Incorrect. It almost always matters how you say stuff. That's why people with autism and related diseases have so much difficulty interacting with others - they have reasonable thoughts, but the way they present them (i.e., how they say it) can be very difficult for "normal" people to receive.

Now, I'm not saying anybody here is autistic, just trying to illustrate the fact that it does matter how you say things, because others will base their opinion of you on the things you say and do.

All that said...the brief snippet of convo between Jiggly and Rapha simply looks like it's being blown out of proportion. There probably is some history there, and maybe Rapha wasn't having the best day. Whatever it was, the fact that he said "waste of time" isn't that big a deal and overall, he may have come off as a bit impolite in this situation, but in general, he's proven himself to be consistently reasonable and polite.

So why did Jiggly make a post about this? Childishness - get over it, Jiggly (I'm with you on that part, aomame).

Interesting idea. But "people in his own ELO range" = approximately the top 70 players in the world (down to around 2100 ELO). Of those 70, there are probably about 30 within reasonable ping range. So saying, "he should focus on playing people in his ELO range" is like saying "he should limit his opponents to around 30 out of the total 60,000+ players in Quake Live. In my view, that's pretty limiting, so that when he's ready to play quake (i.e., just did blow :PPP), there's a tiny chance that he'll actually have a decent opponent. Doesn't seem like much fun to me :/

no pro plays only pros. casual games with noobs wont make your game worse. not even constantly playing noobs on pubs, ca etc., doesnt make you worse, if u focus on what u wanna train in that instance (aim, dodge, position etc) and if u are aware of your game and what ur doing. only extreme example i can think of of playing noobs only (or too much) in duel is tox, which i agree can be detrimental. he focuses on aim and damage vs weaker guys and when he gets to play a pro that times, dodges, spams right and knows what weapons work when, bad things happen for the toxinator.
tl;dr rapha will still be rapha even after 2 weeks of ffa with fatality and jigglybbigly
killsen will still be aim only, even if he plays 200 practice duels in a row with cooller before a lan

like, imo, cooller will never be better than he was/is, he'll never best rapha/cypher. avek will always emo fail vs rapha (even tho the pole is amazing, a 'warmup monster' like cooller once put it), strenx and killsen will never be as sneaky like the russians, in spite of all their aim (or probably because of it) and hence will never perform as well. dunno, alot of times it's about skill, no other way to put it. look at 125 final, killsen cypher 0-4. wtf happened? the german has the aim, he was active as fuckl, good form; he's old school (not like cooller maybe or evil, but still killsen played q3 long time), so he knows tricks, he has alot of experience on lans, even won 1 once, and still he loses 4-0 to cypher in what looked like a game btw a solid 2200 semipro vs a true pro. rapha would have never lost that way. and what does rapha have that killsen doesnt? brain and timing? sure but cmon it's an old game mode in an old game, all the pros know all the tricks on every map, when to attack when to be aggressive etc, and they all, lets faceit, can fuckin time items. old school? i doubt rapha is alot more oldschool than killsen is. so why did killsen lose 4-0 while rapha, i claim, wouldnt? skill?... whatever that means

yes, i was a garbage player in the early days, i also used a defective ps2 mouse back then. i changed my name, mouse, and started training with allmental/cloud before ra3 died. i ended up being a totally different player towards the end of q3, ask them if you don't believe me.

Rapha is a different type of player - he isn't an aim whore, he's a control player.

Noobs don't fucking play properly, they do irrational shit, rush when they are supposed to camp and vice versa.

It would fuck up his mental game to play morons constantly. He would see bad habits and have misinformation about his dueling style. Thus breaking his own game. He needs around 1600+ (minimal Elo) players so that when they apply a strategy - rapha can absorb it and break it.

It's just that simple.

Strenx/k1llsen/toxjq etc they play anyone because their game is aim based around items, so they can show up at item and rape and don't learn bad strategic habits by playing scrubs.

I agree with you Jiggly. Nobody was forcing him to do anything he didn't want to, but he could have answered in a less-rude way. Imagine how awful it would be to see a kid go up to a professional baseball player just to maybe ask for his/her autograph and having this athlete rudely deny it to him. I definitely lost some of the respect and admiration I had for him after seeing this. But at least on the bright side you did get to play with him today. :)

Imagine how awful it would be to see a kid go up to a professional baseball player and ask him to play softball with them instead of preparing for one of the most important games of the season.

For a professional player Quake is more than a sport or a hobby; it's their (only?) source of income. You can not reasonably expect them to be there for you exclusively.

It is pretty difficult to find really good duels, regardless of your skill level.

I'm just a shitnoob 2k dueler and I often just idle on a server for 30mins to an hour to find a duel. The person who usually joins is either ultra shit or also one of those 1900/2k kids who gets roflstomped, so it is pretty disheartening when you wanna play and improve.

So someone with Rapha's skill - He can actually be a bit of a dick and say he doesn't want to play any one less than say 2.3k because even then he walks over everyone.

It's Quake semantics, you won't appease anyone, just enjoy the game for what it is.

We all know it's the greatest FPS game ever.
