Nope it didn't improve, at all.

- Movements are still gimmicky, feels slippery and fairly uncontrollable when using stamina
- Netcode is still a joke, I don't count the number of rails that I think should hit anymore
- Gravity is still fucking too low, effectively making you an astronaut on the moon and preventing you from using the one and only "advanced movement mechanic" in way too many situations
- Spam is still as effective despite the slight rockets hitbox decrease
- Elite is nothing but a not fun, boring, annoying hide and seek mode
- Reload time of the rail makes the game even more random because you will only get a few clear shots (maybe 5 or 6) in the entire round and even if you are a worldclass aimer like stermy/link/etc you will have a high chance of losing the round.
- Bobbing. I think BF and COD series are the only ones on which that shit is still on. Even on CS it got removed.

Those are not the only problems, only the major ones.

The combination of very low skillcap/spam effectiveness/slowass rail reload time and how the elite mode has to be played makes it VERY VERY random in competitive play.

What's pathetic is that randomness is what the devs are aiming at, they said it makes the game more interesting if you can't really predict who's going to win.
What they fail to understand is that the fact you can't really predict who's going to win should be the result of a big and healthy scene, not because you made the game fucking random in the first place.

Bottom line is, the devs have no clue about what they are doing. They are not listening to people who actually do and I wouldn't expect that to change in the future. They will keep on adding racing game features (platforms giving temporary bonuses, countdown and soon checkpoints lol.) on that FPS and say it makes the game 'deep'.
They had a chance, a big opportunity and they completely blew it.

Now I expect a very long ass post (without any real content) from Hylis telling me through meaningless hyperbole, hypocrisy and double talk how rude I am and how I can't seem to comprehend how awesome the game actuallty is. Yes, they are that delusional, despite pretty much every single community whining about all the game's problems and the very low number of viewers on streams, they just ignore everything and maintain their suicidal course on the game's development

The game is horrible as an esport title and if you intend to play for fun then I suggest you to find another game.

Oh well that's my opinion anyway, you can do whatever you want with it.

sad to hear they have this attitude, although i'm not that surprised: this is exactly how they acted with TrackMania (Nations) aswell, by not listening to the esports community whatsoever and just taking decisions that really just made the game worse. and now they don't even care about the game anymore, which is really weird to me as it's still by far their most popular title.

I was annoyed at the repetetive nature of that kind of whine before even installing the game to see with my own eyes, and unfortunately shit was pretty spot on. Uninstalled the fuck outta that game.

four points you listed above would make elite very unbalanced and it wouldn't work. The rest I mostly agree with, like netcode and movement. I get a feeling you expect good aimers to win every time, I find a lot of people have that attitude. I think that's a good thing if anything, it would get boring fast if the attacker would have a 90% win ratio.

Nothing new tho, everyone with half a brain knew this game was shit from the start.

To add to this the animations and their blending are really bad. The hitbox moves a player length over as soon as you change strafe directions and combined with the bad netcode, trying to hit a dodging player is a gamble. They slowed the strafe speed to try and fix this but they made the wrong move.

There is only one way to salvage Shit Mania, but it will require money. Pay the players minimum wage to play the game and it will be an instant classic. Nothing but praise will be spoken about the Holy Grail of games, and through time it will be made a legend among future gaming generations. It aligns with their goals of spending more money and making a boring game that no one wants to play into the perfect game that everyone wants to play. Everyone wins, until the Union settles in.

Agree with (the first part of) what winz wrote... The most important aspects for me are movement and netcode. The game is slow, and moving around is not really pleasant as it is right now. Mid-long range rails still scarcely register. It's a fact, not just idle whine, and it should have gotten fixed months ago. Also, I strongly dislike the in-game use of p2p. One player's internet messing up the game for everybody, is something I can do without...

I am not worried about Elite. A proper team match mode will be created eventually. But I find it weird that tens of thousands of dollars are being poured into Elite right now. 95% of official Elite games are boring as shit to watch. You could make a fragmovie out of the best shots ever pulled since the beta is out, and it would still be boring. Yet the mod in its current form is being massively promoted. I think that's a terrible signal.

Just my two cents after a few months into the beta... It can still be turned into a really really pleasant game (some Elite Exp features are on the right track, wall jumps, insta reload). With, I hope, everything that ID failed to bring (clan matchmaking, etc...).

The game is not p2p, it is only that some datas can be transfered with p2p in the fun space. It can be unactivated. The network just make it fair between all players on the server, so there is no complain about who have the best ping on the server for the online match. The server can be configured to be more strict to users that would have ping issues and disadvantage them faster.

Elite is a mode that can also evolves. It means 3vs3 with a single point of view perspective for the viewer to enable to see the most important actions of the match. I have a list of 20 things that can be included to deepen the map control, aim, moves, strategy, choices etc. But the goal is to make it carefully. As I said so many times, it is much easier to add than to remove. I would also say that it is so easy to add without taking care of other very important topics that are too rarely discussed here.

I think Shootmania needs more cowbell Vehicles.

My honest thoughts about shootmania.

Movement doesnt feel as good as quakes, i dont know do u even want same kind of feel, but it feels like character is gliding in the air most of time.

There is too much randomness. I've red what u've said about this, but too much is too much. I dont know how this should be aproached, but personally I would try different things. Im not saying any of these would be better / more balanced.
- More armor to attacker
- Rockets have limited flying path
- There is certain amount of rockets, so u cant spam them like a fucking dipshit
- Add some howling sound so u can at least hear rockets flying behind the walls

Nothing pisses me off in this game as much -> u r 150m away from nearest enemy, he spams some rockets while u are behind wall, then u start moving behind the wall and suddenly wild rockets appear out of fucking nowhere. Is this skill? How the fuck attacker can avoid these rockets, besides having a good luck and being a necromancer?

Why in the name of baby jesus maps end when the first one who gets 6 points wins? (or 2 more) This makes absolutely no sense to me. There is three attackers, if everything goes well, third attacker doesnt have a change to attack second time? And this is what makes this game randomness stand out even more. Winning is easy and fast, u cant make any mistakes what so ever.

My thoughts after a few games in Shootmania.
The game feels like something some modders could make in a few days. From the menu that seems to have been taken from another game(trackmania i guess?) to the game itself.

The gameplay is very boring not because it´s something new, just because it´s nothing special and very dumb down. You have weapons that isent fun to use or well made in the first place. And it feels like playing instagib with rockets and rails - altho the weapons are very much more random. And when it comes to team modes i find it very random aswell. And if you think of any sport out there, people tend to evolve in their games/sports to get betther and betther and work on the things they arent so good at in their game. In Shootmania I jumped in and played my first game(FFA Instagib i call it) and in under 3mins I had hit the scorelimit and won the game over perheps 12 other players, altho with high ranking placements, Comeon ! Where in this game can a good player stand out? In what way? Looking at the elite pros battling it out 3v3 and they all move alike and aim like everyone else. There is no depth behind it, and that also makes the game very boring to watch. To watch someone great do what they do best makes it special and spectacular to watch. In Shootmania anyone can do what the others can do, aslong as they have played with a keyboard and a mouse before and have played FPS titles online before.

If you would have aimed for something new and even aiming it to be the next big FPS esport title. Then you should have thought about what is missing in the older FPS titles that was popular.
Shootmania are missing so many variables - weapons to master to pixel perfection, maps to learn every pixel of(trick jumps), movements that takes time to master and learn, maps that are well balanced and make the game so much more fun to play.
And the trickier part - something that makes the game stand out from the crowd. Now it just seems like the game is something meshedup with trackmania.

The gameplay needs to be fun to get the players play it. This game doesn´t even stand a chance vs free games like Warsow, the newest Tribes, and the list can go on.

From what I've read here tribes is as bad if not worse than SM. That says a lot about both and about the future of this genre.

infact its arguable that the qualities we admire so much in quake today were largely the product of unintended bugs (such as the movement) and the community. also, back then it was the only game in town and had production values far above anything anyone else was making.

well, i like the fact that they tried to simplify the weapon system and the gametypes - did they succeed? no, but the that doesnt mean that the approach wasnt worthwhile.

And even, for example, when cooller was losing one tournament after another, people liked him not becaue of his efforts, but because either that he was very close to having perfect result and lost only because of tiny mistakes, or because he was achieving relatively good result in perspective of situation he was put in (i.e. someting like losing 10:0 at 7 mins, then making almost comeback to 10:9 or 10:8 in the last 3 mins is relatively good result in that situation). So in every case, no one values efforts unless they have something to do with result, even if it's approximate or relative.

Here we have no actual result, nothing close to actual result, and no relatively good result compare to anything else. So efforts of Nadeo don't deserve to be liked IMHO.

Your statement can only make sense when applied to QL which is not changing/moving forward. There is no way to apply this logic to SM, because movement/change by itself means nothing and cannot be a basis to like it or not. As I've said, it works only one way: to be good, shooters need to change. But if you start with shooter that does make changes, you cannot form any statement about it based on that fact alone, because change implies nothing.

Played the game since Alpha.

First off anything that is not Elite mode is absolutely retarded.

Anything that involves rocket vs rocket is pure faggotery since you can dodge all rockets above super close range easily. So, luck is the main factor in hitting someone that has half a brain.

Then Elite shows how the game is broken and gay. Defence is way too easy when you have decent coordination and to do that maps get more and more open and uninteresting to give more chances to the attacker.

Then the rail has spray.
I know right, wtf, the 3 dots of the default crosshair represent the extreme values of spray you could get.
And there is much more, but I cba to list them.
Its ok to play casually but I have no clue why this thing is actually played competitively.

I can understand most nadeo's decisions and that they are trying to fix other aspects, as they had 0 experience on this genre (you don' see fps developers making racing games)....

The default rail crosshair has three dots in the center, the game actually requires those three dots to be on the enemy in order for the shot to register. On most maps it's not really an issue, it's there to prevent you from hitting shots from extremely far away.

edit: forgot to mention, the other day while nvc was streaming SM UK ESWC qualis to record amount of 30 UNIQUE viewers (myself included), I was trolling the chat a bit. the comments I got there like, "yeah the game isn't fun if you're a noob and elite is maybe too hard for you to play, but other modes are noob friendly and fun", and also comments like "shootmania is like quake", "big skill cap", etc. hilarious.
