Am having difficulty playing the faceit sunday cup vods; every 3 to 10 seconds the video stutters and pauses, making it unwatchable.

When playing back the vods, my cpu usage goes well over 90% continually whilst watching these vods.

I know flash has been unnecessarily cpu heavy for quite a good time now, but this is a new level for me.

Running latest version of flash and firefox.

The same error occurs when using chrome, ie, opera etc. Oddly, live streams are fine, it's just the vods.

Is it possible to run an older version of flash in a light weight browser? Anyone else having similar problems or have found a workaround?

My pc is getting a bit long in the tooth now:
Win7 Pro 64Bit, latest updates
Core 2 Quad q6600, running at 2.8Ghz
4GB DDR2
8800gtx
128GB Crucial M4 SSD

I would have pointed to my CPU (struggles with a lot of the higher resolution frag movie files these days, even on media player classic), however due to it running the live stream perfectly..there must be a a driver hitch, a silly setting enabled....or are the latest flash updates just that badly done?

Please help :(

Tried disabling hardware/gpu acceleration. No effect :(

you can check how high ur cpu load goes at the task manager to see if it is the problem, but really it should be fine with that cpu.

Try vlc and using that as a browser add-on, should save you some load.

No, that is the problem.

Whilst playing back/stuttering through vods, cpu usage is between 90 and 100 percent. On all my installed browsers as well. Would appear to be the latest flash update :(

Vlc browser add on? Could you explain; is there a plugin that embeds the vlc player into the flash player of a site automatically and uses it to play the .flv file? You have got me confused :S

yes, you are not confused that is what the vlc plugin does. btw, when you have high cpu load you should ENABLE gpu acceleration, disabling it lets the cpu do work (obviously).

True, however there is no difference with the option disabled/enabled for gpu acceleration :(

Do you have a link for the vlc add-on; I can only find a mediocre addon for firefox which is negated by the ability to input url's into the vlc player directly.

Is this plugin browser specific or a flash player replacement?

enable gpu accel, then reload the page, you did that, right? :p

no idea what you are talking about, he was telling you to use the vlc plugin for firefox, what ability are you missing? you can still input an url with the vlc player, how does negate anything the plugin does? :/

both the plugin and the media player support the playback of .flv files.

Sounds like a hardware issue to me. A faulty device that makes some kind of interference. But basically it could be anything.
Is your hard drive a 5400 rpm disk by any chance?

OS disk is a Crucial M4 128GB SSD.

There is 1TB 7200rpm WD data disk installed as well.

What kind of hardware issue do you think this could be?

It's really odd in that I can watch the stream perfectly well; yet when the vod of the same cast/stream is released a few hours later; I cannot watch the exact same content due to insufferable stuttering every 3 to 10 seconds :(

All drivers are up to date for the gfx card, latest firmware on the SSD; never felt the need to update the bios of the motherboard (always been stable, every component has/is working); x-fi xtreme music has latest drivers (although they are several years old now; never caused me any problems).

At a bit of a loss really :( Youtube videos do stutter as well at the higher resolution end; 1080p/original video quality can be a struggle to play at times. Again, the high cpu usage.

I swear it's just a really bad flash update on adobe's part :(

You could always try a earlier driver on the GFX-card. Some time ago I had lag issues in most games, and that was because I was using the latest GFX-driver at the time.

I assume that the SSD is the system-disk so there's no problem about the sufficient bandwidth on that part.

By hardware related issue I mean everything that is using a PCI or PCI-E slot. It could be a faulty RAM chip as well, who knows. In most cases its just a little tweak in windows with settings and drivers and its all good again.

You could also try to install a earlier release of Adobe Flash just to make sure its not the encoding engine that don't work properly with your computer setup. And if you are careful, a BIOS update can make wonders on some systems.

+ media player of your choice should do the trick. Just avoid the flash aids and you should do fine if your hw is working as it should and your OS is properly configured.

For viewing livestreams i recommend https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer

(fuck you flash, i hate you from the bottom of my heart)

Did you try booting on another OS with a liveCD to see if it's really hardware related and not some program causing problems?
