I am playing now XCOM enemy unknown ...
I have sense I get again beaten by this game ...

man, terror from the deep was my favourite xcom game,
but I never achieved to beat it :-(, I just got to the alienbase 3rd level, but somehow there were still some mindcontrol monsters left that took over my men ...

I played also the 1st and 3rd part ... in the beginning it's always easy ... but then the enemies get good equipped fast and at some point you just can't beat them anymore, they have better armor, better aim ...

but I think this new XCOM is a bit easier ...
but just now I got into some mission where I have to fight against some kind of mech .. and this thing can boost two shots per round with splash damage and basically shreds my team apart ...

hope I can beat that game ... it's the last remaining game in my list that I have to beat ... finally beat a XCOM game ...

but damn, it's such a great gaming experience ...

and yes, sectopods tend to shred your team apart :(

I think it's the normal mode,
and yeah right the name is sectopod (like that name of the qw player :-))

You need heavies with scopes and heat ammo to deal with sectopods. I think heavies with extra rockets and scopes are generally the best all round soldier for all missions.

hmm, thanks for the tip with scopes, didn't use them before, they make a lot of difference, overcame the sectopods and gladly reached the final mission =), but I don't know what you really mean by heat ammo

Heat ammo gives you double damage against robotic enemies.
Its one of the upgrades you can choose when they gain rank.

ah, o.k. I always chose that ability when the soldier got promoted :-).
In the end level with 2 sectopods I just cloaked my soldier, so when my soldier saw them they couldn't react, and then shot a shredder rocket at them, which increases the hitratio and made them easy targets to take out with plasma

I still play the original game every now and then. Personally i enjoyed Enemy Unknown more than Terror from the Deep. Ought to try out the new game but I'm reluctant since I know I will get dissapointed for some reason.

for me terror from the deep was the first title,
I played it most intensively, that's maybe why it's my favourite ...
I did not really play the 1st so much, only the 3rd part apocalypse a bit ..., anyway all three parts are pretty similar ...
the new part has a similar combat system, but reduced to only six men and in normal it's easier I think than the old xcom, but still this great xcom feeling is there, the excitment playing the missions, and of course soundtrack and graphics are modern and good

You should give it a try. Havent played the originals back in the day, but played Jagged Alliance for years. For a AAA turn based strategy game the new XCOM is very good and I am actually very happy that it exists. Sure it has some flaws (the thing i hate most is the camera inside UFOs) and maybe it is not so complex as the old ones, but still a very good game.
