aside from that what do you mean regarding sightseeing, the place has no regular places to visit unless you go to DC. in itself its not too bad once you get used to it. Main thing about these american "small cities" is that they are spread so much that the distances are great so that'll surprise you. Better have a car ready asap because nothing is ever close.

I'm well aware of all the things you stated - military city and huge distances.

It's been two weeks now.

I tend to play in the morning hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday - usually waking up at 8, leave QL open with +forward on an empty server. It's nearly impossible to get a duel going, maybe people play more in the evening, but it's really hard to get a duel in the morning.

I finally met undertaker12 - flame and bashing without any basis ensued as soon as I managed to pull off a few frags - I reckon not the best welcome.

I see up to 8 people spectating a duel and not one of them joins an empty server and tries to get a match going, seems like spectating is all people do around here. Most people are nice and friendly, some are just plain jerks, not much difference from the EU duelling scene.

I haven't been able to finish all my duels, there's no timeout/pause function on public servers so I might suddenly disappear during a duel, sowy :c

As for the state (VA) itself, people are incredibly friendly and super-lazy, I now understand why some people dislike Christians - that shit is just messed up and gets thrown to your face on every step, there's like 3 churches on the same exact spot, 50meters of distance between each of them. The commercials on TV are long and very frequent - about 90% of them are about food, food, and more food - Even if you're not hungry at all, watching the TV for half an hour will make you hungry.


And what's up with the wicked toilets? is there a way for a man to piss without waking up the neighbours? I prefer to piss in silence, but due to the silly toilet design, it's almost impossible not to make "splashy" noises. I've been developing new techniques on a daily basis in order to piss as silently as possible.

You can hear police sirens all the god damn time, even gunshots from time to time. Neighbourhoods with predominantly African Americans are littered and untidy - you can clearly see the borders between Caucasians and African Americans.

All in all I kinda like it so far, I could write more about my experience in here, but I guess you just need to come here and experience it for yourself -

it's good you didn't play ctf, you wouldn''t find a game at all till after 11 normally. And, in case you haven't tried, you may notice noone played tdm. You should try bf3 man, way better game and tons of people playing all times of the day.

I've tried dueling you before. You left after one game, even though I only won by like 3 frags, then immediately joined another server afterwards. Then the next game you went afk half way through when you started losing. Maybe people just don't feel like dealing with your shit.

Hope you like pubbing CA. Its about all you can find over here. At least it'll be low ping pubs for you since you live way southeast :)

and yea the spectating thing is really strange. When Nx was practicing with UFX before Quakecon / Dreamhack our servers would always be full of spectators. I never once saw any of them even try to play the game at any point though. I really wish some of them had, since there is now no clans at all left in the scene.

Also I've idled in FFA servers all day even without any games starting haha. Like I've said before... dire doesn't even come close to describing how bad its become over here.

edit: wait, you're only here for 3 months? Thats nothing then dude.. hardly enough time to get very rusty. I haven't played a tdm pcw in 6 months now... (and i've wanted to nearly every day)

I disagree. The way I saw it, only the best or friends of the best players were allowed to play tdm pick ups. After an hour of waiting and not getting to play, one gets discouraged from ever trying to play a pick up again. Both parties are to blame. The higher level players for being exclusive, and the mid-upper tier players for not starting their own pick ups.

Regardless, I think the root of the problem is that most quakers are getting older and have more work/social responsibilities. SC2, LoL, WoW, ect are thriving because they have player bases full of young nerds who live with their parents and may lack the social skills to venture too far from their computer rooms.
