It's a NA duel tourney featuring QUAKECON maps with dm6 added. 2 new maps not in the QUAKECON list can be voted in but can be turned down by the opponent with 3 votes to turn down a map.

yeah we're uber excited, NA is really missing out and we're stoked to have a NA comp. We're currently looking for someone to stream the tourney. I might be able to set things up here but haven't streamed before, hopefully wont mess things up, I'm worried about my connect it goes out sometimes

700 - 200 - 100 is WAY too top heavy.. I think, to make it a bit more fair, so something like previous tourney's did back before my time.. Like, 500 for first, 300 for second, 150 for third, then split the remaining 200 with 4 - 7th? Maybe 75 for 4th 50 for 5th - 6th and 25 for 7th...

Yeah I understand 700 makes for awesome competition, but to get more people to come out, I'd think giving the top 4 - 7th a little something would do some good. Something we've seen too little of. I doubt anyone would complain getting 500 from an online tourney.

Anyway, great job. This is what the ql NA scene needs. Very much so!

Yeah, true.. That's why I said that about 700, however, thinking about it in a community perspective. It would kind of discourage a lot of the other players who aren't top 3 material from competing. I mean, if there is nothing but 2k elo players placing top 3, and some 1.5k - 1.8k elo players who place top 10, eventually they'll stop playing since it's inevitable that they can't place higher unless let's say one 2 or all 3 2k elo players drop from the tourney (which would be highly unlikely for a 700 dollar top prize.)

25 bucks would give that winner hopes in wanting to improve and do better and later possibly receive 50 dollars, then come again and get 75, and eventually - hopefully with loads of dedication - be good enough to compete for the nice 500 - 300 dollar payouts. I'd rather see that then see the same 3 winning. You seen how amazing it was to see evil take Dreamhack in 2k12. New blood winning is always good motivation.

-Edit- I know evil is slightly old school, but he's new to qlive and his name isn't as heard as let's say Rapha or Cypher, who have won the past 5 dreamhacks minus 2012.

what you're saying is particularly true for NA though. after all, we all know that the final is going to be rapha vs dahang 90% of the time and they probably won't pass on making 200$+ for a night of playing. so in terms of turn ups it'd definitely make sense to have prizes for top 4 or even top 8.

Back in 2001, there was a huge prize distribution, and even dropping each places prize a bit and distributing it to the lower places, they'd have a bit more success in getting a higher turnout..
Bad example since this was in '01, but still.. 1st place prize money dropped considerably in the years. Not enough support.

My goodness this is irrelevant now that I think about it, but I'm guessing I'm the only one to understand, giving top 7 or even top 10 prizes instead of just top 3, will yield more people wanting to play, and more people competing for top spots.

Guessing kickoff means that's when signups open, and the tourney will probably be held this weekend. At least that's what i'm hoping :D

I suggest you have the players sign up because then they can advance the brackets themselves if you do the brackets they will all have to be done manually by yourself bind_

Lol, same 2-3 players win, the NA scene dies some more. If you really want to jump start the NA scene stop allowing the same people to win easy money, you might as well split it 50/50 to Rapha and DaHang ... I don't understand how this is so difficult to understand. Also the excuse of "this will encourage more players to practice!!1!" ... no it wont, it hasn't worked so far and it won't work this time around either.

There are players in the na scene that can beat those two, just they don't play in tourney's or have time to.

I really don't honestly agree here. There are a few, but playing rapha in practice is entirely different from a tournament game, even just an online one. There is a huge divide from pro to the rest of us in NA, which is why it's so consistently rapha vs dahang finals for every tournament.

Of course it's different playing vs them in a tournament. Their composure vs anyone else's is different ultimately putting the lesser known player at a disadvantage due to mistakes, shakes, etc. That doesn't mean no one can beat them.

If you are referring to the Faceit events there has only been 6 N.A. events so far this year and other then myself hosting the occasional live one off event there has not been anything close to what the European scene has continually been given over the last 5 years. N.A. needs a consistent tournament organizer that sticks with it and keeps doing events and that is something that just has never happened. Europe has had the lvl, zotac and now the faceit and 125fps events consistently for years with cash prizes each week. N.A. has had nothing in regards to consistent events so seeing an influx of cash events in N.A. for the QL scene is a good thing and yes it does promote activity. If it didnt well I am pretty sure the EU scene would not be going as strong as it is today.

NA does not have the playerbase anymore for that kind of tournaments to happen. this was a good idea 3 years ago, but as you said it never happened.

Considering the turnout for the Faceit events compared to the EU events both faceit and 125fps, I'd say the numbers are equal. Give NA players a reason to participate, and it'll happen. Don't give us a 15 dollar 1st prize tourney.

I'm a huge QUAKE fan, I first saw zero4 play @ QUAKECON 08, I was in the far back yelling drunk ;D, the night before QUAKECON 08 I played with my sisters boyfriend at the time named eyeKandy, was a lot of fun. I used to snowboard and have wanted to sponsor events with my family bizz, clothing and euro fashion [liza bruce]

We'd would have liked to be at QUAKECON with a booth but we don't have the moneys to sponsor the event this year, and didn't know if we could take the high orders that would come after (possibly next year) so we thought having this tourney might be some fun for my love of quake and for players who might want to train up for QUAKECON

I'm looking to build this up over the next few years with my clothing company and start getting a NA tournament scene, online first, then a merge to LAN later down the road

Apparition is doing what he can, Jehar/easytarget don't appear to be online.

He is trying indeed, but he does not seem to have the resources really. The picture quality is horrific as well as the sound.

He can very well be a great caster who could cast matches based on screenshots alone, as it is now pretty much, but if I cannot hear him it is no good.

Only 40 people watching... shame, shame... this had to be more in major front news(and announce earlier) so people can know about it and watch....

I tried to watch some when it started but audio on apparition's stream endangered my sanity in a matter of minutes (no offence) and there was no vo0 stream at that time so I gave up. also before i checked esr that night I completely forgot about this one. and I have a pretty good memory. so tips for possible future are the same I dropped for nico when 125fps rebranded into a league: shout, inform, be consistent and adamant with the info and hype and secure a solid, entertaining stream. the fact that vo0 is streaming now is a godsend cause he is capable of drawing in euros for staying late and supporting the viewership. If I had known he'll be streaming I'd definitely stick around.
