still a very enjoyable album if you just listen with decent headphones imo

Maybe if you had listened to a Gorguts song that sounded like any of their other songs in the slightest, you'd have a point. They've even done full classical pieces. The album he cited as an example sounds nothing like Clouded. I would be more inclined to describe it as somewhere between Fallujah and Ulcerate, with many many more ups and downs/climaxes than either of them.

But for the sake of discussion (and because I <3 you), what is it you like about Fallujah's album? What is your take-away?

Unfortunately, the flesh prevails is not flawless, but it isn't nearly as bad as many people lead it on to be. I'll talk about what I dislike about the album first, namely the production. It often time sounds like there is zero depth, absolutely no resonance. It sounds flat and quite frankly, weak. This has undoubtedly fueled the dislike against the album more than anything. Secondly, triggered drums have always irked me and this is not an exception.

What I really enjoy about this album is how far it soars up, prime example being the three song perfection of "alone with you/allure/sapphire." hell you could even throw chemical caves down on that and make it four. The songwriting is good, as is the instrumentation obviously. I just wish it had more of the 'darker' progressive vibe of nomadic ep, "venom upon the blade" is probably the best thing they'll ever do

The problem with how far up the albums soars is that it hit its peak 2 minutes into the album, and it basically stays there. There are weaker parts, but they're never led or dropped off into. They feel kind of put in there and not really integrated.

All of the instrumentation is very skilled and technically proficient, but I don't hear anything that's really intuitive. It's all fairly cookie-cutter, the kinds of things music school would teach you to do without going on your own limb. I've listened to the album three times now and I can't find a drum beat that's not just there to fit.

The production can be considered an issue, but there's many examples of bad/weak/flat/computerized production with really big build ups and climaxes (and I do my best to not let it affect my judgement, it's the music that matters!)

Some examples being:
Animals as Leaders - Tempting Time
Indricothere - iii (the fake drums sound awful but the last two minutes are amazing).

Hell, you listen to God is an Astronaut, you know what a dynamic album with big climaxes sounds like!

I'll check those other releases out later.

Their first album The Harvest Wombs is pretty standard tech death and bored me to tears. the Nomadic ep really hits home and is what got me to get hyped for The Flesh Prevails. It's darker, has much better buildups, and in general is just better. I don't disagree with anything you said - I feel the second half of The Flesh Prevails is great and I'm stickin' to that story.

anyway, i'm salty as fuck when it comes to (new) music. ever since the internet got really pervasive, music kind of normalized globally in terms of new sounds. either people copy each other like crazy and end up sounding the same, or there's just too much of certain types of music and it's harder and harder to dig through it.

If they can release Crack the Skye with the vocal melodies of The Hunter or OMATS, it could be a contender for best album ever made.
