50 games needed at least. 20 is to few. (saying this for team modes where someone can play few games and get to top 100 / duel at least has slow progression)

1) 20 is a bit too few, 50 is a bit too steep. How about 25-30 duels played, for a decent middle ground?

2) agreed, that equals to approximately 2 months of inactivity. k1llsen is currently topping the duel charts without even touching QL for months, while rapha/cypher and other top contenders slowly fall behind him because they actually play.

Why should only russians be discriminate under that criteria. As far as I've observed there are just as many poles who only play ztn.
I remember seeing a bloke a few weeks ago with 9k+ duels played, 8.7k on ztn or whatnot.

There are many Estonians playing only dm6 though!

I think players with less than 50 games should still be considered in terms of computing ELO, but they should not show up in the global ranking.

This way, you still provide a nice service to anyone who starts playing, but you also give a more truthful representation of the community to those who play regularly.

I think instead of removing them after 2 months you should decay their rating. When I used to play WoW it was the same case, people play the first couple of weeks and get to high rank then just sit there to reap the rewards. Despite the lack of real reward for being the rank which you are on QLranks I still feel it would make more sense to slowly decay peoples rating based on some system.

I have no decay system in mind but it seems the most logical way of tracking activity and reflecting the lack of it in ranks.

QLRanks appears to pick up unranked games in CA, so this can include the vampiric damage servers people set up... only ranked & skillmatched games should be counted if poss

The only two times i actually looked at the Top CA ranked players in the past........was cheaters already banned form gameplay in ql. Listed at the top of the ranks. brand new cheating banned alts. hahahahah

I was just explaining how to use qlranks in duel to few new players (apparently my ql rating droped head over heels :| ) and came up with this idea: Why not just remove ql's skill level indicators next to servers and replace them according to qlranks? for example your skill would be +-100, more challenging up to +200
I can't see any reason why anyone would want to use ql's internal ranking in duel.
On the other hand other gamemodes are less on more broken and should stay the same imo.
I'd write it myself but I don't feel like learning how to write such scripts now :P

FIX QUITS ALREADY FOR TEAM GAMES

Seriously. How long can we wait? Some 1900 Elo statpadder quitting at 19:50, so he doesn't get Elo loss and opposing team gets negative points because of winning 3v4.

Multiply rating by percentage of time played (in our example, 1190 of 1200 seconds = 99% of the game). This way you get proper average rating throughout the whole game on both teams.

This also solves another problem where my team made a last minute comeback, but some noob quit and was replaced by Q_Adrian. In this case, QLRanks assumes highly rated Q_Adrian "carried" his team and punishes me. With my system, it would correctly notice that it was me doing the carrying because that other highly rated player played just a few seconds.



I have to admit I've mostly stopped joining losing teams on pubs in fear of losing my over 2000 Elo. But in a system like I've explained, if I joined for last 4 minutes, I would only count as 20% of my rating.

This means:
- expected outcome will still be a loss for my team,
- because of this, my rating won't go down much,
- because of this, I will be more willing to replace quitters in pub games.


Please, make it happen.

No you don't. The game won't even show in your stats if you aren't on the final scoreboard.

Today I've played 2 TDMs, in one a guy quit after 19:52 and I got negative points for winning 4v3. In the next one, same guy joined late and got positive points for free win.

So for him, the outcome is positive even though he won half of his games. I lost points even though I won 100% of my games.


Losing 30 points for quitting wouldn't do justice, as you normally lose like 3 to 5 for a loss.


And it's not only about punishing quits. It's very much about determining expected game outcome properly. This is meant to give everyone (winners, losers, quitters) appropriate rating.

Oh, and the quitters never getting negative points contribute to Elo inflation. Please think about this aspect too.

Its a hidden substraction.

You dont see the effect to much in tdm since the quitrate is not very high.
But if you play CA you will notice that even good players who has over 10% quitrate has a hard time getting past 1k elo.

I think TDM doesn't have that enabled yet :(

And there are 96,279 CAers, updated like less than 6 months ago so it's reliable. You won't find many games with that many active players 2 years after release.

theres only a couple hundred players in the usa. If i don't recognize a name in the usa....9 times out of 10 his account is pretty new and he doesnt have many games played.
