I understand all your points except for the slowness/system resource part. it was quite a piece of shit indeed but i've not experienced any of that a long while ago.

i used to have issues with it 5-6 years ago with an athlon 4400+ 2gb ddr2 + IDE hdd + some shitty ati vga setup, when i had to shut all steam windows down to keep cs:s running at stable 100fps.

btw currently even my crap laptop runs ql at 150fps while steam is open in the background.

well just got the idea that he might have been looking at applications tab only in which case i just wasted an hour of my life again :D tho it seems like more folks have similar issues with the new client so there might be some bugs left in there causing this.

Just a warning, once you go Steam, there is no going back to the stand alone, I have a friend who has some issue with his steam at the moment, and can't get into to quake after trying to revert back to the standalone.

I get an error in the following case:
1. alt + enter to shrink QL
2. Close QL (cross at the top)
3. Immediately try to exit Steam

It complains that QL is still running, have to wait a minute then it will close

This is the only problem I've had but I blame QL for it rather than Steam

Is it complaining it's running, or is it just saying "Finishing cloud sync..." ?

Running. I sometimes get the cloud sync after I've waited a while after closing QL though

So it does for me, there was a guy on my home country's community page who was adamant on solving it w/o a reset, i asked here in his name after the steam release.
