i think there is a lack of effort in the community in general to master the movement on new maps. people used to be all over these jumps, mastering them and getting every edge they can. nowadays some players try it out but it takes ages till people catch up and most only use essential ones in the end. its mind boggling how many good players still not constantly use the edge clipping at jumppads where is saves you time or is more secure.

old, and there is also a "new" movement for u @ purga go from basement pg to lower rail jumppad, but u strafe to the right and u bouce ur head into the ceiling, so u get directly to the rail and not the above rail sugs ammo. Also there is a place at ra window, the hallway u can rocketjump above it and walk on the edges. etc etc.

old, nah just kidding. cool jump, really useful when you have to attack into someone who defends rail.
more people should share this kind of stuff here. we could use more quake and less raythenoob.

It's much easier to get hit with this jump. Only useful if you know exact rail timing and there is no enemy sitting on it.

hmm, you are in the open but at least you have the element of surprise and its not like you can get from the regular route to rail without taking heavy damage.

in the end it depends a lot on the weapons, doesnt it? if you attack with a rl or even plasma from below, you will take damage no matter what but will at least be directly in their face and they cant avoid taking damage themself.
the few times i have seen someone do this it worked well, but maybe that will change when the defender is actually ready for that move

It's more like gambling.

As long as it's not so popular, it sometimes works. But unless you catch him totally offguard - the usual way seems to be more efficient. With most weapons it's a LOT easier to shoot from top and after you get initial predicted rocket your enemy has to either gamble and try to direct hit you or simply shoot roof for less but guaranteed damage. Especially with the fact that only some of your model is visible, you can also abuse crouch etc etc.

You could do it when enemy already has rail and you suspect that he doesn't have anything else or when your mates distract him so you want to get in and dish out heavy dmg asap.

I think all these happens quite rarely and I don't advise to use the jumppad when you suspect/know that a guy standing there has RL (what is actually quite common).

It's a way to avoid pre-fired prediction rockets, and if lucky, catch a guy off-guard.
