i play with 46ping now, used to have 70, rockets are MUCH better, plasma is MUCH better even hitscan lg feels soo much easier, only rail might be worse and what is most important, i can dodge with 45ping, something i couldn't do with 70.

That's probably because 45 ms is probably the most efficient ping to have in order to take advantages at its best from the current netcode.

What people complain mostly when they talk about you is how you keep saying you would be top3 duel player in no time if QL used a netcode that suits you.

Just get used to the netcode imo, it's totally not random, if it were, people who can aim good on this netcode (aka everyone except you) would complain aswell.

But it is impossible for me to judge because you can just win all games by jumping into fights you'd lose on lan... because you're used to online netcode and know that it's fairly impossible to correctly rape someone who jumps in like that (given certain ping differences).
I can tell however that if you'd play the same way you do online vs me on lan... you'd prolly lose all bo5's (where I prolly lose aerowalk and toxicity and win the other 3).
So online games don't really mean much imo... but they 'have to mean smth' because I can't qualify for lans if I don't win the online shitty ping only random cups ;). Which I found pretty frustrating...

The point being that the general tactical play in ql has dropped like mad compared to q3. I know many average q3 players who had better tactics (aka not based on netcode) than the current top online players.

I'm not stupid thats the difference, I can tell wether jumping into a fight would make me win this fight or not (mostly) and that's not me doing this all the time, rather calculating wether i'm on lan, at home with 20 ms or at home with 80 ms. I just play what's best according to the circumstances.

I can be a good testimonial since i had 60 ping last year, 20 ping during this year and 70 ping during last month.
On 20 ping your aim is more consistent. Personally i have around +10% with all weapons overall. But with higher ping you receive a lot less damage and it is way easier to dodge.
So yes, it is true that on higher ping you receive less damage but you give also less damage.

I am one of these fucking low ping whores with ping 15 on de. Sometimes I have bad routing to nl or uk then my ping goes up to 50 ms in the worst case. And suddently I hit everything with rail. Good acc do confirm this. So I think there is some truth in this. At least with rail. However other weapons and dodgin does suffer from high ping. Which makes it a disadvantage overall. This is why I would never give away my low ping.

It is true for rail and lg, on 70ms rail is kinda cheap, you just flick and click at the enemy and it hits all the times. With lg you just need to 'catch' enemy model and hes on your rope no matter how good is dodging, even corners doesnt help. :)
But every other weapon suffers a lot, try to shotgun kill someone, it's so annoying, you press the button and they dodge almost whole shot because of delay. Dodging is much harder as well, frustrating to be face-rocketed from 3 meters away.
And the worst part is that higher ping forces you to play like a damn rat! :c

so low ping vs a warping opponent is a benefit for the low ping player? A warping player is the worst to hit but he can hit you easily since you wont warp for him on his screen.

ping wise I prefer 40-60 since it makes me warp slightly (I've tested it) but It wont interfer my aim much.

If you are concerned with minor differences in ping and ways to change your settings to make it harder to hit you, then you're shit.

I've played a lot of 55-65 ping and a lot of 30 ping over about 30 days of play time. The latter has always been way better for everything, and that's speaking as someone who only has it on the Swedish servers that were absolute trash for like a year too...

As they say, given the choice I'd never, ever prefer to play on higher ping. Not noticed this magical "hit LG/RG without aiming" thing (maybe because I aim and know when I should and shouldn't hit..? Dunno how you guys play lol) and the difference with GL/RL/PG is so much bigger and more important that it's not even funny, not to mention deliberate dodging (timing strafes etc).

Nobody can deny wonky shit happens with "rails around corners" (tradeoff gladly made for having a playable game at "higher" pings) but I will say I get hit by those much more frequently and much more obviously by the ultra-LPB's, so it's hardly an argument for "high ping = advantage".

Played some more or less LG-only on a Polish server a while ago, 60-70 ms(?) in the lagometer, and according to the proposed theory I should've hit better rather than worse thanks to the magical leeway bonus. In this lab, experiments lead to this conclusion.

I'd say 40 ping is about the best ping atm, you don't really get a downside from rl/lg/pg lag, and u get a railgun that hits whenever it's somewhere in the general direction of the enemy. For that reason swedish servers nowadays are pretty perfect for that.

Then again, the rail seems coded so badly that sometimes when u hit a wall or pillar u actually hit the person behind it. This is most commenly seen on Troubled Waters or Ironworks.

who cares, you can hit a bit better lg with 60 + ms , overall it's very big disadvantage. so if guy with A 30 lose to guy with B 60 ms, if they could switch pings, score would be 2 times worse for A player.. Before start the big nerd rages here... i have to say this was MY experience.. i have 1 cablemodem and 1 adsl. (i never play with adsl cuz i have less than 10ms ping, and got hitted way way way more than cablemodem)

I have 2 ISP, so i tested some shit. IN MY EXPERIENCE.

Ping less than 10, vs ping more than 20 (increasing to 70) got raped against higher pings.... (cant dodge with 10 ping... cuz i got hitted after time... STUPID.)

ping <10 vs ping < 10 = FAIR MATCH

ping < 10 vs ping from 20 to 70 = low ping got rapped

ping 20 vs ping 20 = FAIR MATCH

ping 20 vs ping from 40 to 70... Low ping got rapped.

40 ping vs 40 ping = FAIR MATCH

40 ping vs 70 ping = not sure about this.

When there is a difference of more than 20/40 ping, higher ping got easier , than lower pings... i tested A LOT this shit, but again is my experience only, some ppl can say im wrong, but this is how i fell playing on inet now.

other thing, cl_timenudge is magic...

with 20 ms or less cl_timenudge -20 IS way way way worst than play with cl_timenudge 0.

with 40 ms or more cl_timenudge -20 makes a big difference.

I can play with 10, 20 or 40 ms, (not 70 , but after watching ppl playing against me with 60/80 ms, they hitted me.. from 40% to 50% of lg.... YES STUPID, when ppl with less ping hitted me less than 30%.... BIG difference.

i played with ping 55-65 for 3 months, played ping 15 many times, played 30-35 1 year and i'm on 25 right now. it was more or less impossible to not hit rails with ping 55-65 like exodus said it was enough to rail in the general direction it was absolutely ridiculous. with ping 20-25 like i got it now you see so many rails just going trough the enemies that i kinda started to believe i got hallucinations and see and rail enemies who are not there.

funniest thing is shafting vs a 35-45 ping player especially from ukr/pol etc. who got a pretty bad routing most times. you hit 5-10% more lg but they win the lg fight which is impossible and just ridiculous. they got a weird pressure on their lg that keeps pushing you away like hell it's just a joke.

i know some palyers that raising their lowping 15 to 35 to be a) able to hit better b) to be harder to hit and it's sad that you have to do that to be able to compete...

I played on 300 during q3 days, then 120, then 60. Those were the days. I was a noob and world was great.

Since QL started I played on 28-32 pings during closed beta. Had mid decent aim. Then I started switching things up. Sens, accel, hardware. My ping got worse, and still 2 years later I had mid high decent aim.
People I know that sport 20-30 ping have again and again had he mg/lg advantage over me and my 40.50 ping, still do.

Only times I hit insane things with hitscan weapons is when I predict and trail or shoot ahead of time.
I've tried playing on lower pings, feels different.

You get used to what you've got as you have it and invest time in practice and you get better.

I used to play duel/ca/insta only on UK servers, my ping was always 25 in lago meter / 40 in spec... Some days it felt like 25, other days it felt like 70.. bit strange?

i think these guys are confusing higher pingers being harder to hit ....with meaning skill. Thats false... they do not have an AIM advantage as the lower pingers do. They have a more defensive evasive advantage if you want to look at it like that. 45 ping is just the avg ping for most people across all servers. and the easiest to get adjusted to. its at the threshold.

because just as similar to 60 fps....anything above 50 ping becomes very noticeable. 50 to 70 is a huge noticeable diff where as 30 to 50 is not as noticeable. but still an adjustment.

I'm from Canada and I don't play on Toronto server because I lose 8-9% LG accuracy on 15 ping compared to the 30-40ms I get on VA and NY servers. This problem has been going on for at least a year, but when I started a thread about it people ridiculed me also. It takes good aimers to notice the weird behavior, which is why most people will make fun of you for suggesting 30-40 ping is better than 15. Sorry pal, but I know your pain.

your just more used to 30-40 ping. thats all that means to me.

and the natural reason for that. is because 40 ping is prolly your avg ping across all the servers you play on. simple as that.

40 ping is a good ping for most players to get accustomed to... so they don't have to adjust as much then say, when going from 20 to 60 ping.

if your used to 20 ping... adjusting to 60 is harder then if you were accustomed to 40 on avg. and vice versa.

and its natural occurrence if you play on a lot of diff servers across the country.

i find the difference between 125fps servers and qls 40 fps servers amazing. it actually feels like the weapons have a faster fire rate

Firstly it depends on your main weapon choices because I find that rockets [and plasma] are most affected by ping followed by LG then rail. I know some players who prefer to duel players who have nice rockets on a higher ping so there LG can be more effective by the fact the opponents rockets are weaker. Also there seems to be two different styles to shooting rockets, that is aiming for middies and aiming for the guaranteed splash damage. If you are aiming for middies all the time your rockets will be affected a lot on a higher ping.

As for hitting better LG on higher ping, if you are aiming at the model then LG acc should get better the lower the ping. But if you are used to aiming in front of the model etc. then I guess it depends. I guess its the same situation with aiming for direct rockets or the splash damage.

Having played on 70ms and 30ms...70ms feels terrible. My aim is definitely not better on 70ms.

The biggest difference I feel when playing the game on 70ms is that the game feels "floaty." Opponents seem to jump over my rockets easier, their lg seems to knock me back more...in fights I can feel a big disadvantage when I have 70ms and they have anything less.

As for <30ms I have no idea. But anyone who thinks 70ms can feel better than any ping lower than 70 is out of their minds.

i play mostly on 70 ping, and before i discovered cl_timenudge -20 i would take my "low" 40 ping any day. rl fights are much harder with higher ping, but im not so sure about lg.

now, im a ca:er (1v1, 2v2), means i play rl and lg, and a few rails here and there. i agree with you tho, the game feels better at my lower ping, but my shaft is better at 70 ping with timenudge -20.

if i were able to hit ~45% shaft on ping 70: would i really be out of my mind to want to play on that?

all tho, now im conflict with myself.

i just ended a all shaft war at 38% against a good player on my 40 ping (+ timenudge 0), something i rarely reach against good player on 70.

yeah, that might be it. i just changed crosshair, which usually gives me "high" and i will perform better than my average.

but, ~5%? i missed a lot of some easily tracked shaft, and i still were able to reach a higher % than i usually do.

it sounds so stupid, even tho its almost contricitive to myself: can you honestly believe 70 ping and timenudge -20 beats having 40 ping? it just sounds so unbelievable, but when simply judging by %, i shaft better at 70 ping (except this once???)

this is the first all shaft i played on 40 ping in the last half year, other than that its been mostly higher slots ca's where a lot of noobs doesnt dodge so i wont count them as anything reliable.

yes. many reasons why i shouldnt hit better at this ping: im "used" to having higher ping (bad reason, i aim the same at both pings), i changed crosshair, the game was played ~8 hours after my normal bed time. even tho my mental power peaks at that time, my physical is still weakening.

btw, the reason im making such a long entry to a single word-comment is because it's vargtimmen (translates to the hour of the wolf): the time at night when all yar friends have gone to bed, and you're bored out of your mind between ~04-12 AM.

that may not bee too uncommon, years back in cs i always felt it easier to hit after strafing left (when doing strafe left->burst, strafe right->burst ->repeat) hehe :D

That's normal, everyone has a weak side for tracking depending on whether you are left or right handed.

who ever said 70ms is better than 15ms, needs to take a crash course on networks. The lower your ms is, the quicker the server receives your information. Meaning the lower ms you have the better registry of shots you will have. That's my two cents worth.

Nowadays people think the intra-/extrapolation done by client and server favours certain ping ranges. But I've yet to see someone reasonable testing/prooving it.

i mostly play on ping <15 (on nl/de servers) and i felt that the few matches i played on higher pings (~60) i was only able to hit rail in a quite normal way, all the other weapons felt worse ( ok my lg is generally not too good.. roughly 30%, when im really warmed up i happen to play matches with 40%...it always takes me lots of time to get into the "sync-strafe-aiming-mode" )
RL is unplayable on ping 60 if ur used to play on 10... it feels like your own rockets are being shot from next to you or even behind you when ur moving. (not saying that its impossible, there are ppl who assrape me legit with RL on ping 90) but it felt so bad that i didnt even want to try to adapt to it and quit after 2 duels to go play dota :<

btw I dont know any game where you can play and hit oppponents with 70ms ping because its physically impossible. 70 ping didnt work in q3, in cs and every other 1st person shooter BUT IT WORKS IN QL. ITS MAGIC! So when you agree to that 70 ping doesnt work out in any 1st person shooter than how could ql make the magical thing a guy with 70 ping win a lg vs lg fight vs a 20 ping? Its just impossible and thats proof enough that there is sth wrong at higher pings.

BC2 do this in a very strange way, because the server pings you back and the two values are added up to form a round-trip time and that value is even coupled with the packet processing time to generate the number what is displayed on the scoreboard.

This is a much more accurate method to get a clue about your latency, but you can see your "real" (quake-ish) ping in the browser before you connect.

even css has a garbage netcode. Lots of lag and through shots with 30 ping even. I really don't know what game does it better.... So i can't understand how you guys can even talk all this crap. This game is super fast paced and still feels less laggy then any other fps i ever played.

In the USA is prehistorical internet infrastucture; I think so. Ping about 35-50 has much better efficiency from my point of view; on DE servers. I play using ping 16-17. QL netcode is optimized to suit well for all North America players in average, cause of high distances between villages and prehistory in that infrastructure, as I mentioned to me believing that it is reality. I play not in Germany, but I have better pings than 95 percent of germans. This makes me displeased. no more opinions
