Wow. Walk 15 seconds. Shoot a guy for 2 seconds. Repeat indefinitely. If you're going to make a rails shooter you better make it an insane cluster fuck like Gears of War or CoD. If you're going to make a game light on the shooting, you better make it heavy on on the sandbox, ala Fallout. Seems like id did neither. Gears of War is going to shit on this game. Hard.

I've pre-ordered it, and I know it's got a pretty damn big buzz going. Honestly, as the creators of Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake, ID can pretty much do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned.
I just don't see the point in buying any of those games again, so the only logical way to give them more money, since I've gotten much more enjoyment out of Quake 3 Gold Edition than the 3.99 I paid for it, I'll just buy their new titles instead.

If you just want to support the company (and also send a message), why not just buy a ton of gift copies of their games on steam, and give them away?

Borderlands with good graphics, but no loot hook? Or at least not seeing any focus on it in these new videos. Dead Island probably has more replayability.

How's Dead Island fun factor? Can you go around killing a lot of zombies freely ala GTA or are you very limited and linear and forced to do shitty missions?

It's about as linear as Borderlands, you can go around freely killing stuff and exploring with limits on certain things. You have limited access to certain areas until you've reached them in the story, for example there's a police station which you can walk up to and stand by the entrance, but you can't use the entrance until you've completed that part of the story. The game is fairly fun but at times you feel like there are too few zombies around, although in contrast to L4D the zombies are actually somewhat challenging in larger groups.

Co-op is a blast, knocking over a thug and watching everyone run up and start curb stomping never gets old.

Between unplayable crashing/graphics issues, new system requirements changed at the last minute, console port menu system with no graphics options, vsync issues, widescreen issues, BSODs, and terrible reviews for the actual gameplay/story, id have done it again!

Glad I didn't buy it, but this looks grim for Doom 4.

It's not available in my country atm, but reviews like this makes me wonder: after this many years(!), why they still can't hire somebody who actually have a clue what makes a game a good one?
I'm mean, imagine you can design an action game with one of the best possible 3D engine on the planet (while you can work with the most talented people in the industry and - in the meantime- earn a shit load of money btw), and all you can do is this???

the worrying thing for id is if a bunch of people on forum can say its a 7/10 game 2 years before release (and that's with stunning visuals-whichi s worth at least 1.5) then why can't they see it and turn it into a 9/10 game?

They simply can't design 9/10 games anymore. watching this video was painful for me, cos 10 years ago I would have said the game play is tired, yet its nearly 2012 and its all here.

I was an big Edge fun in the 90's, but they softened up since imo, and this doesn't mean they should gave RAGE 5/10 or 6/10, but it means I just can't really trust them anymore like I did once.

But this is a no-win situation sadly, because if you keep being honest (honestly telling your readers about the awesome and the bad things as well) devs just wont send you any prelease stuff, because they can find other well marketinged and popular magazines who will be happy to write whatever you want:)

I like slash&hack games, GOW was one of my favorite. You play an hour and you find yourself very fresh and relaxed when you are done:)

bayonetta is a good game with creative visuals, but i've played far better hack n slashers in the past that weren't given 10's. dmc3, gow etc (dmc3 is my fav.)

the game looks a bit dark and busy, detail wise. Perhaps it's just the mission. Overall, i like the weapons, music and graphics. Not sure about the gameplay yet. Hoping user submitted videos start popping up on youtube. For now, based on the problems iv'e seen with the pc side of things, it's probably better to wait. Not sure i expected more from id but it's still shocking to see how little id tests their games before release to the point that numerous people can't even play it yet. Brings back memories of ql with punkbuster issues...
