Well, where to start?

I think first of all its good to see zhu came forward, even if he was very aware of the pending video and knew he was screwed :p infact he'd have very likely seen "preview footage" of specific segments but regardless of that, doing it this way is far less cringeworthy than the way Jaz handled things for sure.

I think without a doubt pretty much all leagues will be handing out a lengthy ban and with good reason. Theres no doubt that if this sort of thing became far more widespread then it'd ruin the game we all enjoy playing fairly.

I've never had anything personal against zhu and the same applies for the vast majority of the people involved with CSI:QL (omg omg! :)). He's very aware himself that he's done wrong on this one and i'd not want to be him tomorrow explaining all of this to the action guys ;) .

This was all totally about busting a cheater and gathering conclusive evidence to do so and nothing else. Its all about respect for your teammates and equally your opposition on a level playing field and unfortunately ath/zhu has cheated in a lot of games over at least a 3-4 month period, including ones with prize money on it.

The bigger thing here is not just about zhu but what this actually means. I'm hoping tomorrow morning that current cheaters read esreality and start to worry that the soothing light at the end of their tunnel, is just the CSI:QL freight train coming their way :p but jokes aside i very much doubt this'll be the last one but it'd be nice to think it would be wouldn't it?

Its obvious this is also a personal vendetta for draven, but props to him for and csi:ql brain team (:D:D:D) for the video I guess, still need to show this stuff.

And yeah, despite the incoming (and deserved) bans, zhu did the right thing by confessing, even if it might be because he knew he got caught, still much better then jaz and many other cheaters handled it like Q50 says above. Maybe this will be a good example for future (or current???) cheaters.

hmmmm there's 3 situations where you can really attribute his stuff exclusively to wallhack. namely it's japan, dm14 (at quad) and beginning where he shafts litium. rest is just bullshit, had to laugh on dm20, you obviously hear there's guy in ra and he looks down to shoot at him (because once again, he can hear someone's down there)... think the brain team should first find a brain for themelves before putting all sorts of crap in supposedly cheat videos. think you'd never catch him if he wasn't dead obvious on those 2-3 situations i named.

I agree on a couple of those DM20 situations, but if you then go and watch the entire Dreadful Place demo for example, you barely go a minute at a time without something absurdly obvious.

It's a shame really, the ESH TDM final was so great, but now it's completely ruined and won't be looked back on as an awesome win by aCtion. It's going to be remembered as that time where a confirmed cheater won an online event with prizes.

Yeah, those Hidden Fortress situations are weak. Sound + basic map knowledge and situational awareness (guy hiding at plasma spawn wanted to go to shaft room, he wouldn't drop down). It's a kind of stuff that won't make others believe you in next episodes, you should hunt for more clear proof.

Or take Purgatory for example, I did the same thing few times - I see mates' triangles at RA, I hear them shooting and getting hit (yes, you hear that with triangles on), so I will spam at the corridor before even seeing enemy, as often enemy caught in 1v2 situation will try getting 50 and escaping that way.

I loved the Ironworks footage though :)

And the intro is distilled win :)

even with that scene, most people spam the ra as soon as they come through that tele just to be on the safe side. only argument you have is why he looked at the jump pad 3 times... but you could argue he may have had a feeling someone was going to come from pg and go right up the jump pad i guess. i dunno, i would say that one is shady to say the least... /shrug

If the fact wasn't that he admitted that he cheated, I think this cheat accusation and its evidence should have been heavily contested by the community.

The only 'obvious' action is the very first one in the video. (and that could have been pure luck/coincidence)
The rest of the evidence is really nothing spectacular, and strikes me to be rather weak.

And are we really going to ban on one, single fishy action?
If so, get ready for shitloads of bans coming left and right. Most of them to surface due to personal vendettas.

You've got to be careful of what you're opening the door for here.
If the evidence presented in this care is allowed to set a precedence for all future cases, then you might very well see a lot of innocent players banned/publicly smeared.

And once someone is publicly smeared, general paranoia grips the community. Next time some clan/player loses to the accused player, the losing party will be screaming and yelling "Cheater!".
That quickly snowballs into personal vendettas, and ultimately innocently banned players.

I urge everyone to be highly critical of whatever accusations will surface in the future.
Study the evidence as neutrally as you can.

Well done! Glad you caught this fucker. Even if he confessed, he's still a dickhead, just like jaz. Both used a cheater for a long periode and in competition where money was involved. I don't care if he confessed or not.

There are still few players around who play on a high level and probably cheat. Problem with a wallhack is that its hard to spot.

I'm sure if you dig a thousand or so demos from anyone you could find something off, or weird, or cheater like. Includi9ng some of the best players on the scene or pro players alike.

I don't care really, if he admitted, took his ban, doesn't have a chance to troll on, it's a plus. From a complete bystander point of view this seems a lot like DP and trolling ftw vs draven and all. Misdirected efforts by DP, unconstructive in any case!

I have to agree to an extent. I think if you gather enough demos, enable shownormals and put some slowmo on you can accuse so many players of using wallhacks. Got lucky that this guy actually uses one and admitted to using it.

Really it shouldn't be a community watchdog type thing to expose cheaters, gathering up video clips and hoping the guy comes clean. While this video has 2-3 clips that look pretty suspicious, he probably could have just claimed innocence and that would have been the end. QL needs an anti-cheat program is the bottom line.

EDIT: Actually, let me add something else. I think videos like this would be a lot more convincing if the entire video showed the same suspicious behavior over and over. Example: getting him checking RA on c7 10 times instead of just once would be more convincing than a bunch of random clips.

The real problem is that he is not alone. I am almost certainly sure there are handfull of people like him. I saw so fucking big number of players going from C to A class after id removed pb. Why? Because before you needed custom hack(witch is expensive, yuka had it). Now? Google it for 5mins. Anticheat is needed!

Yeah, I've always wondered the same.

I can see someone starting up Quake or whatever first time, then realising he sucks at it, then immediately install an aimbot, and wins some games.
But for how long is that fun? 20 minutes?
I'd get bored shitless very quickly.

Just is a mystery to me how someone can play for years, and then still/suddenly start to cheat.
The fun in online gaming is improving and thus getting satisfaction from same.
How can there be satisfaction when you know your 'improvement' is fully artificial? Makes no sense.

I can see how they can help, you've a constant insight on what your opponent is doing and you ALWAYS 100% know where they are. Do that in constant dueling, and im fairly sure you'll improve dramatically, even after turning it off.

I watching this over and over again, and imo, these are not evidences of a WH. There are some very suspicious situations indeed, but nothing what could be enough for a permaban from a game without a confession (what we luckily have in this particular case).

Moreover, - even if it was the right thing to do - you provided another warning for the next high-skilled WH-her what he should never do if someone is spectating him.

The competitive scene is almost out of weapons in the war for the fair-play:/

edit.: when I said "what he should never do if someone is spectating him" I meant: "what he should never do if someone can spec him" like he should never do it if he plays online... sorry for my English (but the original line is also OK logically)

MVDs would be a different story. Then it would be possible to create a wallhack that would show everyone always.

If they did include MVDs those should be implemented serverside so the server would record them and host them for a limited duration. Like server records and link is displayed at match statistics for 24hrs.

Iirc, there is a special client mode in QL as well, where the client can get all the data from the server. It's for the steamers.. but this was in the early days of closed beta, and I'm not sure if they actually implemented it or not.

That's pretty obvious and not at all useful to them. Why should they behave exactly the way he did, even if they didn't know the video? And how should they prevent themselves from using the information they get with the WH if they actually want to benefit from the information?

Take the scene in wcp1 as an example. When he saw those 2 guys jumping down the stairs from main, he only had 2 possibilites:
a) don't show your wallhack by hesitating and getting killed
b) show your wallhack by reacting immediately and managing to escape

Oviously, he chose to do (b).

Those kind of scenes will occur pretty often if you wallhack. Sure, if you're clever, you'll choose (a) in most of the times, but sooner or later you'll choose (b) eventually and get caught.

I was running game servers since doom times, and read almost everything what's realted to games since the early BBS days. I'm sure there are many things I don't know, but perhaps I have a little clue.

A vid about an aimbot, where the crosshair snaps onto the NME - on a straight line with a constant speed, what a human would never be able to coordinate with hand - that vid would be a proof I could accept, but not this one, even if I also see that he is a cheater, its not a proof.
The problem with this video is; what if one day you ban someone who don't want to confess because he is innocent? An online jurisdiction system working without empirical evidences a little bit feels like medieval witch hunting to me.

I know many suspicious players in the EU-CTF scene, but since I don't have any proof, nor I ever wasted any time with specing or recording others.. so I won't call names out.

But if you look at it objectively, there are kids out there with 5, 6 different accounts, and more that 500 or even 1000 quits with each account! We are talking about egokids here who played more than 10k games all-together and who are still insecure and quit if their ego is in any danger.
Sadly these ppl are not playing for the fun (as we know it), but rather they need wins and hype from the others to stop the continuous contraction of their e-penis. Now if you accept that, you will see it easily why they need external "addons" to maintain their virtual existence.

I do not believe a single word of this so called confession. He found out he was going to get outted and came clean to limit the damage, the deceitful little twat, another one who couldn't accept being the player he was.

Instead he deceived the quake community, his teams and 'friends' in to thinking he was something he wasn't simply to fulfill some bizarre fantasy where he was accepted by the players around him for being good at a computer game, pathetic.

Don't wait for ID to make an anti-cheat program. They never will do.
Please get Wire for ESL and UAC3 or any other 3rd party anti-cheat program for clanbase and other leagues and cups.
These programs will take screenshots randomly while you are playing. After the match, they will be uploaded immediatly, so u can't modify them. This will eliminate all wallhacks at least.

Well, unless you turn off teamoverlay and use team triangles above enemy players instead of team mates..
I guess the only way you would notice then is if the whole team was visible on the screenshot + one more triangle behind a wall :)

Point being, nothing can eliminate all wallhacks and/or other cheats.

I didn't say action knew. The rule should be that if a team plays with a cheater, the team is disqualified and that's it. I'm pretty sure that's the rule in every other team-game tournament out there. Imagine the following scenario: a team decides to win thanks to one of them cheating. With your reasoning, if he doesn't get caught, they win, but if he does get caught, they get to play the tournament again anyway, all they have to do is say they didn't know. That's a bit too much of an impetus to cheat, don't you think? I'm not saying the team should be banned from future competitions if one can't establish that they knew, but their disqualification from the current competition is a no-brainer to me.

Had a feeling something was strange.. only heard about this guy few months ago and he was already at top level.

I never watched any of the CSI series but i guess they catch more than one bad guy per season on that show *hint* *hint* :)
I'm sure there are more out there.. i just wish the so called CSI QL team would look in other places as well not just at div1 CTF players/clans :/

I played with both programs, UAC3 and ESL Wire in different games. From my experience these programs don't cause any lags. It's not like they take screens all the time. Maybe 10 Screens in 20min. Modern computers can handle this easily nowadays. Wire (former Aequitas) is used with high acceptance in the cs community for years, even in gathers.
An Anti-Cheat System is necessary, due to the fact that ppl don't stick to the rules. Or do you know any popular sport which works without doping controls?

Old age does that to a person i guess.

According to yourself, this was a video I uploaded which evidently showed I was using a wallhack or something right? I'll justify this video for you too as I've got a bit of time on my hands just to clarify no wallhack was used.

For starters, I've watched l1nkin attack a lot in QL since I started a year ago. I also watched the quakecon finals and have also seen him move on this map in practice games. His escape route is pretty much the same as dravens, however unlike draven who goes straight across to mid to home RA/LG area, linkin switches in mid by going high left towards the 50hp bubble. One of the few moves I was aware of, so why would I RJ up to red armour when I already know how fast he is? I've managed to frag Derfel who has the quad so why not just pick it up and wait for him to come and hit him with something? (I chose SG cus it was random at the time). I already knew Bedege was at the top anyway. The only thing I personally found a bit strange about this myself was why I chose to take the other jump pad rather than the first one ahead of me.. but I kinda realised it was one of those moments, where everyone goes quiet on comms, you kinda forget about the game you're playing, waiting for one of your team mates to make that return."

I know i shouldn't have even replied but i just felt that people will read his drivel and not know either of us and possibly even believe him without knowing any better, so i felt i had to reply at least the once. As you can see its more drivel again and it'll go on forever.

How can i talk with someone who has no intention of telling the truth on anything? and is even dodging admitting the aimbot video still.

here's my take on the drama here with you jaz.

those wallhack videos with shownormals and similar crap are useless, you have to be pretty damn obvious to get caught by such a video, and i haven't seen that vid since it came out so i don't remember the potential wallhack situations and if they're any good or not. what i do remember is a certain situation on p1 courtyard where you had perfect mg tracking on enemy for quite some time, so that one's kinda obvious on what you did there. moving on to the post video irc drama...

after you got busted ischju pasted on irc a conversation of you admitting to him that you cheated and apologising for the shit you pulled your team in.

later we talked on privmsg on irc where you said you never said such things to ischju, so i was in a doubt over legitimacy of ischju's quote (but he's an self promoting overrated cunt anyway). during those quick 1-2 minutes of thinking about it i decided to not care at all anymore about your issue or anyone elses, which leads me to a conclusion...

if you cheated to gain some respect on internet then you're a sad cunt, on the other hand if you didn't cheat then tough luck. in any case, i still like you for some reason and dont care even if you're a cheating twat.

Regarding the convo with ischju etc. I actually think I remember something about this - apparently abso asked him if i was really cheating and ischju said something along the lines of me admitting it in the priv channel on irc that I was. However, I actually asked ischju about this and it turned out he misunderstood what I actually said. I did apologise to my team though, for putting them through that situation. Trust me, I was just as shocked when ischju claimed I said something I never did.

Now come on man :D. You should know me. I never played QL or any game infact to gain 'respect' from other players. I couldn't care less what players thought about me (which obviously shows with some of my arguements i've had with players). I've known a few top players suspected me for a while, and I knew they were watching me in spec thanks to wolfcam. All it ever did was just make me play even better and try to improve more. I played to have fun, and to win a few games which I did. Anyone who's played with me in CTF will know we've always had a laugh. I got to play with some sick players, and got to wind up quite a few nobheads so was s'all good. My conscience is clear.

Thanks again for the reply though, and another thanks for all you did for CTF when I used to play! You made it a good laugh for me, to read some of your drama alongside other things.

I don't really understand how you can complain about others in the first place.

If I would have charged for the hours I've spent looking at your demos of people who allegedly cheated in BiBS I would have had free pizza for like a year or two :P

q50 is a good guy -- before shitstorming him, how about you get your own act straight?

I don't approve of ath cheating at all, but at least he's not coming back and blaming others.

I'm sure you've played clean in most of your games (if not every game but that p1 game) -- however, the way you're acting makes it seem almost like you're trying to hide something, or at the very best it just makes you look stupid.

Another thing, it seems to me you're trying to say q50 is bad and a bunch of stuff, like how he was kicked out of LLL etc. I've never heard q50 brag about his skill level, ever (if he's done it, I'm sure it's for shits and giggles).

Anyways, we have played a lot together, one would think you could have just dropped by on IRC under a fake nick or something, saying you regret cheating and calling others cheaters and what not, but judging from what you are saying I don't exactly see any remorse from you.

Unlike you i'm not actually trying to be misleading. From what i can remember and to be as accurate as i can..... You didn't block specs during UK pracs because frankly it was my call anyway but for infused it was a very different setup and pressumably this is where the hacks were on anyway.

The irony of it all is that nobody was really paying attention and you drew the attention to yourself totally.

Statistically how many aimbotters don't wallhack btw?

However, forget cheats for a minute. I just don't want to get too involved replying to easily the nastiest peice of work i've come across in online gaming, ever. This isn't me overreacting but something i just totally believe having seen you come across so well when you choose to and then completely turn like so many know your capable of.

I'll only comment on stuff concerning you jaz, cause i dont have any clue whats up with you and q50 etc, and i dont really care.

But saying "i never cheated in a league" doesnt really matter, tbh its your own fault that ppl will never know and never will want to know that anymore. By cheating you destroyed your own repuration, and you willingly sacrificed that by doing so.

Thats the negative part, if you get busted, everything good you did before gets forgotten... and the only you can blame for that is yourself :/

oh and concerning that [DP] tag, i think he only used it because thats the clantag he gets referenced to atm, cause this was his active clan. That way ppl can relate him more easyly.

The cheaters really annoys me, i would rather have aim botters than wallhackers, because as an offencer, this is really annoying, even if you hide, switch positions, those cheaters can always see you :s

You told me on the server last time that you used a wh and it was for your mate, and after you told me, in fact that it was your mate playing and not you ....? ????

You are losing yourself in your ghosting words, and may be you need to leave forever, because you really show that you didn't deserved our trust, players like adam, apex, q50, bjq, or even sides. You played with us and now people are playing with you, but the big difference between you and me is that line : YOUR SKILLED NEEDED CHEAT and not me ...

I dont need a WH to escape quickely, to hide, i dont need an aimbot to do 3 or 4 impressives, but you do ...

So just stop chatting and go play COD4 again.
