Hello, my fellow friends! We are proud to announce brand new competition of movie-makers. Anybody can make a movie and send it to us. And it might be a fragmovie, game-movie, unofficial teaser, video compilations from eSports events or whatever you like.

Thanks for the support guys, I want to make this movie, I'm excitted already. Contests are cool, mostly because there's a deadline that you have to keep in mind, it's actually pretty motivating.

I'll start watching demos today afternoon. There's a bit over 2 weeks left so I'll have to work quickly. It'll be a nice experience to see how will I do with such limitted time frame.

Anyway, to anyone interested, I'll be reporting progress on my blog, so if you want to be up to date with the production, or maybe if you want to give some feedback and opinions, then you're welcome to do so.

It's really a poorly phrased rule and it's almost a lack of professionalism considering there is money involved.
Most music is either copyrighted or uses a CC non profit licence, which doesn't suit this contest at all. But at the same time probably nobody will get sued for this kind of infringement, so while it's not going to cause "law problems", it's still obviously illegal.

I think as long as you give credit to the original authors, you are free to use their tracks, but I may be wrong. I don't think most bands/performers are douchy/cheap enough to fill a lawsuit because of a Quake movie. If anything, it promotes their music! I can't recall how many times I discovered great bands (inb4 dubstep) via fragmovies.

Does this limit the games in question specifically to "FIRST person shooters" or are clips from "THIRD person shooters" fine as well?
