Athene is one of the biggest streamers around and one of his colleagues has said that Own3d will be shut down within 2 weeks. Athene himself has also confirmed this. He has been streaming with Own3d for quite a while and some of you might have read the destiny story.

I'm not sure if it's true, but I've read it here first http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/17...ext_weeks/

Some have mentioned that Own3d has quite a few Quake movies, please post the links here and I will grab them and re-upload to Youtube as-is. Me and Lashknife have devised an efficient way of downloading them all, as the "Youtube" button on the Own3d website is too slow. You link 'm, we grab 'm. All under the motto: better safe than sorry.

For our Own3d account (Holysh1t TV) all vods older than 1/1/2011 do not work anymore! Please check if this is the case on your account too.

Yes, but other big streamers vouch for him and say that he's been doing serious things since 2009. Athene lives nearby and I know his troll status, so this is either a big joint operation by large streamers to get people to quit Own3d (because of the way Own3d fucked Destiny over), or it has some truth in it. Either way, as I said, I'm not sure if it's true.

I've got 800+ vods on Own3d that I'll need to start moving. I guess moving it to Youtube is a good idea regardless if the story is true or not.

Me and Lashknife are currently archiving all the vods onto Youtube, however all vods from 2010 or older are not longer available! January 2011 is ok, december 2010 does not load anymore. I have opened a support ticket, but we'll have to see if we can get a reply.

GData and the first Zotac vods are no longer available right now. I'm trying to get it resolved.

Looks like it was a disaster of a business though. I wonder where they went wrong?

Viewership (income) dropped due to problems, but price of hosting stayed constant so they fell into the red?

If you're talking about the sequel they decided to let Raven make. surely you can't say that was worth anything other then shit. Or are you talking about the community made fixes over a year later before the game became playable? ID bashed the game by not making it because they were too busy with Doom.

Yes, Raven is the villian here and the q4max team did a stellar job with their mod. You should also mention that the game got a lot better after id took the development over, things like 125fps would probably not be possible to be done by the community as long as the engine was closed source.

quake community is awesome. Have you seen the dozens of thousands of community made content out there over the years, the thousands of lans, online tournaments and so on?

problems are it is not a massively played game anymore and the company behind it has absolutely 0 interest on it, that's all.

id software is practically not involved in quake live, considering it is a spare time project of 2 employees and they have put exactly $0 into financing or organizing tournaments which is something every single current "e-sport" company does with hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars.

but quake community isnt only bashing or whining or negative. qlranks, faceit, russian community events, the media files, and community maps... the list is long of what the community have done with quakelive. if it wasnt for the community then quakelive wouldnt be half as good as it is today. neglecting a community like esr is probably the stupidest thing any game provider can make. if you cant see that, remove bias.

again, i dont see "bashing" to hold much value to any producer. apple is still pushing ipad mini and whatnot, even if people call them overprised copies.

your first point reads "1. NO COMMUNITY SUPPORT" when clearly thats just a straight up lie. also, support and encouragement is not the same thing. i'd say most everybody on esr knows its only 2 people working on ql, but the suggestions that were made are still things that are more or less a must to have a successful game by todays standards. probably every competitive game have some sort of built in ladder and match making. i know hon and lol had streams embeded into their game/launch client.

these suggestions are the ones that have been repeated the most, as far as ive noticed. before you claim "bashing", you might wanna consider whats actually bashing and suggesting.

ive heard several americans "bash" apple. if you think its an opinion only centered in europe; sry, wrong.

every single game has constant bashing from the community yet companies that created a competitive game want it to be featured on major events, and those require an investment from the company behind it (blizzard, capcom, riot games, valve, etc. do) or huge sponsors quake doesn't have anymore since this is all about advertising. That's how it works.

Without lots of events every year there's no reason for top players to keep playing constantly for money, therefore drop the game competitively. That causes less sign ups and no shows.

And about the quakecon2013 thread, have you watched a quakecon online? Every single one of them has been completely unwatchable and filled with absurd mistakes, except 2011 according to some people

There is a reason why everything related to quake live goes down, because quake live loses half of its playerbase every year. It's a no win situation for organizations tied to this game.

Hopefully reborn comes out sooner than later, quake live will be lucky to make it to 2014

I could be mistaken, but all of those were not exclusive to quake, but featured numerous other games as well.

They went bankrupt due to the nature of the business. It has little or nothing to do with quake specifically.
