Hektik is a boring map. But BF not played at all, so its a good idea tho. Would rather see a 3rd map instead replacing BF...

It's just incredibly forgettable.

I think maps that havent been overplayed are good maps to watch. Because on these maps you can actually do smart things and surprise your opponent.
On the current DH maplist everyone knows how to play every map perfectly. Which leads to slower games, and 1 small mistake or opponent survive with 1 hp in 1 fight can win the whole game....
This is why battleforge COULD be more fun to watch, but is still not as good as other maps.

nobody ever picks battleforged so it makes sense

it's dropped cause it's not in any mappool, so it's a waste of time to play it

imo best mappool in quake is t7, ztn, dm13, tox and hub. hektik is too much like tox and hub (small fast paced map with all 3 major weapons) and is the worst of the 3. t7, ztn and dm13 is for variety.

agree with this, although i wish a good no-rail map would come along and replace dm13...doubt that will ever happen though. always want a ztn replacement too, though the map is just such a classic and always provides good games

how is tox any better than hektik seriously ? Tox is the worst map ever when out of control, even worse than aero...

for me, i am much more comfortable playing tox out of control than I am for aero/hektik... also im a noob

i personally like it more. i think tox has more options when out of control than in hektik.

I like both maps, but hektik has better defensive positions due in part to the height differences in floors, similar to aero. Tox is more flat compared to most maps.

flat maybe, but in tox you got almost always at least 3 exits. in hektik you are fucked if you want to move from YA to GA or vice versa. but i'm not against hektik.i just think they should replace battleforged with some other map. or toss out tox or hub if they want to include hektik.

Hektik is good, but Battleforged needs to be brought back in. A lot of people had good things to say about it for it's Quake III debut, and got a positive review at LvL. Plus they fixed the sound issues that everyone screamed about, yet apparently that isn't good enough for them. The RA and MH are far away from each other, (just like any good duel map) you got good vertical action, and it's a decent pace. Some of the most intense matches in QL duel took place on here.

It may not be the best map ever, but at least it is better (imo) than that two-story snooze-fest of a map called Dismemberment. And control-wise it is better than Hektik because you can't just drop down from RA and get MH if you had the opportunity.

What major differences were there in Q4 that made phrantic more played? I mean I know there was crouch slide, but that can't be the only reason its not played in QL.

You could shoot through teles, and the ramp jumping in the YA corner was critical.

Who knows? I like playing the QL version... The original QL version did have a rail though, which was obviously removed. Maybe that gave people a sour taste for the map.

You know... Seams and Bolts actually might make an okay tourney map. Someone who tested it said the spawns were bad though, but it can always be changed.

+Hektik, but I like Battleforged, so I'd rather kick Lost World by now.

Stupid promode gameplay crashes QuakeLive. Promoders think that small maps against campers, but there are no campers since 2002. They died like dinosaurs.

Also promoders think that 1 ya on map very good. But only 3 devices- for stupid.

Also promoders think that Quake it's for shooting only, and those who pick up devices ra mh ya - like cheater. And they turn off timer in one of their gameplay.

bo5 is severely needed for offline events, bo7 is ok for online events (but changing the maps around every so often is healthy)

dm13: has to stay till there's a good substitute (defensive and / or no rail)
t7: has to stay
toxicity: has to stay
ztn: has to stay for now probably
aerowalk: has to stay for now probably
hektik: only in a 7-mappool with aero + toxicity, or as a substitute to one of those in a 5-mappool

t4: too bad it was never an option for duellers new to ql to practice it, because of the famous early IEM pool, I like watching it, but nobody plays it really anymore, out
battleforged: it has nothing special, nobody plays it, out
dm6: a possibility, but there's too many "smaller" 3-item maps atm anyway
t9: I personally love it, but there's too many criticism about how people play it defensively (hide in ra-ya, +back tele, pg spam), I'm personally missing the vertical element
dismemberment: "too" balanced gameplay, none of the action happens in the open usually, it's just corner spam or rails till someone has an advantage, boring games @ recent IEM, out, even though it's still liked in the CIS states


phrantic/concretepalace: could be worth a try, were dismissed by the players so far tho

you'd want the competition to be at the best level for the few LANs you get per year

you'd want the players to be good at every map instead of horrid ragequits and 20:0's

it's good for the spectator and for the player

If there was only 5 good maps like in 2009, I could understand, otherwise I don't think 7 is too many.

All the top duelers are familiar with the 7 most frequently used maps in ql. You wouldn't see 20:0 games as a result of map knowledge.

If id decides to add those two maps, that is. Let's hope they do it sooner than later.

I think rotating the maps a bit sounds like a good idea. We have more than enough suited maps for duel at the moment.
Pick 5 maps for every cup out of:
ztn, aero, dm13, dm6, t4, t7, t9, bf, dism, phrantic, hektik.


And make it pick first instead of drop so we acutally see some of the lesser known maps.
