The plan is to have the following leagues:

CA, CTF, iCTF, FT, iFT, TDM and possibly Duel.

I am already in the process of trying to get something together for CTF and TDM. We need your help to gather up the community and make this happen though.

Right now there are no CTF/TDM clans that I am aware of in NA but there are still players who do pickups daily. So please help network and spread the word. We want a league for many mods and we plan on expanding for EU/Worldwide.

No we have no intentions of merging with the WFL.

Why would you not want to play in another league? As of right now both of the leagues that are open for signup are not available in WFL so even if you preferred to to play FT/iFT in WFL you still have the option of other game modes for QLGL.

Understood. However, this is one reason why you would have subs on your roster. We all know life gets in the way sometimes and if a match had to be scheduled on an off day to accommodate then that is something we are willing to work with. Ideally, the purpose of having a shorter season is to alleviate the long term time constraints requiring a longer commitment.

shit dude back in TFC we played in 5 different CTF leagues a week for months on end :| I miss that level of nerdiness :p even if I couldn't pull it off today... the more the merrier I say.

Only one real TDM clan in NA and its mine, Nx (#nxclan). We've been trying to find practice games vs anyone for the last 1.5 years and have managed to play like 3 maps. So yea we're pretty much the only ones. Before that 1.5 years a few teams like ufx and wyz were scrimming for $$$ lan aspirations and we managed to practice a bunch vs them, but those days are long gone and nearly every member in the clan has given up on a future for ql/tdm =/

You can still count on us to signup (and prob CTF as well) but I don't have any hope left :p regardless GOOD LUCK try to get some others on your staff cause man its hard to do it all alone =)

Just use a normal / suitable website for gods sake, so many NA efforts have been doomed from the start cause of unsuitable websites. With how jaded and lazy people are in NA you'd almost want it to be so players don't even have to make an account to play in the leagues... Have it so only the clan leader has to and can add players to his roster or something.

You're also going to run into skill gap problems in some modes IF they even get any signups but I guess worry about that if and when it comes to it :)

ra3 was always the most competitive community. its why quake is still alive in the first place.

ca also has a huge skill gap and requires good teamplay. I don't know what you mean by it being uncompetitive.

you probably prefer to have unfair advantages with attributes throughout the match like in ctf and tdm. its why those game modes are dead. they attract too many cheaters and team stacking slum lords....

only game mode i would play to acquire armor and weapons during the match is duel mode. cause 1v1 ca just feels too corny and is all aim no brains.

but the teamplay in ca is huge. it was always the most popular team mode. The fact its not as exciting to watch or do a play by play on.....is of no consequence to people who would like to play it competitively. which is the majority of this playerbase.

I salute the OP for finally taking initiative with a CA tourney.

its because they think there is less strategy..and less things to talk about during the match..so to a "spectator", they feel it will be too boring.

I do not understand why CA is continually getting looked down upon.

As far as I can tell, it seems to be one (if not the) most active gamemode in quake. It is very easy for new players to get into, yet still has a BIG skill gap between the players.

I could actually see the statement "if we encouraga CA... maybe quake will grow" being true.

Oh, and the funny thing is that the "duel pro's" often are not "pro" at CA. They camp/+back a lot (typical for duel) and are often the last one alive on their team, often losing because of it.

How do I know this? I've played many games with k1llsen, stermy, strenx etc... and you could also observe this when watching strenx's first preson stream playing CA.

So I guess there seems to be "more skill" involved in CA than some people would like to admit. And no, I'm not saying it takes more skill than duel, it definately does NOT. But it does have its own little strategies and skills that need to be mastered. But the big difference is: the learning curve is not as steep, so that it is perfect for newer players to get into.

Couldn't have said it any better. Everyone enjoys playing a certain mod or mods and we will always have a bias towards one or another. There is no point on bashing one though simply because you find it uninteresting or lacks competition etc. The purpose of pushing a CA league initially is because of its popularity. All of the clans are very excited that a league is manifesting.

We will not allow any sort of aliases/alts in the league. You can be in 10 clans if you would like but you can only represent one for that mod.

As far as keeping the tiers matched, for the first season we want to see how things pan out and test the waters. The intention for the 2nd season is to divide it into two groups based on tier level. First seasons results will help us better determine this. The issue is that there can be many players/clans who are Tier 4 but still get crushed by other Tier 4 clans that would claim they belong in a lower tier. As was pointed out, CA is a very team based oriented mod and you can have the best aim but if you don't work as a team you will not produce the results you had hoped. We are however trying to avoid a monopoly in the league where you just have a couple of clans dominating the competition.

thats what you need to compete in a mode, but that doesnt class it as compeditive in quake imo. its broken in a few aspects, and it lacks what most any official gamemode in quake have

i dont see nothing broken in ca to be competitive, ... i only see features like free float in-need of disabling, maybe even for public play (and it already can be disabled in priv servers) and maybe another way of specing, but again that is secondary (spectator feature - birds view of the map - re-interactive spawn visualizationlike Memento_Mori made)

other then that its basicly all there, or am i missing something? ... tight teamplay comes naturaly with-in clans, groups of members. So we should see some interesting strategies, like how to rush BR at dm6.. .i would fucking love to see that at a comp level or how to break that kind of control.

its not a compeditive gamemode because it lacks any in-game objective. find the best way to kill your opponent; equals camp 9/10, dont die; means camp 9/10 times. the only reason people move out in the start is because that is what you do, with maybe the exception of asylum where top position might be strongest.

then we come to the issue of being only one left, 1v1. what do you do? your enemy got away from you, he isnt burstable with sg and hes camping. your only real response is to camp yourself. whats your answer to this? ive been in a few top level compeditive ca's, nad i still have no idea.

no, not at all. in tdm you have strong and weak positions, while in ca they are just positions. high ground counts for something, but if nobody is attacking its reduced to nothing. it have to pe specific too, as in some angles shaft can easily make rails too hard to hit to justify calling the high ground positional advantage.

rock-paper-scissors also have the attributes for compeditive sport, doesnt mean it should be in the olympics or even be called compeditive in comparision to real sports.

strong and weak just the same. and yes usually high ground. but when one team camps as you point out....staying on the high ground doesn't matter. it also takes coordination, strategy etc.

i dunno, i would also like to see 1 day team cups. They are easier to understand and you better recognize and sort team by skill, just cuz you have the chance to experience more teams at once and you can compare better.

Luck will not be necessary. We already have many clans interested for both CA and iCTF and have had no criticism regarding the duration of the season. If you take a look at the WFL for example, their league is far longer. If I am not mistaken I believe it is a 20 week season which is far too long IMO.

I wanted to clear some things up here.

There is good news and there is bad.

The bad news is that our webmaster has departed due to unforeseen circumstances relating to serious personal issues. Along with his departure went the domain and website and all the data that we had (users, rosters, teams etc)

The good news is that the league will still happen but it is currently postponed until we can get a new domain back up and running and have the rosters/data inputted.

If anyone in the community knows web design and would like to help out and or can spare their time with creating a new site then please message me. We don't need anything fancy, just something operational at this point in time in order to proceed with the league.

I would like to express my most sincere apologies to everyone involved as the rug was literally pulled out underneath my feet without any warning. I have spent a countless amount of time and effort organizing everything and getting the community involved and there is no way I am letting this obstacle dissolve the league.

Please ensure you read the rules and news on the site on how to register your clan. There are instructions for players and there are instructions for Team Captains. On a side note the map pool for the iCTF league needs to be updated as the site currently lists the old map pool.

In addition, since we are coming into a very busy time of the year the new league start date will commence in early January. The date has not been finalized but it will most likely start on Saturday Janauary 5th, 2013. For the time being, round up your clan mates and have them register on the site. Lastly, don't forget to get your roster organized and get some more practice in before the new year!

its not really an argument, its just annoyance over the fact the NA scene only plays stuff like ca and insta when everywhere else on the planet is enjoying the complexities of TDM over various skill levels. Nothing against CA but once you get to know every game mode in quake its pretty clear CA is merely scratching the surface of what this game can offer in terms of skill/strategy/teamwork/fight scenarios/resource management/fun :p

And like I said its easy to go "FUCKING GAY CA SHIT" when its just frustration over the lack of any activity for the premiere team modes that everywhere outside of NA have been enjoying for quite some time now. Of course every mode has a place and people should be able to compete in w.e they want.... hence the frustration for tdmers like myself! =)
