sure, any class/character based game is far more advanced teamplay-wise, you can win 1v5/1v4 in 1.6 any round and anyone is interchangeable while in dota you simply cant do shit with some hardcore support hero, but got your own duties which aren't less important than kills to succeed

CS is a different kind of teamplay, its knowledge of where your teammates are at all times and that they have your back.

While moba are about setting up koordinated kills, hard to say which genre of teamplay requires the most.

Well, in cs you set up koordinate gos, fakes etc. Information is key. CS is pretty much aim+teamplay. That's it. Tactics don't matter that much as long as you aim well and your teamplay is decent (polish esc, ex-mym/penta) proofs kinda my point.

Moba requires teamplay but not more than some other fps.

Quake has like 50,000 ppl competing. So the top lvl is still pretty low. If we had some actual geniuses playing duel that can time like 10-11 items in all sorts of ways, like the health and calculate all sorts of nutty scenarios we'd have some insane matches. However the best we got is some godfreak counting 4 items and +backing.

LoL has MILLIONS of players of various intellect and skill, the tiers are fucking HUGE, and with so many ppl, the tricks and skills just keep climbing to separate the bad from the good.

LoL takes way more skill at the highest tier than quakelive does.

This is a meaningless statement because it can never be proven. Nor is there any point in trying to do so. So chill with the nerdrage.

It has more players but it's nowhere close to quake's skill level. Consider that QL is essentially q3 so the very same top players have been playing professionally (which is different than random online tournaments) for more than a decade. On the other hand LoL is 2 years old and the game changes massively every year, to the point some skills aren't transferred.

My personal experience is that I was top 150 for 2 months even though I'm terrible, carrying some of the very best ones of that game and getting carried by others.
I think there are about 50 players that are way above everyone else (at least on the NA server), but the game is too simple to allow big gaps between skill level, and in the end it is quite easy both to pick and to master (learn what every champ does, about 5 different builds, click where good players do and have good situation assessment. All those are not skills but rather experience) since it's a simplification of dota, which is a simplification itself.

LoL surely has lots of players and it's still growing exponentially, but the game is way too simple to even be considered competitive. I know videogames in general are and that those aren't comparable to sports or other real life competitions (chess, go, etc.), but LoL (the game itself) simply doesn't have the potential to have some complexity in the future. If you have a moba background you are surely going to dominate LoL.
Sure it's a fun game and all, but quake has a lot more skills involved and so do true rts games. Compare SCBW with LoL, lol.

just note how much the skill ceiling has increased in the past two to tree years. Watch games from 2009 and then games from Quakecon 2010, or 2011.

The skill required is proportional to the amount of players playing the game and the level of the competition. Mastering LoL probably takes longer than Quake but reaching the top, Quake is tougher for sure. Because it has been around longer.

LoL is a lot of teamwork, but honestly compared to Quake TDM or CTF, it's a joke.

One of the most important factors about those games is last hitting minions, so you can get a lot of gold. Sure you can zone them out to deny last hits, be agressive, and in DOTA2, deny their last hits, but at the end of the day, you're still waiting for a cpu minion to be low enough health for you to kill it.

There's very little "brain vs brain", until team fights (at least compared to Quake or SC). Yeah it takes skill, nothing compared to Quake though.

If anyone's interested, learn a good AP Carry in LoL (Brand, Cassiopea, etc), learn them well, learn to last-hit, learn what to buy, and you'll do just fine. There's so many awful and terrible people in this game. You could throw a Quake pro in LoL and they can do just fine after some practice. Throw a LoL player in Quake and they'll need much longer to get good.

Pretty much this. I don't understand how people can enjoy watching streams with 75% of the time players last hitting mobs. When I used to play a little bit of DotA few years ago and watched replays I always had them on 4x-8x speed, until the team fights/ganks happened.

If you only watch the games for the fights, you're missing out on all of the strategy. It's probably safe to say that MOBA/strategy games aren't for you.

Just because I much prefer to play that style doesn't mean that I can't play strategically in Quake or other games. :P I find it quite boring.

I cannot get over the fact that the abbreviation of the game is LOL. Seriously, they could have not picked a worse name. I played it once during beta and I was so insanely bored that I eventually gave up. Never liked DOTA either because I am not a fan of buying and combining items. Fucking boring that is.
