Seriously though, see some of the pros configs. Generally you want the graphics as clear as possible, so removing all the junk that is "aesthetics" helps you see and shoot better. I'd recommend cooller's config since it is pretty simple: http://team102.ru/cfg/0.zip

Graphics maybe, but everything else is an overcomplicated mindfuck.

What I did was to use the performance config preset available in the game options, and slightly modified it to match my needs. There is also a "competition" preset.

yeah the ingame menus are pretty extensive, i just use them now.

could you explain why?

lower fov = less elements to render

it could be, but why r_picmip doesn't affect fps for the same reason then

picmip affects the fps a bit - and elements are still rendered, just with less details.

There are just as many elements to render when you change r_picmip. It will only apply different textures (well, the same but mipmaped).

I downloaded stermys config and modified it. But its all choice. When I was at LAN, no other config looked like mine, because of picmip 6 and lightmap lightning. The russian style of configs (I just call it like that) most likely comes from old lightning configuration. I like lightmap since you can spot a green model even on silence :D

I also use stermy's look. It's actually just the default graphics with picmip 6.

I'm not going to go into graphics, as that is covered. What I would like to cover is using the correct mouse settings, using m_cpi

If you aren't transferring settings, now is the perfect time to start using it, and I find I prefer it a hell of a lot.

Basically m_cpi must be set to your mouse dpi, after that set your sens to around 16/17 (about sens 5 on 400dpi without using m_cpi) and accel to 0. Then move it up and down as you prefer.

Using this makes your life easy when changing mice, dpi and even trying out other peoples configs. I use the below formula for putting peoples sensitivities into the same format I am using, then you get a more accurate idea of how people play.

new_sens = old_sens * (old_yaw * m_cpi / 2.54)
new_accel = old_accel * ( old_yaw * (m_cpi/2.54)^2 ) / 1000

What monitor do you have?

Stermy graphics settings are a good start because you dont need to adjust them throughout various maps. His mouse settings are realy good too for a starter. around 20cm for a 360 with no accel with a 450 dpi mouse, but you should change from his cfg :

M_filter 1 -> 0
cg_filter_angles -> 0
and delet his binds
