quake too lag dependent IMO. I mean, look at your specs and then the the FPS.

are you using xsplit?

I tried both, but I had best results with FMLE

yeah xsplit is really bad for QL for some reason,I can stream css windowed with no lag on stream or fps lag yet in QL i sometimes get fps lag and the stream is always really laggy

Was talking to Trance in IRC about it. He said he could stream fullscreen in QL and CS1.6. CS was fine but QL had fps issues. Dunno. Worth trying...

Its because that OpenGL stuff. streaming applications dont support it properly, thats why the framdrop-problem. sadly :(

Im trying to figure out the right bitrate, so the stream runs abit smoother, but Ill do that later.
50mbit upload should be enought I believe, but takes time to find the right value that gives the most stable stream

Yes it's possible now with an addon in XSplit called Gamesource. But your fps will suffer. I can play and stream in fullscreen 720p and i get drops up to 100-90 fps. And this is with a pretty beastly system. So it still needs some optimization to avoid fps drops that big.

The basics are i7 2600k OC'ed to 4.5 Ghz, 8GB 2133 mhz ram, AMD 6990, Vertex 2 SSD. Most important thing for streaming is the CPU tho, where Intel i7's are king. AMD's not so much.

Yeah, Intel crushed AMD when it comes to streaming and handling programs that needs large amount of resourses. Plus Intel cpu's has Hyper Threading which AMD does not.

In my case, I wanna make quakelive more popular. Its easier to just click on a link to check out a game then take the time to install it and so on. Plus, in my experience, its verry addictive. Im watching a sc2 stream everyday, much more entertaining then TV imo =)

Great initiative! I am doing a similar thing for quakeworld.

I have to re-process the fraps through xvid though and then upload to youtube. I get more FPS that way while doing the live commentary, but its obviously more effort than just doing livestream. I remember trying justin.tv with quake 3 and it was virtually unplayable, even though I have a pretty fast rig... Any pointers? What software are you using to capture? Can you uncap fps during capture?

Edit: I see the part about FMLE now, going to try that...

At this time im using xsplit because its more grafic card demanding compared to the FMLE which is CPU demanding. If you have a good Intel CPU I would recommend FMLE. I use a AMD chip so the heaviest duty on my rig is on the GFX-card while streaming, thats why I switched program.

Can you point me to a time on your livestream recording where you are actually playing quakelive? I want to see what it looks like, but I can't see anything but you browsing teamliquid and watching youtubes

Yes, ill stream in a bit. The video files from justin.tv dont appear on the twitch site. As you probebly know justin.tv was bought by twitch or something like that. 15 minutes from now I'll stream

Before twitch came to the party there were plenty of videos in the library, but theyr all gone. a kind of a good thing imo, there were alot of drunk casting vod's and such ;P

Are you sure you didn't just forget to set the video history to "remember forever" ? By default, justin.tv would delete your automatically recorded videos after 7 days, unless you interfered manually.

That's what I did with my justin.tv recordings and they're still there, except now on twitch.tv :)

BTW, I saw your quakelive streaming, and the quality is very good. I'm going to experiment with it and see if I can get it working myself as well. Xsplit + gamesource seems promising, and if I can get that working at a good fps and 720p, then it will be easier and better quality than what I'm doing right now with youtube :D

I can stream at 720p but then the stream isnt that fluid (like its was 15fps) I rather look at a smooth stream will less quality then a qwarky one with great quality. Im going to buy a new CPU but Im gonna wait untill Intel release theyr LGA2011.

btw can you post here if you have any luck with the gamesource thing?

it's been quite popular in the sc world and in my opinion it's a great idea to help newer players.

One reason for me to stream live games is 1) to promote the game and specifically 2) to explain to new players what goes on in your head when you're playing the game.

(2) is important because the main obstacle a new player has to enjoying the game is the steep learning curve, and just getting lost. Some people will take the time and trouble to download a replay, watch a replay, write down notes, build orders (or item timings in quake case) etc, but its even easier if you can just watch a live stream and learn that way because its being explained verbally to you.

And of course 3) hopefully its entertaining!

You can do it but you need a pretty sick setup sadly. I'd think only a small portion of quakers have great PC's.

I hope the sandy bridge lga2011 will do the trick this december/january.

..and people say quakelive is bad for sponsors as it cannot drive hardware purchases..
