(for those here who have played BF3)

Is it as boring and dull as every other FPS game out there?

Don't think so:

- no spectators possible;
- no replays;
- no warmup mode;

But I saw some tournaments of BFBC2 - and this is the best thing if you want to fall asleep fast...

Yeah I agree, a nice change with a completely different game for me. Never flown a plane or driven a tank b4. I am have just done level 12 and looking 4ward to the next. Think there are 20 in total. Multiplayer looks nice with all the stas and achievements you can gain over time.

Out would be more like "Forza motorsports 4 is out lets stop playing need for speed". Both battlefield 3 and quake are FPS games and they do have quite a few players that will play both style of games. With battlefield 3 out, there will most likely be a bit lower activity on the QL servers.

Whats all the talk about origin supposed to be some kind of spyware and let EA look/upload all your computer files due to the licence agreement? :)

Also BF is usually ok for a while but its heavily achievement stacked, esp this one. As in you get more damage etc for playing longer (WoW anyone?), while cod balances it out more with ROF and stuff at least

I have alot of fun playing this with friends on ts/vent. You can just team up in a squad and fuck around on the entire map doing whatever you want (64 player servers). Drive a car, a tank, a heli or jet or just run around as inf. As of now nothing feels particularly OP, but balance issues will probably arise when all the different gadgets/weapons start getting unlocked.

The tight inf maps are just a COD (?) grind fest with nades/rockets and people spraying bullets and aren't appealing other than to rack up lots of points to unlock things faster.

The most fun is flying a chopper with a friend or just buggying around in a car, capping flags and taking out other inf or tanks.

Game is still very laggy at times and unstable, hope it will be fixed =/

skilth makes it a whole new game, and better then battlefield, skilth is the closest you will get to proper tactical running around, with controllable vehicles, etc etc etc

when i finish it, it will have random maps on your servers for objective and stopwatch gametypes. and maybe some other stuff

its nothing like quakewars, all strogg player/weapons/deployables/awards have all been replaced with GDF. both team are exactly the same, using the same classes/weapons/vehicles/awards

new effects/player speeds etc. the mod just needs better and more complex maps for todays hardware.. and it can be battlefield, explodable buildings can be made custom to each map with new entitydefs and scripts

Like all previous Battlefields the server you play on completely changes how good or bad the game is. If you get on a server where people are actively looking to fight and take objectives then the game is great, if not then it's totally fucking boring. Once the negative accel problems are fixed the game will be much more enjoyable for me.

The negative accel is a pain in the arse. You could increase your sens to v high, which would sorta counter it, but you would then have to change movement from hand to minute finger movements.. Alternatively stick some accel on, as this seems to counter it to a small extent.. not a perfect solution though..

LOL. My flying is getting better, but Ihave had some mares with it. The last one was a vertcal climb becuase I was going into dead mans zone. Then it also said I was going out of bounds... So I had no altgernative to eject. Took me about 5 minutes to parachute down to earth, made a cuppa and still was up there.. :)

Bought it and can't play it because nvidia has fucked up the drivers for the dx10 only cards. Framerate is good even on ultra but there's just too much frame skipping for my taste (even on low). Shadows are fucked too, though I don't really care about that.
Dx11 and ATI users are fine though (fun to see ATI doing it right and nvidia fucking it up this time).

It's the not the kind of game I can take seriously so I hardly ever play to win but just piss about with explosives, vehicles and shit.

Origin+web browser+PB+the game is completely ridiculous.

There's a Razor1911 'patch' out that apparently allows you to skip Origin entirely, and just use Battlenet/Battlelog or whatever it is. (you still need the un-pirated BF3)

I have not tried it myself, as I don't have BF3.

Just thought I'd put it out there, in case anyone would want to know.

server lag has been reduced already and hopefully will get completely eliminated with more patches, also Tehran Highway seems to suffer the most from lag, a map issue i guess.

also a tip, turn hyperthreading off in ur bios if ur cpu has it, it made my game go from stuttering to (almost :P) silky smooth

Crack doesn't mean shit, the game is yours(tho I am sure EA won't like that). The only problem is they can wash their hands with "modifyed exe=ilegal/cheat". You just need to read the agreemend, if it's not writen there, they can't do shit to you :).

Well tbh, I'm one of the persons who thinks that PB is a very usefull tool, you just have to configure it correctly because the default setup/settings are pretty much useless.
On my Q3 servers, I caught cheaters as late as 2008 with cvar-checks/walks and md5-tool combined.
Ofc it won't detect private and advanced cheats, but it's still much better than nothing and if it can only catch just one cheater, it's already worth it.

I used to think it would be shut down too, but i strongly believe they both know a new quake game will not come out of their company for a very long time (perhaps 10 years or more), so it's quite possible they'll try to keep ql afloat until then at the very least.

So before we get into another long debate, i'm agreeing with you that the logical thing for them to do is to shut ql down, but i dont' believe it will happen in this case based on how things have progressed to date.

I think the single player is quite exciting,
so far I only played one of these war-action, call of duty MW2 ...
that was quite a blast.
I think Battle Field 3 will elevate this on a new level and will be fun fun fun :-) ... but after Bf3 I guess will have had my dose with these kind of games :-)

I will for sure give the MP a shot, but if I will ever play a fps competetively again it will only be a Quake/Doom Title ...
what I really have to do once in my life is playing with microphone and these integrated speech transmission in multiplayer games ... but I guess I will only hear 13 and 14 year old kids talking nonsense ... lol ...

From my experience in battelfield (it s huge) it s great game with large playerbase. Extremely fun when playing with a proper team (at least 6 people). But from quake point of view it s pure shit. You have rly low amount of space to tweak it to your liking. Especially mouse options. High amount of bugs and exploits overall. Dont get me wrong cause battlefield was never individual or aim heavy game. Only teamplay and brains will get you points or win in wars, aim is not a priority.
Worth buying if you want to have some fun with m8s.
p.s. only multiplayer is worth it.

Definately fun with mates. A good part for me is that it has internal squads A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H (4 players each), so that if you are playing with your fiends on a server you can squad up & all work an objective together. You can also spawn off each other if you die at the same location they are still alive at, so you can always be close and in the thick of the action as a team.

i dont know if you're trolling but..... if you're insisting ql isn't one of the worst communities on the net then you're simply lying through your teeth. I can only count on one hand the number of people i've seen helping others in this game when i was playing ctf 8 hours a day. Charliebrown, jones, gpig, seanage and clampok. That's it. And if i wasn't banned i'd have the most playtime out of everyone on ql so you can just imagine the ratio of assholes to nice guys based on that anology. It's piss poor. In bf3, i've been helped by over a dozen people already and i haven't even asked most of the time.

There are young people playing every game, but young does not equal immaturity. Immaturity presents itself in any age group. But really, the people i've played with sounded like they were in their 20's. Sounds more like propaganda to get people to keep playing ql. Sorry bud, ql has no future. The ammount of people that play QL is irrelevant to me, as long as i can play a couple of duels when i have time and want to, im ok with it. So far every single time i wanted to play a duel i got someone connected to a server of my country real quick. I don't care if BF3 is played by millions, Quake is still a better game. I don't care about pro-gaming because it's a joke, so as long as there is a couple of people playing when I want to play it's all I need.

Im not saying BF3 will not be a fun game. In fact im installing the, of course pirated torrent one to test a bit and see how it works on my PC. Not buying it until the Origin scam is solved.

ye had the excact same thing with bc2, played it insanely much for a while with mates but it gets real boring, real quick. its a cool change from quake but just like everyone says, it wont last.

most who played both quake and then bc2 has come back to quake and those who didnt play quake are gamehopping just like mainstream gamers, simply because the games have no true depth and really dont offer much beyond pubgames

Well, I think CS:S is 75, right?

For me, that feels like looking through a pair of toilet paper rolls.

I get dizzy and disorientated.

I play with 130 FoV in Quake Live and 142 in UT.

Any idea if that 90 FoV in BF3 is 'corrected' like it is in QL?
What I mean is, a 90 FoV in QL is actually 106 (or something like that) in Q3, if your'e on 16:9.

EDIT: Tested in singleplayer mode. (Multiplayer may be different I am not sure: 70 for with these monitors seem fine for multiplayer)

Well I have tried a 2233rz @ 1680x1050 and a XL2410T @ 1920x1080 and at 60 70 80 90, and nothing changes swhnen i change fov. They seem to be maxed out already!! (So for crt's I take it your not going to see fov advantage over these monitors)

The 1920x1080 does however get about 1 inch either side more view than the rz, which is interesting, but the down side is that is more frame intensive being more to process, but if you can preccess it then it is better :)

The other way to increase the fov higher is to go windowed more, and lower the vertical height and the horizontal seems to incresase!!! Frames are not too bad as there is less to process.. So you may be able to get your wide ass fov then, with a vertical sacrifice..

Going to the extreme, if you are crazy, spread it over 2 similar monitors in windowed mode and it increases even more! :) I don't know about full screen cus the drivers don't let me do it with two monitors attached. Hope this helps :)

bear in mind tho - bfbc2 and from what i read - bf3 all use vertical fov in their settings and need a calculator to set horizontal fov (same as qlive)...

i had to calculate mine in bc2, in this however just started using 90 and it seems fine.

Funny guy,, and this is a total piss take. From what he said, COD sounds good. I have not played COD b4, but have the MW3 on order so will compare it then. If there are more enemies all the time, then that will be better.. But this guy is a dumb ass, it is so obvious that he is doing that shit on purpose. He walks past the vehicle on spawn, purposely goes away from the directional pointers on the maps on the right had side, where the action is changing from blue (his team) to orange.. Not rocket science to work out that the enemies who have orange trianges over their heads are going to be at the orange zones... Ironically he walks past the guy who killed him with the mortar at 4.54 and doesn't even notice him lol..

The two games are completely different anyway. MW3 is almost exactly the same as CoD4, they just add some gimmicky shit every release, this time the groundbreaking new gimmick is multiple scopes on the same gun, what an amazing innovation that is.

If it's anything like MW2 it will be fun to just terror people who suck at FPS games with overpowered killstreaks over and over again, I played close to 200 hours of MW2 and nearly always enjoyed it. But if it's anything like BlackOps it will be a total piece of shit.

He is a Cod fanboi, what did you expect. He's probably used to running around like a headless chicken killing 50+ enemies each round. Well Battlefield can also be like that if you're skilled enough (which obviously he isn't) but it's more about teamplay rather than solo play. Doing it with friends in squads of 4 or more BF3 is one of the most fun experiences I had on multiplayer in a long time.

Conquest is just one of the modes you can play in BF3 so if you don't like running after flags you can try Deathmatch or Squad deathmatch or Rush. Want pure fragging, go Deathmatch. Want pure fragging with mates, go Squad Deathmatch. etc etc

This guy should GTFO back to his CoD console faggotry.

I can play now, YAY.

Well it's a fun casual game and I can have a decent time with a couple of mates on Mumble.
It's not much different from BFBC2 though, so I will get bored of it even faster :/

I can't stand one minute of the game if I'm not with friends (preferably on voicechat) though, it's just boring as fuck and it makes me fall asleep.

BF3 is a fun game. But, I've quickly learned that it needs to be played in moderation. Those people playing 60 (!!) or more hours a week are going to burn out VERY fast. Hell, you might even burn out on less time than that. I've decided to cut back on this game and maybe play it once every few days in order to preserve the novelty.

But it seems that in the BF3 downtime there is not much to look forward to FPS gaming wise. Return to QL, which gets even more dead/stale by the day, or buy Modern Wa.....hell no, I'm not buying that shit :D It is a sad state of affairs for FPS in general these days it seems

I agree, I started off playing a lot in the beginning, went lvl 30 rather quick then I felt I'm overplaying it. So taking a small break then going back at it. Playing it with friends on voice-comms is tons of fun.

Nothing other than sitting in vehicles, on hills as snipers, or in corners. It's fucking horrible.

Nevermind the fact that every server seems to run the 64 player versions of the maps, so even when playing on a 24/32 player server you're spread across the map thinner than a gypsy's butter.

Perhaps you could try some BC2,
- "better" squad management, (still useless compared to older bf games)
- it's more focused on Infantry combat,
- maps are smaller
- snipercunts can't prone.
- the game is very similar, lots of fun until you hit your skill celling (around level 30), shit boring after

looks like those are the things you have problems with in bf3.

I played a shit tonne of BC2 on 360 and later some on PC, and again, I found it annoying as shit on PC - but those gripes were largely also part of my later 360 experience.

Really though, it just really fucks me off having retarded teammates and an enemy team I can't punish properly because I'm on my own with nobody else to play and actually communicate with. I've got.. lets see.. I've got 83 hours on 360 and am rank 50 there, and it's fun as fuck because you can actually chat to people in your party without some pain in the arse way to set it up - Not to mention that I only know 3/4 people who even have this on PC.

It's just a game, all of which I play to have fun, and I can't have fun if everyone else is stupid as fuck or plays like a prick. The former is worse.

Consoles aren't as bad at FPS as you think, you can get surprisingly good. I have a keyboard & mouse adapter (xim3) and I'm not even using it, I don't even really feel hindered.
