Ok, I admit i don't know shit about teammode competitive scene but why would you say an online cup with prizes is a bad thing?

I suppose because its too competitive while most people playing are casuals.

Dunno, TDM mode seems designed to kill any kind of non competitive activity to me.

TDM alone is already suffering with not too many players and all-star lineups, when there's money on the line, or on this case, products which have monetary value, even more of those tend to rise, ONLY to win the prizes. Reward the community who's there in wet and cold, not those who only pop in when there's something to take.

But, isn't what haveing a competiitive scene is all about having top players on top and the rest to follow? Isn't the only sane outcome of a cup to have the best players come first? I mean, if for you fun is the most important thing you might as well ask for pickups running 24/7 (which you already have afaik) and maybe some more draft cups.

If all star teams are really a big deal to you I suggest you to leave l0wfly and carry a team made of you + 3 n00bs "just for the fun". But i suspect that if i told you this you would rightfully tel me to fuck off, just like i would if i were a top tdm player.

There's not enough of a TDM community willing to compete to have players chasing the top, the top is set and will be set, a colwn and/or Salivating Monstah's put together will take down even the warmest 102.

And l0wfly has never been an allstar grabbing team, we DID ask fearzz before he joined neu, but turned him down because he wanted to play with cas, and we didn't want both. We've been about equal talent to our own and sharing the same humor and spirit as the rest of us, so no, we're no allstar team, far from it.

And I'm saying, the community is damaged enough as it is, the last thing a TDM tournament needs is prizes to spawn elite teams by people who usually does nothing for the community only to grab them and leave again.

The reason why there is 'not enough TDM community' and why community is 'damaged', is very simple:

There is no active leagues. Or let me rephrase: wasn't active leagues until now (after CB died).

Without leagues, teams are dissolving as there are no more pcws, and all players are left with are pickups (which is actually a good thing, don't get me wrong, but it's not enough by itself).

As you already know, with CB downfall, new leagues have emerged (this is 3rd season announced this spring, besides HoQ and basearena), which should only restore the long lost clan war mentality and will put TDM (and other team modes) back in the first row again.

Therefore, prizes can only help forming of quality teams who will try to contest for the higher spots and actually make teams join the leagues in the first place with some motivation to begin with.

You need to look at the bigger picture here.

forming of TOP quality teams isnt what we need right now though, and has never been the issue with qltdm but the lack of a big active team pool. 2 euromix teams are currently hogging about 10 players who could each have a team of their own who could be competitive and boost the activity of the scene. now they are all clumped in 2 teams and probably quite a lot of decent players are going "well we cant get a team that's even remotely capable of challenging these guys" and im not suggesting people to split from their established teams but do they really need to hog more players? but to have a quality scene we need established good players to form with people who arent SUPER high level.

and only one who was an established star in lowfly when it started was silencep and im not sure if anyone else is even a star? maybe funnyb for his :DICKS antics and popularity more than anything else.

we basicly need MORE teams and a healthy enviroment for them to prosper: pickup, tournaments and an active pcw scene

So basically what I said. An active pool of practising teams can only happen now when we have active leagues. And throwing in some prizes can also help mid quality teams to get one more better player and to contest for the top spot (having 8 players in a top team wont help them with prizes either as not every member of that clan will receive prize; therefore some of those top players might join some other mid-to-high skilled team and hope to win).

Well some teams prolly hog more players than they need because they need backups in case someone can't make it. Times are changing, existing players got older, have jobs and families.


But anyway, i have yet to see the same attempt with bringing in new players as they did with QuakeWorld.
New (lesser skilled) teams find it discouraging when faced against much better opponents (aim and team play wise).

You basically need the so called noob division/cup where perhaps only one experienced player (i mean like div2 not some div1 pro) per team would be allowed to play with (he could also guide those new players). Keep the maplist simple (3 maps) for start and write up a guide on how to play them (tactics, timing,.). Include links to configs, demos (or YT videos) to help them out as well. Of course the most important part would be advertising the hell out of it (help from sync?).

That sounds sane. Atm it's mostly old school teams or ctfers playing lowest div, who have no aspiration to actually compete with similar skilled teams.

I think the community needs tournaments to even have a chance, without them we will not get more player or more activity. Not here to say the community is great at this moment comparing to previous seasons. But this is not a bad thing!

I don't think having a tournament is bad, absolutely not. But as I said in my comment to myself, if anything, announce the prizes when signups have closed if anything, to reward those who actually play within and for the community, and not the single-team joining prizegrabbers who comes and goes and does nothing good to the TDM community in itself.

If your premade team cant win vs 4 randoms, then you dont deserve any kind of prize. And if you announce prizes after registration is closed you risk having half as many teams.

It's not that I think we'd win anyway, it's just how it's always been.

More teams => more attention from sponsors => more tournaments. Wrecking by other teams can be fixed by good seedings. And btw those one-day-teams are also part of the community.

You work yourself up from the ground, not the other way around. These teams that'll sign only due to prizes, won't last.
