Yeah, I think this is the major concern. 8 laptops (plus a few PCs of some nearby participants, who may or may not share with other players) means that people would be primarily hang out in the social area, while the admins have to be a bit smart with the schedule etc. The tournament would get done, but it definitely means less play time than in Prague, and possibly more beer.

Agreed, no point to hurry 'just to make it'. Prague LAN was completely arranged and this Belgium LAN lacks many details which should be sorted out within 2 months which is not enough. I mean not enough PCs(and the fact that current ones are laptops), no monitors(and you need the ones with displayport in case of using these laptops), unclear prizepool, etc. I'm not even talking about stuff like visas, tickets, appartment booking and other problems that teams have to solve within 2 months(and several people I know who planned to go to Prague already know that they cant go to Belgium since they cant get a day off or shit like that)

The preparations have been ongoing since november last year. It's a LAN with more than just Quake, those things are ticking along quite nicely and Quake Live was always intended to be included. Reason for late announcement was the fact that the sponsor of 16 PC's with 120hz monitors withdrew moments before the announcement and we have been looking for solutions ever since.

Everything is sorted out on our end besides the unfortunate situation with the PC's/laptops.

We made the entry ticket a fixed price to assure players that they won't be contributing to the prizepool of other games, this ticket covers the costs on our end, no more no less. On top of that we throw in 200 Euro for the prizepool and went looking for nearby accomodation. Considering our audience is usually from within the BeNeLux this has been specially for the long distance travelers.

What details do you require, I am available to help anyone out. We have a discount deal with the nearest hotel (located at the other end of the trainstation), for which I'm writing the summary right now.

Why would you not just organize a different seperate ql event in for example Outpost in Antwerp?

They have the infrastructure and are generally very supportive of organizing events.

I know it wouldn't be under the Storm "brandname" but i dont think Storm itself benefits much from having Quake Live present anyway.

i'm not sure why so many of u seem to take shit so srsly. it's about meeting up with ppl , having some fun together and playing/competing a bit in a beloved game. in that order, no? idk why guys act as if it was majourly about holding a professional competition that needs 1337 preparation. thought the scene was old and dead enough anyway to be rather looking forward on a meetup than staging own skills to the max and pretending it s a super srs competition. but maybe older guys don't look forward so much on meeting up with some other gamers, and being able to play as good as possible is more important, idk.

however, i hope 120hz monitors and ultimate hardware is not rlly what tdm lans are about

because its much much better to have 1 great event per year that has flawless execution than 2 smaller events. you dont seem to realize people have extremely limited "action points" for quake lans per year, no one will go to more than 1 on his own dime. that's why less is more

lets say 24 people go to this event, most of those wont come to the next prague style lan and that event will end up being smaller than expected, thus letting down expectations. then next year hype will be smaller, people wont be as interested etc. its an extremely simple concept, not hard to grasp

i didn't tell any1 to host 12 lans instead, was just pointing out to the imo extraoridnary exagerated drama thats being made about (hardware) preparation. almost 2months too little time to finish preparation for 1337 ql "amateur" lans, lolz.

it's not about game preparation. Booking shit, buying tickets and applying for visa is not an easy process from outside of EU

Botkamp and Outpost did not want to support Quake Live at our event. Organizing at those places will also always default to a community event that has a ceiling in growth whereas we want to do more around Quake in the future and fully support it.
