Well, since you refer to top-level players, I assume you mean that watching can seem dry, sometimes, as opposed to just playing dry matches against people at lower level?

If that's the case, then, yes it can seem slow and boring sometimes. But I think it's not this way constantly. For me, I'd rather have a pro map to watch that ends 4:3 or something like this than one that ends 32:17 or something. I enjoy frags having meaning and watching what the pros do to build towards a come-from-behind frag while they stay alive vs. another pro of their own level!

Fast and slow maps can also be nail-biting, as long as it is not a blowout of 30-12 or something like this. Fast play-style, though, makes for more possible mistakes and we have all seen what a top-level dueler can do to punish even the smallest mistake against a similarly-skilled opponent.

I think that's why they slow down, sometimes. Because they know that the simplest mistake can really mess them over and cost the match and that super-fast playing causes aiming and mental errors.

Yes somewhat to the first question only (scores arent too low and nothing is wrong with the weapons, I think it feels a bit lame due to other factors). Thats why I play TDM.

Well, the timelimit is 5mins shorter than it used to be in q3, so naturally people prefer the safe item play, as theres simply less room to mess up.

Ad RL - I actually think the bounce / knockback should be increased to be the same as in OSP.
Dreamhack only proved that lg is the most used and abused weapon there is. Im not saying its unbalanced or too strong, but with the unfinished/fucked up netcode and hit detection, its the most stable & constant dmg source. Its also one of the main reasons why people willingly turn themselves into clumsy lowsens tanks.
Having a better RL would mean less disadvantage online when fightining against hitscan and could also lead to possibly more aggressive plays.

ye, lg can be abused but RL really stops pushes. Also now you see people having 60% lg use and actually winning alot cuz of the aim they have with lg after using it so much..

Isn't that the whole idea behind the weapon? You take the chance of not necessarily doing as much burst damage as with a direct rocket or a rail but guarantee yourself to at least do some damage since it has a much faster fire rate? If the netcode changed wouldn't it still be the most "stable & constant dmg source"?

Just because you played a duel ( for once) which ended 8-1 on dm6, since you faced lesser opponenet (1000 elo) vs you (1300 elo). doesnt mean QL is boring.

first of all, the match you are refering to was played on old hitboxes and rockets, which made +backing very effective.

nowadays the frag ratio on most of slower maps would be around 1/minute[blind guess, gotta do some research :D] which is ok

actually the weapon balance is very close to perfection

stronger rockets (more bounce/more knockback) would make the game imbalanced
cause atm the rl is a very strong weapon overall, especially when used in addition to +back

rail 100dmgs would even be more OP, if you want 100dmgs and huge hitboxes, it's time to install osp or cpma :D

if scores often end up with 3:2 it's not because of the weapons, but rather because of the gameplay/maps (vq3 + slow maps = low scores)

seems like you're kind of frustrated of the vq3 gameplay, this gameplay actually doesn't really favor high scores games (except maybe on aerowalk or toxicity), so if you don't like it, there's nothing else you can do appart from playing CPM/Warsow/QW

quakelive gameplay is quakelive gameplay, deal with it. If you don't like it, it's time to install quakeworld, cpm or warsow :)

In your opinions, do CPM rapemaps improve QL duel gameplay? I'm noticing how all of the new duel maps being introduced look like they were made for Clan Arena...and I'm wondering if that's tarnishing the gameplay for people.

I don't get to duel enough to really form an opinion on this subject.

i'd enjoy bigger bounces with rockets. rl is already very strong, with q3 bounces it would be almost overpowered. but i'd like dat.

q3 rockets weren't as bad because the splash was limited from 1-80 damage not 1-99. and ql rockets are "stronger" in a sense of direct knockback due to them adjusting it so rocket jumping is easier.

The rocket jumps are one thing that always fucks with me when I switch back and forth between ql and cpm.

dunno i thought:
-ql rockets are faster than q3's by 100 ups
-q3 rocket bounce was stronger hence somehow compensating for the first thing cuz even if slower rockets>bigger bounce>easier to hit

I believe that the splash radius is larger in q3, but there is less overall knockback. not 100% but it seems correct from what I can recall

as long as there are specific situations in which it is best to use one particular weapon, and those exist for every weapon it's fine.
