Uff.. quite frankly I must admit that I think the ad copy sucks.

The concept for ARTIFACT: RED-X came about out of the frustration of not getting much enjoyment out of the more modern squad based strategy games. The latest release of one of these sci-fi themed games was ok but personally it lacked many of the features that made the original version such an incredible game to play. This game is not alone, the list of terrible squad based tactical games that 'suck' is a long one.

Entirely negative. Everything is shit in recent times, so you got in. Is that the story? Don't you have any spark, any positive inspiration of your own? You know maybe reviving the genre while avoiding the pitfalls of 'casualisation' which have plagued these games for so long, noticing the dissatisfaction within the community. Who do you want to reach?

The vision of ARTIFACT: RED-X is to create a hybrid real time empire-style builder with turn based squad tactical combat that is influenced by classic RPG systems. The role of the player is that of the invading enemy, where they must conquer an alien planet that they have selected themselves. The real time main gaming view of ARTIFACT: RED-X will use an adaption of the traditional tabletop-style board game mechanics.Each tile or hexagon will have resources and terrain attributes which will help or hinder the player's progression.The turn-based squad tactical view will also be divided into tiles and provide strategic advantages and disadvantages.

YOUR ROLE AS THE PLAYER IS X, why be so impersonal? And I'm the "invading enemy"? lol. Idk. Something more like "You the player is in charge of conquering alien planets, using [traditional tabletop-style board game mechanics]. Wide and complex maps will feature unique [something]. Each individual tile will have its own resources and terrain attributes having a direct effect on [...]" So far this just reads like quick notes you did for yourself on what you want to your game to be like.

To me it's just too choppy and confused. And after this two paragraphs long "introduction" you immediately go off to tell about the story, which seems to me irrelevant to your conception of the game thus far? And instead of telling about the game itself? And then you tell everyone that you basically have no real idea of the story and everyone will be able to chip in? This is a bad idea in itself, besides that it suggests that you have no real idea of what you're doing (not that's the case, that was just the impression that I got). And at least sell it somewhat interesting "pledgers will be involved in the crafting of story-driven missions and brainstorming-sessions with the developers", something like that.

Hope you can see where I'm coming from and there's something valuable in my critique for you. Also take into account that I'm not aware of the actual game. I read up to about 1/3-1/2 of the copy and found it up till then subpar. Wish you guys the best.


P.S. I know that you're not involved and I wrote this first as a general reply, but then it seemed to me it would be more fitting as a reply to this post.

Yeah I agree with you, my friend has been trying to get into the gaming market for a while now and he has only ever copied other shit. He has never cared about story or trying to do something new or unique. This is why I didnt really want to help him advertise his game. His goal is to make money and so he tries every shortcut he can do to make it fast. Just like any profession if you do it because you love it money will come naturally, if you do something for money it shows.

First let me say thank you for this Aeol! also thanks for the interest from you guys coming to check it out.

Also we are half done, im making a video to explain this in more detail. The engine is written and since this is not a AAA title or a AA or an A in terms of content and we are getting most of the assets outsourced, it comes to a surprisingly low figure. The rest of the art will be made in house and since we do other projects for our bread & butter, this game is being made not for a profit (on KS) but for the sake of making a really good strategy game,

Once we release the KS version, we will then consider a retail release, depending on how the reviews go.

hmm, saw the guy talking, skipped through the video, saw no gameplay scenes at all and close the site, just made a short glimpse at the text ...
so the gameplay is orientated at classical xcom ufo?
that's nice, I think we are going to see many xcom type of games released soon, looking at the success xcom enemy unknown had, which is nice, because I am actually a XCom fan ...
there is also a shadowrun game coming out soon that has xcom orientated gameplay ... when I talk about xcom I mainly mean the roundbased combat system in isometricla perspective with many team members and energy points to give for actions ...
o.k. back to topic, no actual gameplay => I don't care ... well not that I didn't care, but I wouldn't spend my money ... it's like being in a big cantine, deciding for a menu just based on the name they give to it ... gotta see first what it really is made like
