Frags weren't amazingly awesome, but they were pretty good, definitely good enough to be entertaining. Everything else about the movie just worked well for me, nothing really stood out all that much but it looked good (download version) and sounded fine.

That sounds a bit like a 'meh' review, but what I mean is that it was nice and entertaining and there was nothing really jarring or wrong to spoil the fun!

I do find it funny though, and this isn't even particularly relevant here but a couple of scenes made me think about it, that instagib frags = super-duper-lame, but TDM quad rails = worthy of a place in respectable movies :V

Why would you judge an entire genre based on very little knowledge of what it's about? Or even hearing much of it at all. Dubstep is such a wide sound, it has many different styles. Needless to say frag movie producers tend to go after the same element of sound.

It's like saying Metal is shit and should die just because Slipknot aren't very good. There's talented people within every genre pretty much.

Without being able to name the subgenres of dubstep if such exists, I have heard various sounds within the genre. All this is dates back 6-7 years to when I first ran into dubstep. Much of the music I listen to is electronic and not just metal, and has always been so.

Dubstep however, has really never attracted me. Espcially of late it has become more obnoxious and pretentious in my ears. It has a very unique sound which is not a bad thing, but an amelodic track doesnt become interesting or good just because you slap the dubstep sound on top of it. Too much shit is being created wihtout any kind of effort put into it, but merely with the trendy dubstep sound that has become popular.

That being said I like melodic music in general and hate stuff like mindless hardstyle as well, which should also just go away...

When I play the video with KMPlayer, the audio is lagging behind.

Do I need a different codec?

Currently my player uses:
Video Decoder = (MPEG2) KMP Video Codec (AVC1-libcoded.dll)
Audio Decoder = (0xFF) KMP Audio Codec (AAC 2-libfaad2.dll)

Any advice is appreciated, because I really don't know anything about codec packs etc. :)

The image suggests that your system can't handle the file. 60hz 1280x720 videos require some power to decode, I'm asuming you have a rather old pc?

Well it's a 2.5 years old notebook, I'm guessing that its video card (Intel GMA 4500M) is too weak.
The CPU is an Intel Core2 Duo T6600, which I thought should be enough.

Recently, I have not seen such good movie. Tnx a lot for this one.

For me a q3/ql movie is very good, if:

- it contains a bit of CGI, not Avatar, not Tron, but more than a 2D pixel manipulation (Team Gigabyte - just a trailer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0v85pCoKzg )
- a good mix of the simple replay of the demos and notable camera movements, zooms, slow mo etc: good editing ( DH Winter QL Hype video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN7UCDhrJbs )
- notable gfx and sound effects
- the main part is not just a sequence of endless frags
- it contains a bit of joke/humor (but not comedy, of course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFcBBXpuRp0 )
- during the demos I see not just the name of player and the enemy, but maybe the name and date of the event, name of the map
- I get more info about the members: real names, nationality, a real life photo: without these the players are only q3/ql models with different nicknames
- harmonizing music and movie (do you remember to the movie called Fragged by Lexer with Evanescence - My Immortal? Horrible : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z63llZPtCes )
- it contains something, something new, which is remarkable

Based on this the Xentorium is a good, but avarage movie, 8/10

Well the player names stick to the bottom left, they look ugly with the stroke/drop shadow you have put on them, the letters arent equalised, etc. The thing looks cheap overall. ( might be ok for a ql movie tho )

In the credits you have put on a black background a blue legion picture and blue (+white) letters on the top. It is a common mistake that beginners do and is against readability, therefore should be avoided.

About the editing. Too much first person view, I am not happy with the pace and rhythm of the shots. The video looks like it was made a decade ago. The high rating you will get on esr for the composition will be cause of the frags, the finnish guys and purri. There is no problem with that.

The end credits are perfectly readable because the logo is made 50% bright (btw its grey mostly)
Most people enjoy first person to be 90% of the video, hell, some people will say they want only first person. All the frags are synced and the pace is perfectly fast. Purri has 2 scenes and the frags are nothing but flashy, i make them what they look like.

I loved the first person view.
For me real Quake movies have:
-First person view
-Crosshair, HUD on. Tbh I even prefer HP/AP, teamoverlay, timer and stuff like that. It allows me to have a better view on every frag's circumstances.
-No fancy effects, except for the intro/outro.
-Music with a fast flow.

But may be that's just because I grew up on these kind of movies in the dawn of the millenium... : ) Anyway this movie is a 8/10 (+1 for TDM and xt)

music was a great choice, frags were good enough and against good opponents. so far this and noctis has been the 2 best ql movies ive seen, cyphers that u linked and dahangs are up there too, but i still enjoy watching movies without trance/techno/dubsteb/bla/bla music =)

maybe crazy editing + ffa frags speaks more to you and thats fine, but u cant expect everyone to be the same =)

but theres still a lot more effort into editing by syncing music, which i would say makes an emotional response much easier to achive.

when i said ffa frags i didnt mean ffa literally, i mean no insane tripple air rockets and other insane shots. realisticly, opportunities like that wont come by nearly as often in a high caliber game, so you could imagine the time it would take to hit such shots.

i mean, just tonight, i made a quadrun with 2x double rails and a total of 5 impressives over 10 shots. even so, i would never messure that with the caliber of the frags in this movie.

the calibre here is pretty unimpressive.
i dont think justquake2 had synching, it didnt even have an outro...
what it did have was a huge amount of OMFG frags. i didnt remember any from this video. the cypher video i listed had a falling lg frag everyone went crazy over i think (didnt watch again, just pasted the link)

so you think it would be better to go to a tier1 pub server and get omfg frags vs total scrubs over these? please. pub frags are the worst thing to put in a movie

1. JQ doesnt have scrubs (evanescence part is best)
2. a good frag is a good frag. just because the names are strenx & silencep doesnt mean im gonna enjoy watching 4 rails on enemies that are going up a jump pad & shooting in the opposite direction (2:19~). the only memorable frag was epitome on 3:03~ then just all the lava voids just because of how much time was given.
names mean nothing, im looking at the frag...not the "You killed blabla" message.

i wasnt in the quake seen in 2004 (JQ has eswc 04 frags) so theres no nostalgia at all...just an appreciation of great frags...and a good overall combination when evanescence starts

Altough it didn't blow my mind I liked the movie quite a lot. Frags were good, music fitting (as always questionable - you can't make everyone happy), config and editing also top notch. I can see the direction Sharpe was going and what he achieved adds up into a very good effort. Awesome work and I'm eagerly waiting for more.

Enjoyed watching the movie a lot. I can see you want some feedback so let's see...
First of all there is something weird about the config but I can't put my finger on it. After watching it the first time I thought it was low fov but checking it again it doesn't seem like its very low...

Anyway there are a couple of transitions that I dont quite get (3:35, 5:15). Seem out of synch to me or maybe I'm not getting something.

Generally the biggest problem with the movie is the lack of 'highlights'. One the one hand the problem might be the lack of really outstanding frags. While pretty much all are very good there aren't really any frags that would stand out. On the other hand the music has very few changes of pace and has a simular mood all the way through which makes it hard to use it to 'create highlights'. There are only a few moments where it really 'builds up' to something which you sometimes used well (4:15) and sometimes missed out on (5:30). As a result the fragpart is pretty monotone which luckily is no big deal because it is only 4-5 minutes long. But if it was any longer it would start getting boring.

If I were you I'd spice it up with some funny/teamplay moments between the songs and add a bit more variety to the songtrack. Right now its a great fragcompilation and deserves 8/10 but you definitly have a good feel for the music and the skill needed to create more than just a great fragcompilation.

I only had one hour of sleep tonight so I hope that at least made some sense.

3:35 is synced with the bass drum hits which i'm not sure you can hear as much. I guess i should have synced it with the hi hats or something, would have made more sense.

5:15 is synced with the high hats

5:30 is the result of laziness on my part. There is a change of music that is done right there (maybe you can't hear it and then i've won) that was requested by frs towards the end of editing and I was too focused on finishing the job.

I think the monotony is the result of the music frs chose, its kinda always breakneck soloing. It's fitting for a fragmovie but not something I would have chosen as a moviemaker. This was frs's movie and the main objective was that he had something to remember the team and everything by.

My problem with music is that I have very special taste in music and the only time I used something I really liked and wanted to use I got bashed (http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=2063658). My next movie (which you will beta test, as you seem anal just like i like it) will feature daring music so fuck the haters.

afaik provi never really played duel in ql, and he's been inactive since the last dreamhack anyway.

damiah does play duel sometimes, but not often & not very seriously I think.

I also love all these q2 player in ql these days, but I think it's nearly impossible to catch up with the current top players, who have been playing q3 for years. But of course every player is different, and one can only ask what might've happened if they all focused entirely on ql 1on1 from day1...

dahang was a known NA quake2 player and he did fairly well in LAN tournaments.

well, after a few years there are a couple things that 'bother' me

2) my stuff from the end credits might just aswell been in the actual movie

3) hp/armor overlay in some, if not all the scenes. http://youtu.be/Lc-teUZ_7-4?t=5m16s this for example was done with 30ish hp

4) fuck purri for losing his hd just before we decided to make this movie, so we had to go with only the demos that had been uploaded somewhere :(

5) provi being gone and not providing any demos

6) add a few minutes more into it, especially few years later i wouldnt have minded it at all

on a plus side the movie has already completely served it's purpose which was to make a tdm movie of our clan that I/we can look back on after some time to remember the good days and tdm was still on the uprise, the feels etc. and now more than ever the music is exactly what i wanted, the mixing came out perfect and i can just watch it sometimes for the music :D
