Not sure how much this oberservation is worth, but I've noticed way bigger gains/losses after this "update".

Just look at any of the top players (v1um, ulbe, etc...), they all have huge gains and losses (1400+).

And if you ask me, any rating that makes you lose (or gain) 1400 ELO after only ONE game is not to be taken very seriously. Just imagine the Nr. 1 Player (v1um) losing a game (and with it losing 1400 ELO), he would then all of a sudden not even be ranked in the top 5000.

Useless ranking.

You'll notice that the -1400 +1400 ones all have the same elo score after them, because those games actually aren't being used in the ranking.

I just haven't stopped them from being displayed in the frontend yet.

The ranking is not useless, at this point i'm very happy with it.

how about inactivity list? if someone doesnt play for let's say 2 months he gets hidden from the rating list(elo is saved though) until he plays a game. Would hide all cheaters who are banned aswell as renamed accounts and other stuff

We planned that, the only reason we didn't do it is because it yet is we had to change the database and all crawlers to do it.

It still looks bugged out to me. Winzo's second page stats (games 11-20) show multiple +/- 1000+ elo point swings.

Note that I picked winzo pseudo-randomly and just browsed the stats. I've played winzo a few times - he is pretty good.

This observation goes for pretty much any player (after checking about 5 profiles of the top ranked players).

Most have 1000+ gains/losses multiple times. On some profiles you just have to look at the 2nd page of matches etc...

As long as this isnt fixed, the CA ELO is pointless. One game and you can go from Nr. 1 in the world to Nr. 5000.

Interesting, yet those big jumps are kinda disappointing. I'm not sure what to think about that yet.

sirax, do you have some kind of match outcome prediction algorithm hidden within that? Say, 70% probability red wins with players ABCD against EFGH? It would be cool to help shuffles... but also to compare different rating systems and see which one is the most effective!

I have my own reasons for this request (main one being forced to have my nick being associated with an unofficial, pretentious -how do you value teamwork?- , faulty system which places me above strenx and many other better players), and I have never asked to be (wrongly) represented by him.

Personal accuracy stats I'm okay with, they give you a general idea of what you're doing wrong/right weapon-wise. I'm also okay with them being public because this stat is practically harmless to the game's health and it gives something for stat-whores to play for anyway. Maps played / Time played I'm also okay with, for various reasons. Duel ELO I'm okay with, because it's pretty much necessary with such a small playerbase and no matchmaking system to prevent accidental rape. I'm also okay with #tdmpickup's skill rating for the same reason.

But that's about it. QL public enemy number one is not even cheaters, it's stat-whores. These involuntary fuckretarded faggotbrain cocksuckers have been unfortunate enough due to their inherited genetic brain functionality, upbringing and life-experiences to end up with such a mentality that they are convinced that people other than themselves actually care about their Win/Loss or Kill/Death ratios.

The amount of team games that have been completely fucked because of quitter / team-stackers / win-joiners is so high I have no doubt in my mind it has played a vital role in preventing QL from increasing it's playerbase.

Your example supports the development of skill ratings and ladders, to divide beginners and intermediate players. Quake (and every single online game, chatroom, forum, whatever) has always had griefers.

What I'm getting at is specifically the Kill/Death and Win/Loss ratios visible in each players profile. Those exact numbers are what drive stat-whores to do what they do, while a griefer is going to grief regardless, stats or no stats.

It's those Kill/Death and Win/Loss numbers that should be removed, to prevent these people from getting obsessed, and in turn making the game more balanced and accesible for newcomers. (because stat-whores prey on newcomers)

You think that QLRanks CA algorithm encourages killing beginners because it raises your rank (it doesn't, you get penalised for this). Your solution to this problem is to devolve the game more i.e. remove an essential ranking system from a competitive e-sport game. The non-existence of this feature is one of the most likely reasons for the poor initial performance of quakelive.

At first I thought you were complaining about your own game experience, but when I told you to use online pickups, you started complaining for other people instead.

My advice is this, go play solitaire.

The trouble is, stats aren't the same as rankings anyway... I would love id software to be able to penalize stat-whores by "reducing" their stats, but this doesn't make any sense because it defeats the whole purpose of keeping a statistical record of wins, losses, kills and deaths in the first place, while a ranking on the other hand is known to fluctuate by nature, and can be subject to regulations, and therefore be easily penalized.

qlranks is awesome and useful in duel though, and the obvious things I can think of that could improve qlranks are qlstats migration (pickup tdm ranking, separate website)
and maybe ctf fastcaps (which are on the ql forums so it's just manually updating the numbers every year or so).

About my assumptions on how the system works : I really didn't take many risks. If he refuses to hide you, then the system in its current state probably doesn't allow that. Why would it, anyway? Of course it's all speculation but I don't hide it. What I want to show is simply that whatever new you ask for is (almost) bound to require more development, sometimes a lot more than you expect, and that unless you give a valid reason for it, the dev is probably gonna tell himself "Why bother?".

the outcome of a pub ca game (w/l ratio) 90% of the time is determined by the shuffle which is why, although your logic is partially true, i think ybl has a good point

to counter those... If he camps and gets lots of L his elo won't be high, if you lose a game with guys with low elo in your team you won't lose that much. So it kinda balances itself.

Anyway 90% of pub ca game that you play are determined by you by my experience :p

beware of optichechozzz servers on quake live.

if you hit better than 38 accuracy, he'll kick you with 8 seconds left in the game so you get -41 elo instead of win points.

if i´m correct in qlranks everyone starts with 1200 points, which is the same as quake-live skillrating 120. this is lower t4. dafuk makes no sense.

it also means, if ur qlranking goes from 1190 to 1201, ur world rank climbs up 30.000, because you leave all the new accounts behind you. its a roffl.

I'm no programmer, but is it really that hard to hide the accounts that havent been playing in X amount of time? Many in the top 50 (US at least) haven't played in months.

QLRanks is not an MMO and that number is not gold or exp points.

It's supposed to rank people and find out their skill. Whatever the current formula is, it can't depend on activity, as that doesn't reflect skill in any way.

This. Elo can go down one point for each of the inactive days in a row. Progressive system also can be used, like you lose [Elo/1500] points each day you don't play. e.g. if you are a 1590 Elo dueler you will be about 180 Elo points down for a half-year vacancy. Pretty solid, if you ask me.

The team that he won with has +30 acc (most of them) and the red team has less then 30 acc (most of them). Clearly the teams weren't balanced.
