firstly about how fucked up america is. what kind of fucked up community watch scheme has people patrolling with guns

secondly conflicting stories. first thing i read was a black guy walking in the rain with a hood...but this sounds a bit dodgy because theres no motive to kill (although americans are crazy & probably dont need a reason). second story reckons the guy somehow got into a fight with him then he pulled the trigger cos the black guy was reaching for the gun. nobody really knows the truth~ obviously we need more cameras so we can watch drama like this on youtube

I thought that this event had an interesting parallel with rape.

With the Trayvon Martin incident, Zimmerman was doing something that he should not have been doing. He caused the situation that led to Trayvon's death unnecessarily.

It's likely that Trayvon was way out of line beating Zimmerman so much, far more than was necessary for Trayvon to defend himself and escape from what he may have interpreted as an attack from a random lunatic.

It may have very well been self defense for Zimmerman to shoot him as arguably his life may very well have been in danger. It's a situation that he caused though, and for that I think he should share some blame.

Maybe a wrongful death suit will make for some justice, I don't know. Zimmerman getting off scott-free though isn't justice imo.

Even though this is a slippery slope in blaming the victim, I think there was definitely some provocation there. He had called police, but did he wait for them to arrive? No. He was asked to stopped following him, did he? No. "We don't need you to do that" is cop language for "don't do that" to me, and the way Zim said "kay" makes it clear to me that he understood.

Zimmerman left this car to look for where the "suspicious" person (Travyon Martin) had went to give directions to the police. After Zimmerman went to look for Martin the 911-dispatcher (which by the way does not have any legal authority to issue commands) asked Zimmerman whether he was following the man to which he replied "Yeah". The dispatcher then said "We don't need you to do that" to which Zimmerman replied "Ok." and stopped looking for which direction Martin had gone. Then Martin jumps him (after a short conversation) and after 40-45 seconds which consist of:
- Martin breaking Zimmerman's nose (a misdemeanor/felony)
- Martin assaulting Zimmerman AFTER he is already on the ground, stomping his head to the ground (felony battery)
- Verbally threatened to kill Zimmerman (and supposedly reaching for Zimmerman's gun)

Now who really put whose life in danger?

What was he doing that he shouldn't have been doing? The operator didn't seem too concerned when he/she knew Zimmerman was out of the car. All they said is "we don't need you to do that." That doesn't sound like, "Stay in your vehicle sir" to me. I remember some years back a guy in Texas called 911 when two men were robbing the house next-door. It's been a while but I could've sworn the operator clearly told the guy several times not to go outside and do not confront them. But he did and the case never went to trial. I don't think disobeying a 911 operator alone is a criminal action.
