This is the mod I've played for my first few months of online FPS experience. I was such a noob back then and was unaware that Lithium had air control (if I even knew what that meant back then). Infact, every time I tried to get that "red laser" (hook) I typed +hook and then -hook in console. Oh...good times.

i think the most important aspect of a casual-friendly game mode is that there has to be a very clear objective that players can immediately understand.

stuff like item control, powerup timing etc in something like tdm is not obvious enough for completely new players. game modes like domination or a rush/bomb type mode on the other hand should be instantly intuitive to them (variants of domination are pretty much the de-facto standard game mode in all modern fps games).

bottom line is, casual players need to have an objective (capture control points, set the bomb, etc) that they can work towards and succeed in accomplishing, despite not having the best combat skills or a deep understanding of the deathmatch metagame.

It's quite comparable if you play cs surf, whereas the acceleration is not the main thing, there's lots of air control going on even more than in cpm defrag.

You can be the best cs player in the world and not know any of it though, so it's irrelevant.

Well, let's forget that argument for a moment then and move to yours. CS movement is complex in it's own way, just because it doesn't have acceleration, doesn't mean it's without skill curve. CS 1.6 does have acceleration btw and bunnyhopping is much harder than in QL/vQ3 where no timing is required as you can just hold jump key and jump immediately on contact with floor. As for your previous comment, you can in same way be in midst of top duelers in QL while having nothing on middle tier defraggers.

In CS, meanwhile, you can literally do no jumps and be okay almost always. If you need any, it's just rare cases. The fact that you didn't appreciate this at the start kind of makes you out to be willfully ignorant.

In CS good movement becomes part of the arsenal in combat, it's not about jumping and speeding around maps as much as it is about evading and being able to shoot at the same time, which as you know is much harder with the engine interruptions. While it may not be much, there are several areas where experienced bunnyhopper can make a significant difference.

You need to stop being so selfish and think of how the people closest to you feel like. I'm sure your sex life would improve exponentially if you had air control in real life.

It has to be something without picking necessary to play items at the start, like weapons and armor. That's just how casual, main gametypes have to be. Could still have other items though, like picking up more ammo or different (not better) weapons, maybe some big item as an objective (QL's CA would be much better with quad respawning every 2 minutes) and so on.

I actually quite like warsow's bomb mode (only good thing about that abomination).

And an always overseen aspect of AQ2 was that every start of the round was pretty much pulling off some trickjump, whether individual or with team help, which is fun. That aspect just doesn't exist in Q3, QL, CPM, etc. because of rocket jumps, while it still does in CS:GO.

Something like Rocket Olympics would be very fun (original was by OSP).

Only gamemode I can remember was HeadHunters from q3, it was awesome :)

Why not an adaptation of CS, a mode with rounds where both teams spawn at their specific spawn points on the map (CA stack + weapons) and the Ts need to get a bomb on one of the CT's bomb sites? Scratch the buy+economy aspect (or keep it in?), implement smokes+flashes if you want and design maps accordingly.

edit: and of course non-team based arena with 1 minute roundlimit. and clan arena without rounds. And Arena without either rounds or teams. Just shoot dudes.

you hold the flag and run around with it. the longer you hold it, the more points you get. Its not a fixed location you have to stand in

I only tried this mode in halo which is a slow as fuck game but I imagine in reflex there will be plenty of rocket jump escapes, hiding by teleporters, all that good shit

I mostly intend to play reflex for the ctf, but this will be great too

I think that two things are important in a casual mode and help newbs to have fun: it should be round based and have clear objectives beyond just fragging.
So my list of casual friendly modes would be:
Clan Arena - the simplest mode really.
CTFS - clan arena with flags! Very good mode actually, fun as 3v3 and 7v7. Unlike CTF it's roundbased so it prevents heavy snowballing.
Bomb - warsows bomb mode pretty much.
A non round based mode that'd be fun is Domination.

Also add a bunch of less serious modes to have stupid fun in:
Midair
Tag
Football or basketball
Juggernaut
etc

Race mode with maps that are just for big speeds and big jumps and not perfect technique. Slides/surfs too.

Have an option for grappling hook and swinging hook somewhere, those are just too fun!

a mode with full aircontrol, retarded rocket knockback, insta weapon switch, tiered armours and literally no need to think would be kewl.

Personally I think this is the only game that has potential now. The in game map editor, the right devs, the community. It's the first time in years that I have absolutely no reason to worry how the game will turn out. In short this game is going to give us what the old quake games have offered for years. We're moving forward now and the devs will carry us to endless heights.

one flag CTF, it spawns in the middle of the map and u need to score in enemy base. Once you capture another round stars. You will always spawn your own base.

- there's collision, you can make the other guy fail by pushing or so
- u play LIVE against another guy, u need to be fast and precise in that particular moment, no offline play.
(i dont want to remove defrag with this, i'd like to have player interaction in here too, as another gametype)

i think the closed circuit type thing could be fun, with mariokart type inspired stuff. combining the movement (ramps, slides etc) would be alot of fun with some easy combat would be fun!
